Wish these had been around last cycle. Thanks for doing these, Dean Z!! These videos will certainly help make law school admissions more equitable and accessible.
Whether (or not) I'm too old to go to law school and irregardless of how happy I am that someone close to me chose Michigan, I found this enlightening and entertaining.
This is the exact topic about which I had questions. The answers are very honest and much appreciated. I had a technical issue with the January LSAT and now my earliest will be taken in March. All signs point to applying ASAP for 2023, when admission potential is flush again. Darn, but it makes sense. The short writing lessons at the end of these videos are great.
I've been binging these videos for a while to prepare my application to Michigan. I love how frequently you mention cutting down word usage- even to such small degrees. One of my favorite writing quotes came from one of my favorite authors, Stephen King, in his book "On Writing: A Memoire of the Craft". He stated (of written words), "Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings." Fun fact: I edited my first book down from ~120,000 words to ~63,000 words. That was quite difficult- emotionally speaking.
@@umichlaw I love it too! His writing was never the same after he was hit by that car in 1999. Pre-2000 King is a different writer to me. Did you know he wrote that book in the hospital to teach himself to write again because he just couldn't write anymore immediately after the accident? He also bought the van that hit him so no one else could buy it. Oh, the fun facts about him I could share! I'm quite glad to see another enthusiast of that book outside of a writer's conference 😃😃😃
Thank you for doing these videos, Dean Z! I plan on applying in the next cycle, and I find your videos to be extremely insightful. I look forward to your next video!
What happens if more than usual amount of people accept the admittance? Would Law schools just eat it and bring that ammount? Could a class of 50p be feasible or would they have to re-deny people?
I wish I would have known about rolling applications when I applied. Applying by the deadline and not earlier also excluded be from entrance scholarships
do law school keep track who has applied during previous years?? I am a rising Senior at Berkeley and M Law is a dream school for me. but if I don't get in for fall 2021 I will apply again next cycle. does that look bad?
We *do* keep track, but it is definitely not a negative to apply more than once. This is such a good Q that I’m going to address it in an episode soon-thanks for the inspiration! Also: Think positive! J
If the first offers will be out in nov, is oct lsat too late? If I were to apply with oct. score in October, will my application be considered with other applications submitted in Sept ~ Oct?
Definitely not! the fall LSAT sittings are traditionally the most popular with applicants. It’s not even too late for our early decision applicants, let alone those who are applying for regular decision.
@@umichlawthank you, this is my situation. I took the LSAT in august and got a 166, which is the bottom of my practice test range, and so I’m waiting to retake in October. Some told me I should apply with my 166 and update my file with the new score, but I don’t want to risk my file being reviewed with the 166.
I'm an outsider but I'm absolutely captivated by these videos.

YES! I love that book. Same idea is Annie Lamott in Bird by Bird, telling us: “Murder your little darlings."
