Maki Namekawa plays Closing from MISHIMA

- In September 2018 Maki Namekawa published her solo piano version of Philip Glass' soundtrack to the Paul Schrader movie "MISHIMA - A Life In Four Chapters".
To date her track "MISHIMA Closing" has been streamed well over a million times on Apple Music.
Namekawa stated,
"We did the filming shortly before the new year. It was early in the morning, lonely, foggy, and I felt the frost like little knife marks on my skin. What motivated MISHIMA to commit suicide and could he find peace?“

This is an ecstatic rendition. Namekawa-sensei evokes sadness and joy simultaneously, like pain and then one's soul being untethered.
I love how soft this version is. Almost like a cuddle of music around my ears
"Mishima" is by far the best work of Paul Schrader's "Four Lonely Men" saga (also including Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and First Reformed.) But it's also important to note the excellence in production by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas. They all made magic with this film.
I just love this performance so much. It's amazing that I can love this as much as I do the Kronos Quartet and Brooklyn Rider versions. They all interpret this piece with their own unique style that I could listen to all 3 in a row without getting fatigued.
