Matt, you don't have to go into a movie just to buy movie theater popcorn. you don't even need a ticket, just walk in and buy some. Let that sink in for a minute. just stop by the theater, buy a large popcorn and take it home for your snacking pleasure!

Depends on the theater and sometimes the day. Like, Friday nights places might be a bit more strict on where you show your ticket because they don't want people (primarily teenagers) hanging out in the lobby waiting for the ticket taker to look away.

good business model since theaters main profit is from concessions. where i'm at the ticket counter's the first thing you hit. too afraid someone might snag an empty seat if they let them in just to go buy popcorn. even if they're making 10x more from the popcorn than the ticket.

Who remembers Jiffy Pop?! We would get that some of the time, but it was definitely more expensive than just popping your corn in a pot. THEN we got a popcorn popper! It was a heated plate (like a hot plate) that had a huge plastic (see-through yellow, of course). You would put the popcorn kernels and oil on the plate and put the lid on and turn it on. Once they were through popping, you turned it upside down, took off the plate and added any butter you melted separately.

A synopsis about Orville. Born & educated in Indiana, he was a food scientist who specialized in hybrids. He focused on popcorn and chose one he named RedBow. He stared his own company in 1970 and starred in his commercials. Six years later he sold the company to Hunt-Wesson and it was eventually acquired by giant food producer Con Agra. His popcorn, in my option, is the best on the market.

The more delicate popcorn like Jolly Time usually are a white kernel type, which is smaller, pops into a delicate snowflake and the kernels are much less hard and don't get stuck in the teeth as much.
The robust firm popcorn is a yellow corn type. They are bigger, they pop bigger, they have a lot more to them. They tend to pop into the "perfect" popcorn shape that is easy to eat, round, doesn't get busted up so easily so can handle the commercial tough use.
Kernel type makes as much difference as flavorings. :)

The name "Act II" for the popcorn brand originates from its predecessor, "Act I." In 1981, Golden Valley Microwave Foods introduced Act I, a microwave popcorn product that required refrigeration due to its real butter content. Building upon this, in 1984, they developed a shelf-stable version that didn't need refrigeration and named it Act II, signifying the next stage or "act" in their product development.

13:09 history lesson with an engineering student time. A bunch of high end microwaves started to come with a moisture sensor inside them and to advertise this feature they started to include a popcorn buttton as it would use the sensor to detect when it was perfectly popped and stop the machine. So than cheaper brands started to include a "popcorn button" but since they didn't have a moisture sensor they would just cook it for a set time that was the average time the popcorn companies recommend. So the button can do something, just not every model has the ability to cook popcorn properly.

Here you go Matt, the story of act I and act II popcorn. Act II is an American brand of microwave popcorn that is ostensibly based on the look and taste of movie theater popcorn. It is currently made and distributed by Conagra Brands. Act II was preceded in the popcorn market by Act I (popcorn in theaters), an early microwave popcorn that had to be stored in the refrigerator due to its real butter content. Act I was introduced in 1981. In 1984, Act II, a shelf stable microwave popcorn was released, becoming the first mass-marketed microwave popcorn.

Great video. Store brands seem to be just as good or better anymore. I used to work as a truck driver in the food service industry. One of my occasional backhauls was microwave popcorn. Picked up out of big factory in Missouri. All kinds were made in that place, been 20 years so can't remember the name of the place anymore. But row after row lined up of different brands, both name and store, on that abysmally hot loading dock. I'd run my reefer units so when they opened the doors a blast of cold air would roll through the dock. They usually got me out of there faster due to the courtesy. But i digress. On their manufacturing line, their test lab would randomly select lots off the line to test. After testing, these lots (cases in which only a couple packs ere pulled out to test of each case) were stacked on pallets. And employees and others were free to take a case or just some packs, up to them. There was a brand that was either bound for Mexico that I was given. There was so much butter in it the microwave pack was stained with it and the package was squishy, like it was filled with playdough. Pretty sure my arteries clogged up a bit just holding it... But it was amazing. I am not a popcorn person. But that popcorn was, and to this day, the best I've ever had..

@@debgordon6542 actually made me lol. As why its so funny is the refrigeration units on the trailer had it somewhere between 0 and -20 depending on how far i travelled to get there. So when the trailer door was opened a bunch of them would gather around. Accompanying that blast of cold air was a wave of fog from the temperature difference, looking very much like a truckload had been smoked. Those guys on the docks there in the summer had it a bit rough. So hot they had stations every couple of docks with a few water coolers, along with dispensers for some sort of gatorade stuff to add to the water, as well as boxes of salt pills.

When I was in High School my science teacher explained to us the reason OR is so good is because of where the popcorn is grown. It grows (or used to be) on the farms around Valparaiso Indiana. Valpo is just the right distance from lake Michigan that the growing season is extended so the corn can fully grow and dry out before being harvested.

The theater doesn't actually make money on ticket sales. They pay basically 100% of that to the studios that produce the films. All of the rest of their operating costs, as well as whatever profit they can squeeze out, come from concessions. That is why their stuff costs 6 times as much as what seems reasonable. They charge that much because they have to, to pay their staff and the bills.

I don't like all of the butter, double butter, dripping with butter, Oddles of butter, and "eating sticks of butter". The Homestyle has a great taste and you guessed it, without all the butter. I have been known to add "real" melted butter on my Homestyle, but typically, its just good by itself.

Subscribing and ringing that bell might seem small, trivial even, but every now and then a choice can echo longer than you'd expect. Sometimes you make choices that'll shift the winds of fate, said a man on a path he didn't know he needed.
