The funny thing was that was Kurt, his father and Season were all playing characters that they were in real life. Father, son and wife played father son and wife
2 movies I really love - because they captured the spirit and soul of Elvis so very well (in my opinion) - are "Touched By Love" & "Finding Graceland". Whats your opinions on these?
It's been a while since I've seen those, but I do remember really enjoying them! That's an aspect John and I haven't looked into much, so we'll have to do that!
I have always felt that Kurt Russell is responsible for 90% of all the broadest Elvis impersonations. To this day I still will still say "9 years Cilla...9 years since I been away from the people...reachin at me, grabbin at me, touchin me"
I really enjoyed Elvis and Nixon with Michael Shannon..it got pretty good reviews too. It was pretty accurate too if you watch the Whitehorse archival talk with Krough and jerry schilling of what happened
It is pretty accurate, yeah - especially when compared to the first version from the 90s. I still think there's a definitive version yet to be made, but it was nice to see Elvis handled with some intelligence in that film!
As a little kid I grew up watching the Michael st. Gerard Elvis because every year on his birthday they wouldn't have marathons on TNT. It looks a lot like Elvis and I loved it. My only nitpick is The voice. Sounds like he's from Boston. I would have liked for him to at least try a Southern accent. But beyond that it is pretty close to perfection and wish it would have ran a little longer.
Agreed! Honestly, Michael St. Gerard's acting was the only Elvis portrayal I was ok with for a loooong time, so I definitely get that! And I think they were taking their time too much; if the pace moved a bit faster, I think it would have lasted longer. But I really enjoyed what we got!
RE: Your suspicion that the casting call for the "Elvis" mini-series was just a big publicity stunt... I agree 100%. Remember a few years back when the Bond producers were on Entertainment Tonight? They supposedly had an open casting call, looking for a new signature henchman along the lines of Jaws or Oddjob. This was for Spectre. Whoops, a couple months later Dave Bautista was signed. Hmm... were they really interested in looking at all the Joe Sixpacks from the midwest, or did they have a big name like Bautista in mind all along? And okay, maybe the producers had nothing to do with the stunt... maybe it was the studio's publicity department. But ya, open casting call for anyone to be the new Bond henchman, anyone as the new Elvis? Pretty much a gimmick.
@@EAPSociety Yup, I’m here in L.A. A friend of mine once replied to an ad in the trades. It was some fun/interesting job at a production company. Not an acting role - but a cool gig. He went to interview - it was a cattle call, like over 100 people. The interviews were taped. Afterwards it was revealed there was no job at all, this production company was doing a “Candid Camera” type show. The interviews were only fodder for the program. People weren't too happy once they found out. But ya, stuff like this happens.
Very cool, Jackie - and all our love to you over in England, too! Interestingly enough, we have a 35mm movie print of Kurt's portrayal among our collection. 😁
I had the exact same reaction to Jonathan Rhys Myers. Kurt Russell was the best for me and the story was more accurate than the recent biopic. Michael St Gerrard was good the TV series was quality I never totally bought him as Elvis because he looked a bit vacant behind the eyes..Worst was Don Johnson, Dale Midriff and Harvey Keitel ..Harvey didn't make any effort to act like Elvis. There's a great scene in Elvis and The Beauty Queen where the Don as Elvis has a breakdown as he's singing Silent Night. I've never laughed so much in my life. Hilarious 😂😂😂
Hi, Paul! Definitely agreed for the most part - I do enjoy the new one for how it showcases Elvis himself, but yeah.. the Kurt Russel one is still more accurate. Maybe someday, John and I will get to make the series that's been slowly taking shape in our heads since the JRM debacle! 🤣
Watched a little bit of Elvis and me…he is portrayed with a very mean streak ..especially in the eyes . Something very mean in this characterization… and no feeling of endearment. I couldn’t connect with this portrayal. I read there’s a new movie being made from Elvis and Me. Hopefully it’s not like this.
Yeah, we weren't crazy about that movie either. Hopefully the new one will be good, though what pictures I've seen so far doesn't grab me (John said the same, too). Here's hoping, though!
Remember the movie Heartbreak Hotel with David Keith? Lol
Lol, I do! Not a great Elvis performance, but a cute little movie, if I remember correctly. 😁

That's right! Wild stuff, for sure.

Yeah, it's crazy how often that happens.

Awww cut Don some slack lll
This was amazing , I had only seen the Kurt Russell film and thought he was good. The last few on this video were pathertic. Poor Elvis.😢
Hi, Pat! Yeah, Elvis has gotten the short end of the stick far too often in the biopics. Hopefully, the bar is now higher for future productions!
What about Pink Cadillac ?
Maybe for a Part 2? :)

There are pics of him wearing stage vests and outfits off stage. Rare but it has happened.
