I played Nintendogs+Cats recently, and I was honestly having the time of my life. The game deserves so much more than what it got, and it’s failure is not it’s fault, but the fault of everything around it and the time it released. Such a fun game with such a sad fate.
Been playing 3ds Dogs+Cats very casually every other day. They really did a good job giving you that sense of attachment. Never had I gone "YES!" for a pet simulator until I snatched that 1st place in a lure competition and felt like rewarding my chihuahua with play time.
The dormant titan is a fantastic way to describe Nintendogs

I will never forget the hours that I spended playing nintendogs+cats and nintendogs and I will never forget how much fun nintendogs+cats and nintendogs was to me and how special the experience was . Although most of the use was that annoying little microphone.
Nintendogs was the very reason to get a DS for me, I fell in love with the game after my friend borrowed me theirs! I played and grinded so much on their game save until I got my own game and console haha. I loved how innovative and realistic the sim felt. Also the grindy aspect of the game: different accessories (some even version exclusives), contests, trainer points, teaching tricks, the walking mechanics.. Bark Mode was great too, I remember using it and Pictochat during sleepovers. All that while having pretty realistically behaving and moving virtual puppy models.
Nintendogs+cats gave me the same motivation with the 3DS (along with upcoming Pokémon titles). I was really happy to pick it up as my first 3DS game. The graphical upgrade grew on me over time - and looking back at them now, the models aged well compared to their predecessor.
I didn’t grind and play it as much as the OG Nintendogs but it might be due to me growing older and the hype around the genre going away. During the Nintendogs era I knew so many people who played and met through Bark Mode. Can’t say the same for Nintendogs + cats unfortunately.
While I understand the direction they went with the 3DS sequel (now at an older age), I didn’t like some of the changes when I picked it up first x years ago. I miss Agility, it was my favorite contest. Wasn’t too thrilled about the recycle mechanic either and the reduced capacity from 8 to 6 pets you can own. The amount of accessories felt also watered down. I’m not too fond of the new walk mechanic either. I miss drawing paths, knowing what guaranteed present I’d get, vs. random spawns.
Recently I picked it up again though (I wanna get my RoboPup) and enjoy it casually overall. Thus me stumbling on this video :) Good job!

I know that a lot of people share a deep connection with this game and it shows in the way a lot of us remember it. Just the definition of "simpler times" to me.

While Nintendogs on the Switch doesn't quite work out, one thing I should've mentioned in the video is that the franchise is now totally at home in mobile devices. Let's hope that someday Nintendo gives us a well deserved return of Nintendogs!

Great video! I am currently playing the 3DS game and having the time of my live. Despite loving the originals, I skipped the sequels when I bought my 3DS back in the day. I truly miss these types of games. Low thrills, just distilled fun and joy.

I really liked playing Nintendogs for the 3DS one of my top 3 most played games probably 2nd bested only by animal crossing new leaf (I think I might be a furry). Sadly I lost the game and I couldn’t find it since I lost it.

my only issue is i would be hesitant to call every pet simulator after Nintendogs a cheap rip-off, especially Ubisoft's Petz series. i will agree they were *very* over saturated, however i grew up playing many of them along with Nintendogs and i can attest to how incredibly unique they were from the pet sim titan. The Petz series actually predates the Nintendo DS all the way back to 1995, it is a computer software where you could breed and take care of cats and dogs. It has one of the most robust genetics system i've ever seen in a game and still has a very active community to this day.
i played way too many Ubisoft DS games, and while there were definitely some I could tell were moneygrabs, there are many that hold a very deep spot in my heart for how much fun they were. honestly, each game with the dogz and catz title is wildly different from the last. they didn't do fantastic in sales, but in my opinion, it is likely because they were marketed towards young girls. many of them have very good reviews, however, scoring up there with Nintendogs on IGN.

Doesn't some nintendo switch games let you use mics wth headsets? Maybe I am mistaken though, besides the mic functionality would be inconvenient... even if buying another device would resolve that. :/
The Switch supports headsets with mics, but there are still problems like what to do if your console is docked. Bluetooth audio wasn’t supported until recently after all…
The Switch is a weird console in the end.

Here's what I think is the better way of reviving the Nintendogs ID, which is in the form of a free-to-play mobile game from Nintendo, much like Miitomo and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, with in-game awards from when you connect the game with your Nintendo account, daily activities you do and perhaps micro-transactions, which is most likely what will happen, which can be a problem.
I bought all 6 Nintendogs for the DS out of bittersweet nostalgia. Nintendogs got me though a lot of childhood trauma so I felt like I needed them…

Really good video, good script and edition but i'd recomend making a more energetic tone because the tone can feel robotic and boring. But you are entretaining, good job!
