Once again, Robbie's PickOfTheWeek gets added to the pull list for heading out to the comic boot store. As to whether art or story is more important, they are tied for me after reading comics for sixty years or so at this point. Comics is a medium that is a great synergy of these two endeavors. A great comic with great art and a great story are those that are remembered. Thanks, Robbie, for another outstanding Weekly Comic Book Review episode.
Long time comic reader, but I’ve only ever really read omnibi or trade paperbacks. Buuut, I’m finally making the leap to reading comics issue to issue - and I love this channel! So insanely helpful!
Time Waits is worth the price. Zdarsky’s range impresses me. The art in Time Waits is striking with colors. The battle scenes and trauma backlashes play well in details of the stories. I liked this issue a lot. There’s something special about the kid named Duke.
Yup, I’m one of the dozens of old Deathlok fans who read it in the 70s. I just picked this one up and loved it! Thanks for mentioning that it was out this week. I don’t usually grab singles anymore but got this one because there’s really no likelihood of a new Deathlok series (but the ending here at least suggests that we’ll see him again in other stories - and I’ll gladly take that).
For me, I'll pick up damn near anything DWJ is involved with (be it as writer, artist, or both). The guy is such an exceptional talent. He's doing a signing for "Moon" in Maryland in about 2 weeks, and despite having transportation issues I'm gonna do my best to go and get a pic with the guy.
Your complaint on forcing tie ins on books that are telling their own stories, was my issue with the current run of the Flash issue 8. It made no sense, and this is a book that I was already struggling to make sense of.
I’m with R.R.! Dark Knights of Steel has boosted immensely! I loved the first 1-12, but All Winter is truly next level. And please, don’t skip Heir To The Sea. Don’t treat it like a ok back-up story. Taylor and Federici kill it. The art is incredible!! On the new front, I grabbed Huge Detective 1 and 2. Nice fresh story and ideas for crime
Epitaphs From the Abyss 3 has a really creepy cover by Lee Bermejo (I have a thing for dark basements in my horror), so it’s a cover buy for me, but yeah, the quality on that book is not there. Besides the old Warren magazines (Creepy, Eerie), one comic I remember that was a fine succcessor to the quality of EC was Twisted Tales from Pacific/Eclipse in the 80s. Well-written by the legendary Bruce Jones (who did work for Warren), the book had art by stalwarts like Richard Corben and Tim Conrad. That is what these new ECs should aspire to be.
Did you drop babs after 1 issue? Is this only part one there was Wolverine deep cuts Batman the long Halloween 0 I was hoping to hear on some of those also and Deadpool 6.
Art is more important in comics because art can also show the story in addition to being appealing to the eye. You always want to show, and not tell in comics.
I disagree. A comic is more enjoyable if it's okay art but with incredible storytelling than great art and terrible writing. The story is what keeps you coming back issue after issue
You say over and over you aren't influenced by someone whose your friend whose done work on a comic but over and over you spend 3 times the amount of time talking about the book, you try to oversell it to all the viewers, and at least twice now you've been like "i almost gave you cover of the week". We get it, you wanna sell your friends stuff.

Everyone should already be on DWJ watch he’s the best in the industry right now

Here's hoping you make it and have a fantastic time.

Dude monster looks so sick. Definitely will be picking up the pick of the week as well
Always appreciate your honest reviews.
Thanks for the heads up on Bats/Super 31. I would've wasted 6 bucks on the 251 homage cover. Awesome show as always
Great reviews Robbie. Maybe I missed it but did you read the graveyard club by RL Stein
Buying first three comics
Great Vid! but no Ultramega??
Voted for you and Nick Comic Culture 😎
Another great week, Robbie!
Just voted for all of you badass homies, station!!

Great reviews. I’m thinking about dropping Avengers also.

What does k fabe mean? Violator is my pick of the week. I read comics for tough guys.
The only comics I buy are the smell of the week 😎

I wasn't aware Hyperion was in the latest Avengers. I was about to go out and buy it until you said it's not very good. Saved myself a few bucks.
"Going after an audience that's NOT reading these books"
Pretty sure that's been years now, Robby, not just lately.
How would you compare The moon is following us to Sea of Stars?
Ultramega didn't come in?
The Dinesh era of Valiant was SO GOOD. All attempts to recapture that quality since then have sucked
I love the monsters book but I hate that keen spot black boarder on top of the gorgeous covers
can you do an april fools day outro where you say TURTLE POWER!?
👍
Games were good since Frostpunk 2 Utopia mode.
Comment for algorithm.
I think you were a bit off saying there are 80 Deathlok fans it’s gotta be less then 30
Stacked is for sure but still a skip week for me.
U dropped X-Men and Hulk?

The problem is Tom King is writing a book for DC. They need to move him on.
There is some breaking news that Grant Morrison is hinting at collaberating on an Ice Cream Man story with W. Maxwell Prince. Stay Tuned!
When are you going to review GI Joe Real American hero? Second month you did not. Hama is an awesome writer and the art is great.
1st!!
