I'm surprised the Letterman channel didn't post any videos over the weekend. I guess we needed time to appreciate early Bill Maher. I appreciated him Friday evening. Fun fact: "Real Time" emanates from Studio 33 (The Bob Barker Studio) at CBS Television City, the same studio that was home to (among tons of others) "The Carol Burnett Show," "Match Game," the Bob Eubanks/Bill Rafferty era of "Card Sharks," the Tom Bergeron era of "Hollywood Squares," and of course, is still home, for 50 years running, to "The Price is Right!"
One hour later, a video goes up. I wonder if there'll be more than two to make up for the weekend drought. Also, to clarify, I was showing deference to Bill. I generally have not been a fan of his since the George W. Bush years, but sometimes, he'll say something I agree with.
Most young people seem pretty f'ed up these days having no identity, or identifying as a refrigerator. There are some exceptions, but fewer than other decades when people got things done and people weren't afraid of words and ideas on campuses etc..
I know this is early on in his career, and comedy as it is today, wasnt as popular for people to enjoy, but the crowd did not seem into him, and I do love him today, Im not a hater..
@@alamandrax I guess the difference with his "Real Time" monologue is, if he still does it, I don't hear it. It's not the gesture that was so annoying, it was the sound, so I guess on his show, he's micd differently so it's not picked up.

He said not handsome,nor are many if any other comedians of that time.
Compared to now, where a person doesn't have to be either handsome or funny to be successful at stand up comedy.

His current habit of licking his pursed lips to emphasize a point he's made is distracting too.

Wow. Some of the lamest stand up I have ever seen. Maher's jokes and delivery have come a LONG way since then.
