I just subscribed because I need to do the same type of cleanup in my 3 storage units. I hope to find some inspiration.

Well not a very exciting topic, but I have to do it, so why not document it? I am also trying to improve my TH-cam skills.

So sad… but we can’t take it with us when we die, someone will use it maybe when we’re gone. Everyone needs to down size on stuff. Before someone else has to go through our stuff…. Sell it or junk it.

I had a 10x20 storage unit I tackled 2 weeks ago. I didn't make a great deal of headway, but I did downsize to a 10x10. I had so much stuff that was just scattered and tossed in boxes. I disposed of all of my father's old medical books so that freed up some space. I took some things and donated them. I had too many shelving units for what I had. I donated some bookcases and shelves. Anyway, I halved my monthly storage fee. I have many paintings and family portraits that I just can't do much with. The wife doesn't want them in the house.
What do you do with guitars? I have 2 Gibson acoustics and an Ibanez electric I need to let go of. I never learned to play worth a darn. I don't want to just give them away. They are nice but I think the wife will just throw them away when I go.

Sounds just like me. My 10 X 30 is costing me $765 a month here in California. I would like to half that size.

Good for you. For me it is overwelming but liberating.

Americans have TOO much useless stuff. Renting a storage unit is a waste of money. If the stuff does not fit in your home (closet/basement storage room/shed) --- and you have not used the stuff in 2+ years --- then you do not need it. "Hoarders" is one of favorite shows on TV. A club I do not want to join....

So true, and all these storage sites are always just about full. In my case I sold my home and downsized to a small apartment AND I was priced out of my small shop. Indeed, $760 a month for this unit is a waste of money - thus my quest to get rid of it.
