I’m surprised you didn’t comment on Gabriella running away in this movie. My issue is why does she run away every single movie! And Troy always try to win her back lol. I think we were made to think Sharpay was the villain but really she used what she had to try to get what she want, your comment about her made me really sympathize with her character more. I enjoyed this video completely. But, I honestly feel like this video was way too harsh on Troy's friends. I just always saw it this way. Troy only got top billing at the job because he's the Team Captain of the Wildcats and Sharpay had a major crush on him. He didn't really get the chance to really work like his friends do and put in the actual effort to get that promotion in the first place and even he knows it. Scholarships do mean everything, but, throwing away your friends can really make you wind up alone even when they all go into different directions in the future. Heck, friendships can last even longer than high school as well. Troy's Dad's advice about Troy not being a Wildcat forever and going his own separate way does make a whole lot of sense. But, Troy talking about how he got his friends those jobs only to be treated higher than them for no reason isn't fair either. In fact, I feel like in the third movie Troy does fully listen to his Dad's advice when he chooses a different college compared to Chad. In the second one, he just doesn't want to push his friends away and wound up all alone. Also, his friends do want to get jobs, but, they feel like Troy gave them a very high maintenance job to do which is why they complain. I even feel like they work very well off screen too with their jobs and employees who don't want to do the talent show can do their waiting jobs during the show. The rest I do completely agree with, though. Lol
Thank you for commenting! I still stand by my points and maybe I just have a different outlook on priorities especially when you're that age. I think they could have better portrayed a scenario where troy was actually rude to his friends - maybe talking down to them or insinuating that he is above them to actually justify the character ark the writer tried to execute. But I think my biggest issue is that Troy never actually did anything wrong besides that one interaction with chad about ... cheese. His friends put waaay too many expectations onto troy and picked and chose when to want his attention and when to not. Since before the supposed "change of character" Troy was explicit about NOT singing. He just never wanted to do it. but during the baseball game his friends act like him not wanting to be in the show was new? Troy WAS handed the opportunities because of sharpay but personally I just don't think that alone is relevant enough to justify their bitterness. I think it would have been better to show that if maybe both Troy and Chad applied for the same position but they gave it to troy in a fixed decision by sharpay. If they were going to paint Troy as some self absorbed jerk, they shouldn't have put his character in so many instances where he was simply misunderstood or messed up.

I find really jarring how no one called out Troy for not denying Sharpay's clearly romantic advances. That would've made a better conflict for the movie, but no, the movie went into the way of the Wildcats being jealous of Troy achieving things for his future and Gabriella being extremely passive at the situation of having a girl that clearly dislikes her trying to buy her boyfriend's affection. Gabriella only got mad at Troy because of him missing their precious activities and "turning into someone else". Like, girl, the actual problem is much bigger than that! It's not like he's just randomly changing because he's doing the oh so unforgivable action of seeking for a good future during vacation, no, Troy is such a goody-two-shoes that can't say "no" and accepted every attempt of seduction from Sharpay, is he really that dense or is it that Sharpay's feelings weren't obvious enough? I get that Troy and Sharpay are friends and that he probably didn't want to hurt her feelings, but there's just something inherently wrong about not setting limits with a friend while you're in a relationship. Troy didn't do anything wrong by caring about his future, he did wrong by basically mentally cheating on Gabriella.
Thank you for your thoughts! I have a different opinion because Troy isn't Sharpay's friend or remotely interested in Sharpay. Anything that involved her he tried to avoid but was pressured into or told "you work here so you need to follow me" *followed by something that is really set up by sharpay*. He definitely did take advantage of the things sharpay was giving him and my biggest argument is that doesn't make him a bad or "changed" person. His biggest obstacle was "I really really have zero interest in sharpay but I feel pressured to appease her because I feel like it will affect my future". The ONLY thing that was sus from an outside perspective was the "private golf session". To your point, the movie did not address it at all and focused way too much on the wildcats. I agree with you though that there was a lack of conflict. Troy and Sharpay's relationship COULD have been perceived from an outside perspective as what you're saying it is, and it would have made it more interesting if his friends or gabriella accused him of having a relationship with her. It would have been great to see him get the opportunity to explain to gabriella that he's just going along with what sharpay wants to do for the scholarship but Gabriella doesn't feel comfortable with it - which THEN leads to the breakup. Not "omg! Not the talent show! anything but that!" The conflict should have been centered around that instead of what? Chad being jealous? Troy being unavailable? the TALENT SHOW? lmao The plot definitely could have been more interesting for sure!
@@sassygrilledcheese Thanks for replying to my comment and nice interpretation you have! It makes perfect sense that Troy felt pressured to please Sharpay because of how her advances could positively impact his future, but he should've really set boundaries at the private golf session. He made it evident that he was uncomfortable at the idea of singing a duet with Sharpay, not like he would cheat on Gabriella in the process, but seeing how personal it was to him, Troy should've said "no" there, especially given how everything Sharpay was doing had romantic intentions behind. Even if Troy and Sharpay aren't exactly friends, he knows her enough to notice she had ulterior motives all along (especially given how obvious Sharpay's attraction is). That's why I think the conflict I proposed would've been much better: We would've had a conflicted Troy tempted between choosing what's best for his future but accepting Sharpay's advances in the process, making him feel guilty for technically cheating on Gabriella and have his friends perceive him as a player. I think it's evident that Troy thought Sharpay was going too far during the entirety of her version of You Are the Music in Me (further noticeable by the way he squinted at the fantasy of Sharpay smiling at him in a wedding gown), upon that realization, Troy should've confronted Sharpay about her flirting with him the entirety of the summer to the point of his breakup with Gabriella and ultimately reject performing with her at the Star Dazzle Awards because he's disgusted at her intentions rather than "My friends don't like I'm not by their side 24/7, I gotta look for them 'cause I'm a people pleaser". But no, the movie didn't elaborate on that. I still think that Gabriella should've confronted Troy about how close he was getting to Sharpay, because no matter how good her interventions were for his future, he was letting Sharpay in easily while barely thinking it twice.
That isn't a bad lesson though? Sure it's worded poorly but the lesson that you professional life should not come at the expense of your personal life is a really really important lesson that most adults haven't finished learning. You could make 10 million dollars a year and be miserable and devoid of deep connections in your life, or make 60k a year and have a happy and fulfilling life, One is clearly preferable to the other and If you can't see which one then maybe this is a lesson you still need to learn
I get what your saying but If that was the goal of the lesson then it should have been portrayed differently in my opinion. Also his friends were considerably ungrateful and picky/choosy with when to set expectations for Troy, so I think that's why the lesson falls flat for me. On a side note I'll take my chances with the 10 million dollars a year 😂

Troy being unavailable? the TALENT SHOW? lmao
The plot definitely could have been more interesting for sure!
Id love to do a movie recap with you. You seem so fun and i constantly watch your reviews. I love them. Keep doing them
Does this mean you’ll be covering the best and my favorite in the franchise HSM3????
I plan to at some point! I've never seen it.
It was me, I was one of those and I'll answer to my sins later 😂😂 no don't keep us in the dark, grill the cheese and tell us now 😂!
Amazing video as usual, but I still believe that HSM2 is a cinematic masterpiece.
Lots of iconic moments for sure, and thank you!
This is where I draw the line 😭 (hasn’t watched yet lol)
On a side note I'll take my chances with the 10 million dollars a year 😂
@@sassygrilledcheese You would pick being miserable as long as you had money?
You should go watch the Christmas Carol again

HSM 3 NEXT PLS!!
Uh these movies were filmed in Utah.
yea someone else mentioned too, sorry :) This is why I make unserious content because I would royally mess up research on serious topics.
@@sassygrilledcheese oh no you’re good! I have read in places that is says New Mexico, I just live here and went to East High etc. it’s not a lack of research on your part! There are so many resources that report various things. And I think they do use parts of New Mexico and Nevada for filming though. And they only shot most of it here in Utah for tax purposes lolol.
omg I think I remember you commenting on a different vid about actually going to east high? I could be thinking of someone else. That would be so overstimulating for me. But still very cool! Yea there's soooo much conflicting info online but I don't even remember checking I'm pretty sure I just confidently assumed it was in new mexico and started yapping lol
You got game?
Ariana what are you doing here 🤣
Blasphemy
Love you brother but the school part of the movie was filmed in partially Murray High, Utah, East High, Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Lava Hot Springs location was at the Inn at Entrada which is in St. George, Utah. Thanks for the content you put out love it!
