Edward saying "I'm a killer, Bella!" and just drawing a gun and shooting the first random background character he sees would be a legitimately hilarious kind of non-sequitur in a parody. Too bad they had to ruin it by forcing a nonsensical reference into it.

I had a girlfriend at the time and we broke up because I was too shy. I sat down, read the entire series, and not only did it get me over the relationship not working, it also allowed me to have something to talk about with girls and broke all the shyness.
Also, I am also now transitioning to being a girl. So maybe it was Twilight

He went to scratch the back of his head and gain the courage to attempted to explain himself again but Bella only respond with a smile that seemed to fool Jacob just for a sec before she immediately dropped her smile and rocked his ass out straight out of the woods.

You can be ignorant without malicious intent, so it's completely likely that she does love Jacob and simply doesn't realize the horrible writing decisions she put into him. Not that ignorance is an excuse, but it doesn't mean she secretly hates Jacob and is intentionally employing offensive writing in the way he is written, but rather simply writing things she simply didn't stop for five seconds to think critically about the implications of. Just because it's offensive, doesn't mean it's malicious.

So I think generally people haven’t forgotten the negative aspects of that year so much as people are just desperate to return to ANY point in time pre-pandemic. There’s also something to be said ab 2016 being one of the last years there was any actual sense of normalcy. Like, everything since then has been a downward spiral. That being said, 2016 was awful and I’d elect 2015 as being the last year things felt relatively normal before 2016 kicked off the spiral towards the abyss. It is weird though how much nostalgia can make people blind towards the negative elements of whatever it is they’re nostalgic for.

Our local museum (Seattle) I think commissioned or at least displayed a video project with an artist interviewing teenage Quillutes about their feelings about Twilight. I remember this one kid who looked to be about 16 telling the camera, "we don't turn into wolves, but we are descended from them..." I unironically loved that. Way to own your myths dude. "Noooo it's fine, I'm not love with her! ....yet. Might happen later, up to her." "Oh okay I can deal with that, but you're on thin ice." @Platonic Waifu I was a teenage girl for the first round of twilight and I'm a little ashamed to say that I got swept up in the 'I'm not like those other girls!' bandwagon of hatred over some books I genuinely thought were just 'meh' (not that ever judged anyone personally for reading or liking those books or films) and wrapped it in the excuse that it was because of the bad messages about relationships and female role models and just that and TOTALLY NOTHING to do with the fact that society seems to hate and train us to hate teenage girls for liking dumb things aimed at them. I've matured since then and learned etc.. It's fine to not like something, you just need to ask yourself "why do I hate this?" Is it for a genuine critique (which twilight imo was valid to have in many ways) or a personal taste? Or are you being swayed by something whether it's a societal pressure or a "peer pressure" to hate it to an extent? Luckily as you get older you learn not to give a damn about what other people think about your taste.

I knew a guy whose mom did most of the wigs for Hollywood, and she did Taylor Lautner's wig. Apparently he was a real-life Jacob (pre-werewolf moodiness): Sweet, nice, happy-go-lucky, easy-going. It's awful how Hollywood and Twilight backlash treated him. (They also said this was the one time the wig just wouldn't cooperate no matter what she did, so they just stuck a beanie over it, and decided to nix it altogether for New Moon.) I also volunteered for the wolf sanctuary that the Twilight film crew used as a basis for their CGI wolves. They rented the entire sanctuary to film the wolves running around for two weeks, didn't feed the wolves in that time, then snuck a clause in the fine print to keep from paying the sanctuary for their time. The sanctuary tried to fight it for years, but every lawyer who looked at the contract said, "Sorry, there's nothing we can do." I know it's typical Hollywood behavior, but still...

We really enjoyed it!
The people who used to complain about how "vampire aren't gay" aren't actual Vampire lore fans, they were just everyday people filled with prejudice and buried into the homophobic mob-mindset. Seriously, they used to complain about how Edward looked like a gay man, but NOW people are shipping him with Jacob!! I'm not kidding, there are Edward x Jacob shippers in the internet.

My issue with the sparkling is Edward saying to Bella that people would know they were different if they saw them sparkling and that the sparkling lures people in so they can kill them. When most people's reaction would be "That's a lot of body glitter." There are versions of vampires who can walk in daylight, the original novel version of Dracula for example but he couldn't use his actual vampire powers until night, Blade vampires could as long as they wore a special sunblock, sunlight needed to be direct to kill Buffy and Angel vampires and so on. All those could walk in daylight but had limitations set on that. "People might see me sparkling" isn't a limitation.
