This pub was the first pub I drank a pint of beer in at the age of 17 in 1981. I played chess for The Bridge Inn Chess Club in the local league. It was my regular every friday and saturday night until my early 20s. I got drunk watching Live Aid in 1984 in the room where the pool table could be seen in the video. I spent my first New Year's Even in a pub there in 1981-82. I recognised Ray and Maureen, the landlord and lady in the picture straight away.
I visited a relative in Leigh last weekend, as I live in the Midlands now, and saw it had been knocked down and replaced by apartments and a car park, so searched to see if there were any pictures online. I came across this video. It is heart rending to see it like that ... and now gone completely. All my memories and my long lost friends, many of them who were much older than me and now also probably long gone. It makes me feel very old and very sad.

Yeah but at the end of the day m8 your lucky enough to have such good memories hence the reason we cover these places in our films so that people don't take things for granted because before they know it its all gone. Thanks for your history brother.

Just heard LULU on the radio singing 'The Man who Sold the World'. I recall first hearing this song in the 'Top Bridge, The date would be early April 1971. I was a young Leyther and Higher Fowder ( Higher Folds Council Estate in Leigh), I6 year old lad at the time trying to get accustomed to Greenhall's 'Best' Biitter !

New subscriber - loving these videos and enjoying going through them. I repair fruit machines, pool tables etc. in pubs and find the pub videos of interest. The fruit machine in this video is Cash Attack by Barcrest and was manufactured around 2007 - that could give some indication of when the pub closed, maybe a year or so after this. Great videos and keep them coming! 👍

A beautifully put together video, thanks a lot risking your neck for it! I had many pints in there in the 70's . It was the only pub in Leigh where I would drink Greenall Whitley and had one for dutch courage on my wedding day before the kick off at three pm at Pennington Curch :-)

I (Dave Shave) was in this place 4 nights a week between 1979 and 1985 then moved to Preston. Shout out to Scuthy, Jammy, Eric, Daley, Tonsk, Mac, Trig and many others.
The inital photos at the start (of some regulars) was taken by Yvonne Croston approx 1979 (my girlfriend, then, now wife, ex-wife).

@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt Thanks. I hardly recognised the place (even though I've not visited since probable early 1990s). Had a tear in my eye too as although I knew it was closed, I didn't know it had been demolished and 3 story apartment building gone up on the site.
Also hello to Martin and his missus Ann (barmaid), Greeny (RIP) the landlord Ray and Maureen's son, plusTommy, Kev, Pie, Nodge, Cho, not forgetting The Compost Corner (30 year olds) and The Muppet Corner (the other corner, as named by Jack from the aforementioned Compost Corner). They were 2 age groups in the Back room (the one that in later years had the dartboard) which had a fantastic rock jukebox.
The front room had the over sixties and the landlady Maureen would entertain them at weekends on the organ.

I remember your name, but I was mainly an Athy lad who sometimes used to come down to the bridge on a Saturday. You'll remember Howard Wiper I bet, no longer with us. Pretty unforgettable once you'd met him!
