I notice the fairly important point of WHERE TO GET BUILDING MATERIALS isn't actually that well explained, either here or in those tutorials, so here's the quick rundown...
Wood - Gillman Limber Mill, Silvie & Sons Logging Camp and Helvetia all have wood piles that can be harvested for materials. The "Woodchucker" luck perk will help here.
For most other things - gather loose junk objects that can be found all over the map. From tin cans, to plates, to ammo bags, to desk fans and typewriters these can be broken down at workbenches for use in building and crafting.
Prickett's Fort is also a great place to harvest wood.
What gives me rubber? I need rubber for generators and well, I ain't got that much.
@justsomewendigowithinterne7062 basketballs are a good bet. The gym at Grafton highschool has a whole bunch tucked away in a back corner.

do the locations, including the gym, regenerate their resources over time? I just started playing last night, but after playing with base construction in Fo4, I know access to resources is key.
Takes skill and dedication to build anything halfway decent, super satisfying when you can get stuff to work especially when you know it shouldn't work
Not really. DX gets more detailed than you need to be and uses some advanced techniques without thinking twice about it, so it looks a bit more complicated than it really is.

I'm new to fallout 76 but I've played quite a bit of Ark and the building is similar, I'm loving it (although I can already see it's limits and draw backs.

Just fyi, the food and water stats on workshops is the max number that can be stored and awaiting gathering, not the speed at which they are produced. nothing to do with the video, just not common knowledge and figured i'd share

Great, very comprehensive guide. Let’s hope lots of new players get to see it because building can be a bit puzzling at the start. And if it prevents some of those eyesore box houses all the better.
Haha I haven’t even placed my camp down yet because I don’t want a box build! I made EVERY mistake you can in these games in Palworld and learned how much of a nightmare it is to undo a trash build. Makes all the difference to put just a little thought into location and what you MIGHT want to do later. Plus it helps to know what you CAN do in a build!
@worm9135 one of the simplest ways to avoid it is to start with a box then add or remove bits to change the shape. It's basically what I did here and it makes a big difference. Most of the structural elements we have are based around squares though so it does kind of push you towards a box at first. One of the good things in 76 though is that it's so easy to move somewhere new and start over. The biggest barrier really is materials and even those aren't particularly hard to come by.

I might do that. Started with a basic 4 x 4 house. Just a roof and a bed and a vending machine and purified water thingy
A couple notes on getting plans.
Some plans are region locked, but are available from a wider variety of activities. The best example is the Signs and Letters plan. This plan only drops in the Cranberry Bog, but you can get it from any side activity in the bog. So yes, you can get it from the one workshop there, but it can also drop from other events like "It's a trap!" or "Surface to Air". But it can also drop from daily quests in the area like "Cop a Squatter" or from treasure maps.
Another note is that the "Claim a Workshop," "Defend a Workshop," and "Retake a Workshop" events don't share the exact same loot list. While most of the plans are the same, some are only available from one of the three, but not tge others.
All of these plans can be purchased from vendors, so approach it however you want, just know that you can get a better variety of plans by doing a greater variety of things.

im one of them, played all fallouts but not 76 because on release it looked bad and seemed weird being multiplayer, but now I bought on steam sale for £6.99 well worth the money

This would look good with the log cabin walls as well. There's some old 19th century structures in around Dothan AL that look a lot like this that are made of logs. Old general stores and gas stations.

This system does build on Fallout 4's but tbh it's got some huge differences too so I'm not sure your going to be any worse off for not having engaged with it in 4. Glad the video has been helpful!
Love this build for a modest home that is simple, clean, and realistic for the game’s entire and theme of the game. Its very functional as well. Can not say much negative other than for a fresh lvl 20 vault dweller (like myself) I can not build this right off the bat but can start it and continue to build it as I progress through the game… which is arguably even more rewarding in the end anyways. Thanks for sharing!!
There's a few things in there that will take some working towards. Most bits aren't too bad though if you go through the steps I showed at the start. The toughest bit is the power armour station really.

@Lordoftheapes79 I've had a few requests for things like that. Only issue is relatively few people will be interested in something that long. The upshot being that TH-cam won't show it to people who are interested either.
@@DarthXionGames That's true, but it would take very little effort and could be uploaded over the weekend while your not uploading anything anyway. Either way, just a suggestion. Then again, I don't know how your internet is billed across the pond, so there may be factors you're considering that I'm not.

Some mechanics are somehow nice, not good, but I prefer fo4 for some things, 76 for anothers. I played bc I purchased with the series hype but I kinda regret buying it. Some quest are a straight pain when they throw you around the map for some bs item but in fo4 you kinda can skip using dialogue. Nonetheless is a 6/10 for me
@KluChz22 having started playing FO4 again recently there's things in each game that I definitely miss when playing the other!
If you have Fallout 1st you can also use the private servers to make workshop takeover plans easily without worry of being pvped
Does the private server share the same inventory as regular?
@lxlKHARMAlxl yes. Private worlds are essentially the same as public ones, except the owner has control over who can get in. Custom worlds are a bit different though. For those you can bring your character in, but anything you do there, stays there.

When you place your camp and its built, do I have to blueprint it or does it store what i put down automatically? I understand each time i move my camp it wont be placed until i place it again but im not sure if i have to blueprint it so it wont get deleted. Just having a hard time with the stupid budget since i can't blueprint everything because my budget is small and only have enough to blueprint the house itself.
The game will remember everything when you log out without the need to blueprint. Next time you log in it'll put everything back as it was!
The blueprint system is there theoretically so that you can use it to place your camp back down in a new location should you want to move it. The reality is that it's very difficult to actually do that. Far more often you won't be able to place the blueprint at all. Most people just use them now to assist with building, like making sure objects don't jump up to roofs or placing things closer together. There are some very advanced building techniques that use blueprints too but I don't tend to go that route.
What’s the best way to make caps? I’m progressing the stories and expansion quests but I’m wondering if there is a way to make a lot more caps…
Selling unneeded plans, ammo, chems and junk in your camp is one option. Just be careful not to over fill your stash. You can also sell chems and weapons to vendors too. Most events and quests will reward caps on completion too.

So, I'm new to Fallout76. Am i correct in guessing that if i move my camp then all of this pops up when i place my camp somewhere?
If you move locations the game will attempt to blueprint your camp so that you can place it in the new spot... It almost certainly won't work though, so you'll have to delete the blueprint/s and scrap the stored objects* before starting over again.
*(unless you want to use them in your new build anyway)
Poseidon was complicated enough for me, couldnt find the third thing to repair at all in the building, was running around frantically until time ran out.
It's quite the maze in there. I'd assume that's the reason for the long timer. It's a pretty smooth run once you get the hang of it though.
I would Love to see a Nuka Cola themed base Camp! Think it would be a really fun build
I'd like to do that eventually. Getting the plans I need from the Nuka World events is slow going though for now.

Am I able to delete/destroy my camp? And if so how? When I was listening to Morts holotapes I placed down a camp to learn and complete the quest but where I placed it isn’t necessarily where I want my main base to be
If you find a new spot you want to build in you can place your camp unit as before. It will try to blueprint the existing one, (you probably won't be able to place it again though; it doesn't tend to work well), and store everything. You'll then have to delete the blueprints, and scrap everything in the stored tab that you don't want to keep. Then you can start over in the new spot.
@@DarthXionGames damn that sounds like a nightmare! That’s what I did in Palworld and let’s just say, I’ll never place a base in a game again without a little research! 😂 I’m on Xbox One and it was crashing every 15 minutes! Took me a whole day to move everything!
Nah it's easier than it sounds. The whole idea of moving your camp and placing it somewhere else was a big thing when the game launched but the system doesn't really work for that. Now it's just a case of setting up somewhere new and tidying out the menu of everything you don't need. It takes a couple of minutes but it's not a big thing really.
How do you make so many caps? Lvl 65 and having trouble buying anything including secret service armor. Played through the main stories and onto doing events as much as possible
The secret service stuff is on sale for bullion so that shouldn't affect your caps. Doing events for treasury notes then turning those in for bullion at the machines at Crater/Foundation should get you rolling there.
For caps it's just a case of selling what I don't need. Usually chems. I only carry about 30 stimpacks, 10 radaway, 5 diluted rad-x and 10 psychobuff at a time. I keep a supply of the psychobuff but otherwise everything over that gets sold. I usually have plans some meds and ammo + a few weapons on sale at my camp so caps come in pretty regularly. With nothing much to spend them on but materials now it's easy going.
Sell ammo your not using for 1 cap and sell legendary weapons at camp too
The issue with selling legendaries is that they take up quite a lot of room in your stash, and unfortunately don't sell like they used to. Contrary to what a lot of people seem to claim, even the best stuff is unlikely to go for more than a few thousand these days. If it sells at all.

Me I just sell for whatever it pops up in the vending machine and add or minus it. I’ve made good money that way and plus it’s a game. As long as it gets out of my clutter I don’t care really. Honestly I’m a cheap HO and only use the vending machine to promote my TH-cam lol
The corner bit that you struggled to put in after taking away the stairs won't click in for me even after following the video 😢 pls help
It can be annoying. I'd say just make sure there's nothing there but the roof. Failing that you could try putting everything back except the stairs and see if that helps the game to figure it out. Another option would be to try a different server.

My problem with fallout 4 was always the fact that I played for like 5 hours and then I became a full time base builder. Not even Preston could get me to help another settlement. I never beat the game till this day because I always fell into the loop of base building. Hopefully I don’t do the same in 76 😂
It took me nearly three years to finish Fallout 4 for the same reason! I've managed to do both with 76 though!

There's a few available, though some are Atomic Shop items. Personally I just want all of the clutter objects that Bethesda decorate with to be available. I'm always spotting things in game that I want for my camp.

Having a problem with the porch roof, I get them all on until the direction change at the back of the house and can’t seem to get it to snap against the building. Only wants to snap going 1 block out of the foundation. Pls help
At a guess it might be the stairs or the wall being awkward for some reason. Make sure it's trying t snap to the roof next to it not the wall, otherwise you can try removing the walls and possibly the stairs too. Once the roof is in you should be able to put them back.
It’s not the internal roof pieces it’s the exterior for the porch after deleting the wall and changing the roof to a corner to create the (floating roof)
@jessekruck9918 that's what I thought you meant. Sometimes the building pieces nearby will interfere for basically no apparent reason. Generally speaking if something isn't snapping that should, assuming there's nothing obviously blocking it, then it's probably something strange happening with the neighbouring pieces. Basically the same thing as with that triangular facia that was blocked by the stairs earlier in the build. That should have gone straight in place, but as you can see,bit didn't.
In short, for things like this, try removing things nearby until it works, then put them back. It's one of those weird idiosyncrasies of the system that you get the feel for over time that's a bit of a nightmare to explain.
You forgot to tell em there’s a pipe pistol on the corpse too the right easy first weapon pick up gets u started
There's not much point anymore. They've changed the start of the game so you'll have a 10mm and 200 rounds at the very least.

How do you get that ability of jumping?
The increased jump height comes from having the marsupial mutation. I've got a jetpack on my armour too.
But what happens when you log out? Does it disappear?
Technically yes. But it'll be back when you log back in. Unless someone else is in the same spot in which case you'll get a warning so that you can either choose to build a new camp elsewhere or simply log back out and join a different server, where your camp will be waiting for you again.
I do not build that big. Other players can see it super easy and i do not want that.
I only use the camp close to the wayward ( if players are not near )
What happens if I log in and my camp is destroyed because it overlaps with another players camp?
It'd not destroyed, just not placed. You can log out of the server and it should be fine when you log into another world. Otherwise you can take the option to move it elsewhere. If you have multiple camps you can also load another one up instead.
Does anyone know how to get more build budget for camps on the PS4 or PS5 version?
Build budget is fixed at the same level across all platforms. Certain things will use up a greater proportion of the budget than others though. Turrets and crops at top of the list. Avoiding things like that is your best bet for saving as much space as possible.
@@DarthXionGames I see players on the PS5 with so much stuff in their builds. The only way it could be explained is obviously they played awhile back when the build budget bar could be manipulated. Or they figure out away to do it since the update. I’ve tried spamming the store button on turrets, doesn’t work. I tried the multiple corn placements, doesn’t work. I even tried the power conduit glitch to reduce the build budget bar. All have failed. It’s crazy how it still works in fallout 4 storing dropped weapons. Now I regret not playing earlier now. I missed out on the Nine ball table punching bags all types of good stuff including the ability to exceed the build budget. Damn….
@theshepherd6388 your wrong there. If by some fluke they had managed to go over budget the game tells you to start removing things and stops you from using half the stuff in your camp until you do. They're just keeping the most budget-hungry items to a minimum.

@mvximus3188 press and hold the reload key! It's the same in Skyrim too. 😎 If I remember that's one of those tips that pops up in the early game briefly and is never mentioned again so it's easy to miss!

I hate this building system as much as I love it. Challenging, infuriation, and satisfying all at the same time.
Fair. 😁 Personally I think it has something building systems in other games I've played don't... I have absolutely no idea what that something is but it's definitely something! 😂
So building is free?
Depends what you mean by free... You need crafting resources like wood, steel and concrete but those are available all over the game world to just pick up. You can buy them for caps from vendors too. The plans for hundreds of objects you can build are all over the game world as random loot, quest or event rewards but some are only available for caps from certain vendors. It costs a handful of caps if you want to move your camp too. Otherwise it's free. It is worth mentioning that the Atomic Shop has a lot of stuff for your camp too, but that's not free. Pretty much everything on there costs Atoms and the main way to get those is buying them for real money.
How the hell do all you streamers have an endless supply of ammo?
Crafting and spending a lot of time playing to establish a supply of materials. Or at least that's how I do it.

i just started playing the game and at level 20 and have NO where the building parts that your showing off and building with in this video. Its not exactly a beginners guide to building a camp when folks like me who are real beginners dont have access to the building parts that your showing off or building with in this video. maybe you can make a vid that shows how to build a camp as a actual beginner instead.
