It's great that these two companies have started making and competing for good, low price DD options. We as consumers always benefit in these types of situations.
Personally, I went with Moza as their stuff just looked to be better quality and less like a toy. Moza stuff looks like racing gear whereas Fanatec's stuff looks like gaming gear. I've been very happy with my R5 and with my next splurge, I can jump to the top of the of the NM scale since the R21 is only $1000 - which in sim racing is not bad!

Owning a Moza R5 since last April, have had 0 issues and performance is amazing, coming from a Fanatec Forza CSR Elite belt drive. DD is far superior to belt!!
No question that direct drive bases are superior to belts and gears. I expect with these prices for those technologies to slowly disapear

@@Lucapizza_ Yes it is durable. I only run @55% FF strength since it's so strong. I just got a R9 and run it @45% strength.

@@Lucapizza_ I got a deal on Moza GS wheel (real carbon frame) and Fanatec Clubsport V3 pedals. TBH, much better than the R5 bundle, which is great for newbies to sim racing on a budget. "The KS steering wheel is compatible with ALL MOZA Bases and compatible with 3rd Party Wheelbases via an adapter to directly connect the PC." I HIGHLY recommend the SR-P Accessory Kit!!!

Great video - thanks - in South Africa, Fanatec has no footprint so we are restricted to third party sellers at much higher prices. The CSL DD bundles sells for 50% more than the R5 bundle through our local suppliers. You could import direct from Fanatec, but risk shipping, customs costs plus the issue of aftersales support
That is a lot of money extra. The choice is easily made then I guess.

Good choice. That shifter really is also good bang/buck. I dont really think the Mclaren wheel will be that good for drifting and rally. You might want to take a full wheel for that

What should be noted is that the delivery times at Fanatec are catastrophic. And even worse is the service, which you can no longer even reach by phone.
Who buys Fanatec, should pray that there are no problems. But alone with the order everyone will have the first problems^^

It is a remark that comes back a lot lately. Victim of their own succes perhaps.
I like Moza a bit more, because the unit is smaller and the Wheel it prettier imo.
But upgradability is an important factor. The pedals of the starter bundles are obviously bad but with fanatec you have the possibility to upgrade your pedal to a load cell instead of being forced to buy completely new pedals, which is huge.
But I'm still undecided. I have to watch more reviews. 😂
Well... dont count out Cammus either. I will hopefully receive a C5 and LP8 whenever they get released by customs.
100%%% !!!!! Moza makes prettier wheels ! I thought I was the only one that thought this. Fanatec’s wheels for the most part are just ugly. Especially that wrc orange Xbox compatible wheel.
The Fanatac is on promotiona and the 8 Nm mod not too bad. How you weigh the choice now, having lost your rig in a messy break-up?
The performance kit for the Moza SR-P is a must for their brake and at $29 USD is not too bad. With that, the pedals are pretty good.
Great video, there is just one thing I'm a bit worried about. I have seen alot of people complaining about the customer services of both brands. So in case something happens to either of the wheels, I'm a bit scared if the customer service will help because I've seen so many people say they don't care
Unfortunately SAV is a Joke at most companies. The reason is simple. There is no money in it. It is true however that horror-stories tend to go public more often than succesfully resolved issues. I guess in the end, you just have to be lucky unfortunately.
Lepezil, Fanatec customer service/support is woeful. I have a DD Pro, and whilst a good product, if I had to go through the buying process again, Logitech would be the go for me.

@@supercededman maybe, but I have seen also stories about MOZA and even TM support. Difference is that they probably will not attest to it, but believe me.... their SAV is not brilliant either. As an outsider it is not easy to "compare" and grade the level of SAV since we usually only see the horror-stories come out.
At this point where both dd bases are cheap its just on you what you choose they are pretty similiar. I personally like the fanatec more but the moza is great too so its just your choice
The possibility to upgrade the Wheelbase with a PSU to 8 NM and buying the Loadcell brake later on is a huge bonus for Fanatec. If you want this on Moza you have to sell the R5 and get the R9 and the SRP Pedals which is in fact more expensive than the CSL 8NM + CSL LC Pedals. And no third pedal with MOZA.
I agree completely on that. More flexibility. For those that went that path, this Black Friday was a golden opportunity to upgrade. 👍

I’m in this predicament right now. I can get a r5 bundle with pedals and springs for the pedals for about 550$ total, or I can do the CSL dd 8nm with the cell pedals and fanatec wheel for 700$ such a issue cause I want the power but don’t want to spend too much. If I want to get around the same power with moza I need to spend 900$ for the r9 bundle and pedals and that’s just too much, wondering if the extra wheel size and power, and better pedals makes it worth the risk of dealing with fanatecs reliability or quality (also fanatec is 3 times faster shipping and also like 75% cheaper shipping cost 😂😢)
MOZA might be a bit better for reliability but I also know they are better in hiding their issues too so its really hard to say which one is better for reliability. If you're unlucky, you're unlucky 😕
I also find The McLaren GT3 wheel to be a decent solution. Prefer it over the GT DD Pro rim that I had first. P.S.: If anyone with a broken T300 due to lost feedback is reading this: It can be fixed. Handyman work, only real is expense is 2K glue.

@@SimulatedDrivingResource Might help as well. But only on top of the initial fix with glue. In my T300 I have used a Noctua fan as a replacement. The original fan failed after dismantling the wheel. But the PC fan didn’t have the correct connector of course. If someone needs it, I can look up the type and post it.
Perhaps a video with all current issues and solutions for a variety of bases wouldnt be a bad idea. I will look up this glue fix when I get back from holidays. Thank you my friend 💙
I'm so torn between the two. One huge factor is the pedals. The r5 has no option of adding a load cell pedal, and the pedals only work with the r5, and that limits the market to sell them if you want to upgrade the pedals. Also I primarily race oval racing, so the larger diameter on the fanatec is better, in my opinion. Also worth noting is the fanatec does not come with the table clamp and is $30 extra.
The main question is then, will you have enough power with the R5.

I’ve had a moza r5 for a week and it’s been nothing but problems. Over heating is seriously an issue. The only way to solve it is turning ffb down super low and strapping fans to it. If not you only get about 15 min before ffb starts getting weaker. Sending it back and getting a csl.
I have seen more and more issues pop up indeed about this and people attaching fans to their R9. I really question their (and other manufacturers) for not using an active cooling in combination with the passive one. I hope you have more luck with the Fanatec. In terms of warmth generated, it is better, that is sure.
@@SimulatedDrivingResource I agree. It’s such a simple and cheap fix. I can’t imagine why everyone(manufacturers) wouldn’t integrate some form of active cooling.
@bamm6181 how is the csl ? I have been between the R5 and CSL. I've heard a good amount of people complaining of overheating issues with r5, but also unsure of the quick release on the csl. At this point I'm more on the fanatec side though.

The quick release collar on the Fanatec DOES loosen and disconnect from time to time, as you point out. I hadn't experienced the loss of wheel connectivity for a while until the other day when all FFB and ability to change gears ruined a race for me.
It took me ages to figure out what the issue was. At first I thought it was me sitting on my controller (or contacting it) and causing a conflict between it, the wheel, and the console.
Out of frustration I finally took the wheel completely off, remounted it, and REALLY tightened the collar. Voila, problem solved. I was just about to place and order for a Logitech G-Pro, which is a superior wheel, I think, when you add in Truforce.
Can you do a review of the Logitech wheel, with loadcell pedals?
Yes, that describes exactly the issue I had with it too and the fix. I really would love to test the Logitech wheel but it is simply to expensive for me. I would loose about 200€ minimum if I needed to sell it after review and thats not worth it for me. I am checking second hand sites every day for a better price but have not encountered any Well priced on yet. Of course, when I do, I will review it.
It is superior obviously, it's 11nm with logitech build quality. But bare in mind there's still no extra wheels, even though their QR design looks like the best so far. They're just slack on ecosystem development.
No other wheels, no G pro shifter.
That's logitechs issue. Everything they make is good and appropriately priced generally. As long as you like that wheel, then cool
Good quality. From what I have tested. Yes. Appropriately priced... perhaps for a year or 2 ago, yes, but not anymore. Granted, they have console compatibility but a price-tag for 1.1k for a wheelbase and pedals, be it 11Nm is not of this time any more looking at the competition.
@Neosphinx yeah fair enough. I guess I was thinking of the cheaper yet poorer quality items like their shifter. It's a good product at its price point.
But yeah I thought the G pro stuff was premium in price too.
All the other G series stuff seems OK from the top of my head though.
The main factor with logitech I feel, is build quality and overall reliability.
I see G25s still going strong, while seeing people have issues with late QRs.
Anyway I know it's not as simple as one is better.
I just think if they had a good eco system of wheels, then it would be a worthwhile consideration 🤔
@@GregoryShtevensh absolutely. The ability to customize your setup with a F1 or rally steering wheel, add a handbrake or a shifter or just have the choice between pedals is an absolute must imo too. Like you say, it might put Logitech into consideration more
One thing I strongly prefer about the fanatec is that it has a dedicated handbrake port and TWO dedicated shifter ports on the back of the base. Because I'm not going to have a dedicated setup (at least not to start with) I intend to put everything on a stand and simply move it into place in front of my PC when I want to race. Only needing to plug in one USB into my computer instead of 3 is a very nice quality of life feature.
That and the fact that you can upgrade it to get 8nm, the lower price and the wheel that it comes with is more suitable for my preferred discipline (rallying), and its the CSL DD for me. The Moza definitely has a lot going for it, though, and seems like a very solid option.

I placed an order for the csl dd 5nm bundle on friday. After I did that I was chilling in the Fanatec forum and damn this forum is full of people who are waiting for their stuff since Black friday, having problems with refunds and stuff. I think I never canceled an order that fast. I absolutely dont want to fuck around with problems like that. Now I just ordered the moza r5 bundle.
Yeah, you can Upgrade the Fanatec base to 8nm but I dont care to be honest. For me 5.5nm will be enough since im coming from an G920. I dont buy the r5 because I want to be a hardcore sim racer, I just buy it to have fun in racing games without waking up my Kids because the G920 is so freaking loud 😂 im not Planing to Upgrade anything (but i bought the Brake kit tho) and keep it for a long time so I think the moza r5 is perfect for me and will be delivered und 2-3 days while on fanatec you will have to wait weeks, of not months
There have been issues on BF indeed because of high pre-orders, abusing of promotions and a poor antcipation of the succes of BF and their products from Fanatec. That being said, now it is running better again.

one more thing that pushes me more toward Fanatec is just the overall support for games outside of sim racing. Moza gets no support, even in newer games.

For console I'm going to buy a Brooks Ras1ution to solve my console comparable problem I'm pretty invested into Moza ATM to turn to fanatec and I'm not giving up the greater quality you with Moza products

You bought a good piece of hardware. The winner between both is dictated by what you find important. All I do is highlight the differences. For upgrading, just drive with what you bought for a while and you will see what you want to upgrade.. First thing I upgraded was pedals because the brake just didnt do it for immersion.
You made the right decision. I went with an r5 and it’s been absolute garbage. It overheats after 15 min of play with low settings. Sending it back and getting a csl

@@bamm6181 You probably have a defective unit. I heard about overheating problems with the R9 but not many with the R5. A lot of people run full FFB on their R5 for 2-3 hours daily. 15 mins on low and it's overheating it's definitely not normal!
@@tdmdchannel2339 well moza deemed it not defective. Luckily I was able to return it and get a simagic alpha which obviously blows the r5 away
Some ppl say in last update Moza R5 get boost and now have 6.5nm torque ? Is it true do you have base to see is it true >?
Unfortunately not. Second hand these are still very expensive and I had to sell mine to buy something else. I believe they already had higher peak-torque than the 5.5nm on the spec sheet but it is certainly possible the bases are "overclocked" via software. The question is, how will it affect the overall health of the device. The R5 remains on my list to buy so if I find a good deal on it, I will certainly test it too.

Problem with Fanatec is they seem to be falling apart... order issues eymtc have been a hot mess.
Moza are the new kids on the block... and you can buy their stuff in UK online stores like Onega and Overclockers.
Fabatec is German. You buy it from Germany ... and when it goes wrong, you have to send it back to Germany.

new Moza R5 V2 has built in hub for all peripherals such as shifter, h/brake and so on, plus it is slightly warm after race, no overheat anymore
P.S. here in Russia thx to sanctions we have 550$ Moza r5 bundle (with free shipping and working customer service) and 720$ for Fanatec CSL DD bundle without customer service so... moza all the way))

I went with a MOZA R5 it was open box at my local microcenter it was brand new and untouched for $424 I couldn't pass it up I also bought the Moza hgp shifter and clutch add on and just got a cs wheel in they mail the shifter is by far the best shifter I've ever used in a sim everything else feels like a toy compared to mozas shifter it even feels better when shifting than fanatecs and the cs wheel absolutely destroys and fanatec wheel in or around the $249 I paid for it it's solid metal and carbon fiber the closest thing fanatec has the club sport rs cost $349 and it's button box is plastic and there's zero carbon on that wheel Moza just in oozes quality I have zero regrets and I'm honestly glad the fanatec csl dd was out of stock and I had to look elsewhere it was definitely for the better especially at what I paid I was really lucky direct drive is most certainly where it's at
I agree. From what I have seen of MOZA, it is superior for quality than Fanatec and that CS wheel is exactly the wheel I would buy and like you say, a wheel specced like that at Fanatec is much more expensive. If you can buy an R5 for that price, even the "issue" that you cant upgrade the base (make it more powerful) is less relevant. But again, this depends from region to region. In Europe, I do find the prices for MOZA just too inflated.

Sorry friend. I buy these wheelbases from my own money and make these video's because I like making video's. Once I am done with a wheelbase, I sell it and buy another.
The thing with CSL DD 5nm is that you can modify some aftermarket PSU so with very cheap way to have 8nm.

i hear its fake 8nm though. Supposedly still doesnt feel as forceful as moza. The 5nm forces are not the same even though the number is the same.
The number mentioned is Peak torque which is different from holding or continuous torque. The MOZA has a higher holding torque than the Fanatec.
Have a r5 would never look bk works mint 100% of the time never been past 4hr of races but spot on only down side it don’t work on gt7 enless u use a 3rd party adapter but then u have next to no ffb part from that moza all way
It is very good hardware and indeed with either simhub the ffb gets emulated as a controller and Brooks raslution uses Logitech G29 so its really not suited for console. Not yet anyways.
Fanatec does offer more variety but with Moza its definitely quality over quantity it's quite about nice than fanatecs wheels quite abit better build quality

@@SimulatedDrivingResource A few days after writing this review, I found a moza R5 from an official distributor with a pre-order option. :)) It was around $875 and I bought it immediately. Unfortunately, I've been waiting for a long time, but I don't mind since I bought it cheaply and it has a valid warranty in Turkey. I even bought it in 6 months installments :)
I would have to bring Fanatec CSL DD illegally. There are many people in Turkey who use it like this. Since Fanatec does not provide official dealership and only operates as online sales, there are serious taxes at Turkish customs. That's why they don't ship personal orders.
Rather than paying the same money for a product without warranty, it made more sense to buy a MOZA brought to Turkey through official means. Because, if I want to buy an LC pedal, a new wheel, or a new pedal set in the future, I will have to look at those that come illegally. Moreover, they sell them at exorbitant prices as if the taxes have been paid.
In conclusion;
I always had 8NM CSL DD in mind, but it didn't happen. What I'm curious about is that when you increase it to 8nm, they say the holding torque is equal to 6nm. MOZA R5's 5.5nm power is also said to be really good. Is there a significant power difference with CSL DD? I think about this all the time. If I want to buy R9, I will have to stretch my budget very much right now. That's why I was able to get R5.

I have been wanting to buy both of these wheels, but the R5 is $730 for me, and the Fanatec $610 with the Mclaren GT3 wheel. But the problems with overheating units, and malfunctioning wiresless data units made me go with the Fanatec. I am happy so far. And for $50 I get a good industrial grade PSU (not the cheap ebay ones people write about) to make it 8Nm instead if I want. Havent needed to open any fanatec software cause it feels great out of the box :) But I mostly play Assetto Corsa Competezione which is a fanatec sponsored title, so would be wierd otherwise (it also has some fanatec extras in the game settings), I also find the Moza wheels to be quite ugly to be honest compared to my GT3 wheel :)
Fanatec 5nm it's too week in corners only game where 5nm shine it's assetto corsa original game where u can put ff to 150% and u feel every corner and u need to hold it strong in other games not good.. Mclaren wheel is very good only buttons are noisy but in general great steering wheel.
I bought the GT3 wheel the other week, and also before getting the wheel i bought all the things to make the buttons less noisy..and guess what, Fanatec must have upgraded the wheel, cause you can hardly hear the gearshifter anymore, so I did not have to mod it :) only the pit limited and neutral botton sounds, but I never use them anyway. Only bad thing about the wheel is that the rotary encoders feel very cheap, but the grip is very comfy!, been playing for hours today without any problems. Not sure why its too weak in corners? its way harder than a normal car to steer, even harder then the karts i used to drive and they have no power steering, which GT3 cars actually have.

And yeah plastic Qr is shit! After month or a litle bit more (average user) started to make noise so I need it to put a litle papir under plastic Qr so it don't move to much. It's better to buy In start with metal Qr.
@@AxfelRacing the metal qr slips also. I see in my qr that its slipping cause it got marks inside. I put some tape in for sure. I saw that there is a guy who makes a new wheel mount for this and its solid. Only problem is if you want to change wheel you need a tool. But its half the price of the qr1 and doesnt clonk :)

My R5 NEVER got hot at any time. Running at 60% and it's more than strong. I don't undearstand why others claim they need more strength. It already has more strength than a real car...
It has the same strength as some cars in some situations. But not for others. Glad that you dont have issues.
More forces mean effects are less stacked on one another. Effects are more separated, people buying 20nm wheel base don’t put it at 100% forces. 60% is roughly the TS-XW force, good if you either have a very "light hand" grip in any circonstances or very weak arms. So yeah running 60% of its power it wont overheat but if you can’t run your small forces dd with full power without it overheating it’s not good when the CSL barely get hotter than room temperature at full power after driving it for 2 hours

You didnt drive REAL car dont You? I mean RACE CAR. The proper power is around 20-25 Nm, I even drove 32 Nm and it was superb. 5NM reduced to 60% is a joke.
