  • Are you considering becoming an expat in Medellin, Colombia? In this video, I'll take you on an apartment tour of my cheap Medellin apartment and provide insights into the cost of living in Medellin, Colombia.
Medellin is a vibrant city in Colombia known for its affordable cost of living, making it an attractive option for expats looking for a comfortable lifestyle without breaking the bank. During this apartment tour, I'll show you around my two-bedroom, two-bathroom Medellin apartment, which is located in Poblado, the most visited section of the city. Poblado is an excellent location for expats due to its proximity to restaurants, malls, nightlife, and office spaces.
Apart from the apartment tour, I'll also discuss the cost of living in Medellin, Colombia. My $600 Cheap Medellin Apartment Tour features my apartment that costs around 616 US dollars per month, which is significantly lower than the rent for a similar apartment in a decent city in the United States. Additionally, utilities such as gas, electricity, and water cost around $93 per month on average, making it a budget-friendly option for expats.
I also want to cover The Real Cost of iving in Medellin. In terms of food, Medellin offers affordable options that won't hurt your wallet. You can eat out most meals on a daily budget of around $15, covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you prefer homemade food, you can cut the cost in half.
Apart from the affordable cost of living, Medellin is a city with plenty of entertainment options for expats, such as restaurants, dance clubs, museums, art galleries, theaters, and parks. Additionally, you can travel within Colombia and neighboring countries at a relatively inexpensive cost.
In conclusion, if you're an expat looking for a cheap Medellin apartment, this video will provide you with a good idea of the cost of living in Medellin, Colombia. Medellin offers a comfortable lifestyle without burning a hole in your pocket, making it an excellent option for anyone looking to live affordably.

I would bump up rent cost in El Poblado to around $1,000. Rent costs have gone up considerably. I was in a 3 bed 2 bath apartment 120mts in El poblado (nice area) and now an average price for the like is 5million+ pesos (over $1k US). Many landlords are NOT renewing tenants leases so that they can bump the rent to actual market values. Legally in order to renew a lease landlords can only go as high as the yearly inflation values which is a lot lower than market value. So they don’t renew leases in order to keep up. That just happened to me. Don’t blame them. I’d do the same.
So 5million plus seemed excessive to me so I ended up purchasing a place.
Envigado is nice (used to live there) but traffic in Medellin is a beast and sense most of my errands are in el Poblado, it is much more convenient living there. Sabaneta is another great town but Omg, it’s even further into traffic!
All in all it’s still inexpensive if you earn in Dollars. Just bump up your budget expectations. Unless you’re single or a couple that needs only a 1 bedroom. Good stuff!

@@ZorichaiI rent here now and have been doing so for about 5 years. I was able to save so much money because I generate USD and live very simple and humble here. I make about 20.000.000 pesos and it is all passive income. My rent and cost of living is no more than $1,200 dollars per month. Still not sure if I want to buy here though. Bank CD's have been taking care of all my monthly costs. Not sure if that will be the case if I use that investment money to buy a house. If equity keeps going up then that be great over the years. But then there is rate exchange, maintenance and taxes. Then if the peso goes down I can also lose there. Lots to think about.

Great country and people.. Just bought an awesome top floor condo in Medellin a few blocks from the stadium thats massive for under $91k USD and just got another 2 bed in laureles for $66k.. Only thing that I dont like is the way the transaction is handled in colombia compared to the US. When you buy a used property in colombia there in no escrow services for a netural 3rd party to hold funds. Theres escrow services only for new properties.. Luckily, I have family there from my wifes side... If you do your homework on Colombia you will see that its economy will continue to flourish in the decades to come just like whats happening in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. Countries like Chile have become way too expensive to buy since youll see some condos/houses more expensive than in San Francisco here in the US.... I cant imagine how it gets to that point that residents of their countries cant even purchase on their own native land....
To circle back, Colombia is a damm awesome country.. Great art, film, and music scene.. Food is very good and transportation is excellent to be honest...I highly recommend people consider it as an investment choice or to retire which I plan to on the not so distant future..

It's so sad how foreigners call a $600 rent cheap, when it used to be around $300 about 2-3 years ago. Not that it's entirely your fault as an individual, but we locals can't afford to pay rent anymore, and you calling it "cheap", just... privileges (minimum salary here is just a little over $200, so that's not a cheap rent and we don't have a decent place to live, even as middle class people, this is definetely out of control)

    • @Karl__Pierre
      @Karl__Pierre  ปีที่แล้ว +17

Let's examine this. I understand your point of view as far as me saying it's cheap. Others in the world can say the same thing about your position relative to there's. 3 years ago this apartment was not $300 additionally alot of what's driving the price is inflation more so than foreign demand. Local demand is also driving prices. The demand is so high that I'm watching buildings be raised aggressively to meet the market demand, which creates jobs and drives the Colombian economy. I big setback in Colombia was the handling of the pandemic and how that led to a total shut down. Again I understand you are frustrated and my best recommendation is to focus your efforts on earning more money because it's totally within your power to gain skills that are more valued on the global marketplace

It sucks to hear that but I think it's a worldwide thing. Prices in america and all over the world are shooting up too. I wish they paid yall more out there, but the sad thing is that it seems like it wasn't priced for yall to afford, even when it was considerably cheaper. And to add to this i know foreigners get charged more for the same thing than locals do, so its more than foreign money causing the problem. The same in africa, parts of Asia as well. I don't really know a solution. It's way deeper than expats though. We dont set the price, or benefit from it. The greedy of the world know no end.

We are traveling for 4-5 years from Mexico to Argentina, in search of our favorite retirement city ( currently in Nicaragua ).
In Colombia we think we might like Manizales, and believe it is roughly 25% less expensive than Medellin. We love cool weather, speak Spanish, and live a modest lifestyle. Without budgeting, we still think our total costs there would be about $1500/month for both of us. According to our current schedule we should be there in about 18 months.

Being retired - I personally consider that apartment extravagant and unnecessary. -- A nice yet somewhat frugal studio is fine with me perhaps 'next door' to your high dollar neighborhood ? -- The extra $ might go for a cook & house cleaner who can provide some shopping and a few days of very good meals working for me a day per week ? -- The travel around the city alone will take some time for orientation and will be quite fun. -- That weather - is amazing ! Might need an umbrella from what I hear ?

Umbrella is a must. You can get a similar apartment in a building in Centro for about 250-300 oddly enough studios aren't that common or priced well. The savings can provide you with a fully time minimum wage employee ie housekeeper Cook 5 days a week so if that is a better use case for the money certainly. Where are you living now?

Great video. Thank you! I have a question for you. Are you bothered at all with the amount of foreigners in Medellin, especially Poblado. I spent about a year in Medellin last year and towards the end it started getting annoying with the amount of foreigners there. And the locals seemed to become a bit more predatory with the increase in foreigners and more dangerous. Medellin has a great quality of lifestyle for the cost of living, but I ended up leaving because it felt too saturated. But perhaps I'm missing something and should give it another chance. Did any of those (gringo saturation, dangers, etc.) give you pause when deciding?

Street guy wants to swap a pair of scissors (10,000cop?)...i refuse, he grabs my umbrella, threatens me with the shears. I recover the umbrella, start walking stairs into metro station...street guy attempts to kick my feet from under me. Bystanders have called the police. Street guy exits the scene...police arrive, 15 minutes later. Cruise the area...nothing.
