Epic $1K APARTMENT TOUR MEDELLIN, Colombia (+ More Cool Condos) Medellin Apartment Tour Poblado

  • In this awesome Medellin apartment tour, we’ll show you around a place we rented in Poblado for just under $1,000 a month.
    Then we’ll show you examples of 4 other sweet Medellin condos that cost way less in other popular neighborhoods around the city.
    Medellin Colombia has become a super hotspot for expats and digital nomads. And when you see these apartments, you’ll understand why.
    Especially when you compare these luxury apartments in Medellin with similar properties in the US - where according to Statistica, the average price for an UNFURNISHED small apartment (studio to 2-bed) costs around $1000.
    Don’t get me wrong, you can find rent WAYYYY cheaper than $1k in Colombia (I paid $80/month back in the day). But today, we just wanted to show you where you could stay with a reasonable midrange budget.
    (Keep in mind, these are all FURNISHED condos in Medellin. If you plan to stay longer term and rent unfurnished, prices drop significantly.)

    Heyo! Mitch and Day here 👋🏼
    We’re just your typical American-Colombian couple determined to live every second of our precious time here on earth to the fullest. After a 10-month solo backpacking trip through South America, I (Mitch) stopped in Cali, Colombia to take salsa dancing classes 💃🏻. I only planned to stay for a couple weeks, but God had other plans for me. I met a cute Colombian girl (Day) in class, those couple weeks turned into a couple years, and before we knew it...we were married 👰🏻🤵🏼
    Now we’re traveling the world full time as digital nomads, supporting ourselves by working online 👨‍💻👩‍💻
    Our goal with these videos is to inspire you to step outside your comfort zone, give you an inside peek at our crazy imperfect lives, and show you that you don’t have to be rich to live an extraordinary life...all you need to do is make the choice!

    • @ProjectUntethered
      @ProjectUntethered  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it all depends on what you're looking for. It seems like most expats centralize in El Poblado, but many are starting to spread out to other neighborhoods for better deals and a more local experience. Glad you're enjoying your time there!!

    • @MonteLogic
      @MonteLogic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProjectUntethered Yes, but the language barrier out there is something to seriously consider. Colombia is ranked near the bottom at 17 of 20 Latin American countries in English. So the 'local experience' for me was Google Translate and pointing and using hand signals. Even though I have had been studying Spanish for 3 months before I went.

      I see your point - I guess it all depends on what you’re looking for! But in general, the gringolandia areas are usually quite a bit more expensive. Also for me, Spanish was worth learning because it opens up doors for nomads in 20+ countries! If it were a language only spoken in one country, I’d feel much less compelled to learn.

      Puede ser así algunas veces, en otras veces es por el estrato socio-económico, los lugares donde concentra el turismo como el Poblado es estrato 6, el más alto, si un colombiano renta ahí, sabe que deberá pagar más, por eso los colombianos de menos ingresos buscan rentar en estratos 2 y 3, donde hay menos lujos. Otro factor es si alquilas un apartamento por largo tiempo puedes negociar el precio mas abajo del costo al que lo rentan por corto tiempo.

      If you do enough poking around, you should be able to find all sorts of different length contracts. Some will be longer, but others are month to month. It all depends on the landlord.

    l had what they call a studio, which is actually a 1br, on Cra 78 por la 30 in Belen with 2 bath, no view, low floor, no parkling spot as I didn't have a car, hot water heater, hook up for washing machine, galley kitchen with typical new haceb 4 burner stainless built in countertop range with oven built into the cabinets below the counter. I wasn't cooking as I could get a menu executivo for 5 or 6 mil daily. it was clean, even modern looking on the inside, but simple. unfurnished, I paid 470 to 600 mil a month going up like 20 mil a year from 2010-2015. I paid directly to the owner consignando to their Bancolombia account monthly. Steps away from parque Belen where they have all you need. Steps from Metroplus but I walked everywhere including to/from the Centro. Speaking Spanish a must there in Belen. Made friends with all the locals. Many nights eating street vendor empanadas, while slugging beers, loud music and dancing with beautiful senoritas. Immersed in the culture only venturing to Poblado at best only 2-3 times a year. Maybe I spent at most 40 mil pesos in a night and always felt satisfied. Started going to Medellin in 1999. Up until about 2006 it was just the best. Rustic, donkeys working in the street, if you were driving drunk the cops would give you a ride home, no fotomultas, a real freedom. Had the place all to myself as one of the few gringos there those years. Then it got ruined starting about 2007 by whore mongers and the flood gates opening of every blond haired blue eyed Euro sandal wearing backpacker. Parque Lleras was once classy believe it or not back at the turn of millenium. Now it's a sewer. I have a few places around that still feel like the old days. Not sharing to keep them to a very select few.
