Alan Lewenthal deserves much credit for his dedication to restoring the 69 Z28 to factory specs. The man lost money but gained an enormous reputation for getting it right the first time. Love the man's passion, Kudo's to Alan and his shop people for putting an American classic muscle car back on the street!
John Hancock those stripes are so wrong it's ridiculous. Considering we haven't even gotten into details and something that big is already incorrect... It's the first thing and I'm betting it's not the last. An actual $100k restoration wouldn't have these sort of screw ups. Saying he "got it right" is exaggerating quite a bit.

Great show with little drama but it is still a reality show. This is not a $100,000 restoration. He paid $7000 for $800 worth of quarter panels, we are not that stupid. No way he took a $40 grand hit to just sell it either. It sold for what he had into it at the most. Still better than the Turtle family arguments or the other bullshit car shows out there. I still give it a thumbs up!

I just sold a 69 RS/SS350 numbers matching needing assembly that I've had in my possesion for 41 years . All new sheet metal but time was not on my side. My brother had a 69 Z/28 midnight blue that he sold for 1,500.00 when I was 15 , I managed to drive it a few times without him knowing, how wished he would of held it for 2 years when I got my license. Sorry to see you didn't make the number, but you guys did the car right.
I just checked eBay and there are quite a few DZ302s for sale. Yeah, they're $4000 and over, but they're available. Imo, I would love to see a built DZ302 with all forged internals, balanced bottom end, head studs, built heads, some custom made 1 7/8" turbo manifolds, and a big turbo or F1A Procharger. Something bulletproof, high revving, and above all...fast. Those 67 Z28s and Firebirds are an awesome chassis for a drag racer.
Last summer i took a BONE stock 140hp 1978 malibu with a 305-2 barrel with stock exhaust, stock everything! ,with an open 2.29 rear end on stock radials, Ran 16 seconds. it is a 4 figure car. lol
That 302 built right should be making 400 to 500 hps. The 290 hp rating was a TOTAL lie from the factory. with 3..73s it should have been hitting 14s in the quarter.
69 RS Z-28 flat hood, no spoilers, no console, 780 Holley, chambered exhaust, original been in my garage 50+ years. For all you genius that think they know everything.
That guy that sold them that made out like a bandit. Nice they brought it back, doubt it would have been even less profitable now days. Well, that's not really fair, the thing was really old and came from the rust belt. They didn't even used to galvanize steel in these bodies, it's not a big surprise.
Talk about wrong info...the Z28 wasn't a "street racer" or a drag car. It was a designed as a track car to compete in the SCCA trans am series in 1967 , that's the whole reason the engine size was capped at 302 cubic inches, in order to fit under the 305 cu inch limit. Likely why the previous owner swapped in the big block to go drag racing. Unfortunately the restorer was dreaming to think he would recoup 6 figure restoration costs on a Z without its "born with" engine. Not a very wise move, and the 40 grand loss is proof of that.
+my31and37 U nailed it absolutely correctly a 16 second quarter mile in those days I was racing meant U were driving a dog or our grandmothers car ,,, a 302 was a waste of space in the world of street racing
+harpguy1 Really, it was rated 290HP @ 5800 rpm but would easily do over 7000 rpm and had closer to 360hp. With the off road package it made about 460hp. I had a DZ 302 in a 70 chevelle and ran low 13s with smaller 1.94 double hump heads. Put a bigger cam and 750 duel feed holly and shattered the aluminum wheel at the track. Not saying these cars today don't make them look like grocery getters but they were fast for their time.
+my31and37 Yea I thought it was funny dude was throwing so much money into a car with repop fenders, non matching numbers and in a wreck... all over a dam paint code.
my31and37 Dead on target Sir. If he wanted to restore a , 'street racer', or for the drag strip, perhaps he should have done a little more researching and searched for what I call the Z/28's Daddy the, "SS" model that was equipped with a Big block under the hood. Additionally, this guy failed to install the trunk lid spoiler during the restoration process.
+PrayfrJapan .com I got a 1982 Z28 with an aftermarket 350 cam and bolt on's only making 280ish hp and it runs 13.7's. this guy has no idea how to race on a strip. look at all that wheel spin.
This car wouldn't have 404 horsepower once you put exhaust manifolds instead of headers and all the drive belt accessories on it. Was probably running rich after them jetting it for headers.
Wow ! Amazing that two replacement quarter panels cost A LOT more than the car brand new ! My close friend bought a nice used one for $3200 and still has it. 🤣. I sold my 69 Chevelle SS and had a total of $6000 in it. But sold it for $3000 to get a 71 Trans Am with a 455 factory Hurst 4 speed in excellent condition for $3600. Sold it when my daughter was born for $4600. Thought I was making a profit 🤣🤣. Now these cars are worth Boo Koo Bucks ! If all of us guys new what these cars were going to be worth.🤣 You could get them dirt cheap all over from the 73 gas crunch days all the way up until 83. Sheeesh !
False claims. All of the 'risk' is on the show. Someone got lucky and picked up a "z-28" for a price that even at the final strike is too rich. The owner did not lose $40,000. All expenses are covered by the contract with the show.
That's what happens when you pay $7k for a thousand bucks worth of quarter panels. If he bought parts at this scale for the whole car, no WONDER he lost that much money. I smell a pile of lies going on during this show.
I love this car, love the color, but I would personally add the classic spoiler to the back. I feel like it’s incomplete without it. Still fantastic ride though!
Most staged yard find in history, air in tires, zero weeds and rats living in it, no discoloration, not buried half in the ground, rolls like a dream after sitting for years vs dragged out with all 4 wheels and breaks locked up by a tractor

They also didnt open the same car hood they showed it with a black hood hood with orange stripes then on a close up when he finds out it has no engine the hood is orange with black stripes
A stock rebuild can be as expensive as a resto-mod . Stock cars attract purest, nothing wrong with that But resto's attract lots of Yups with big bucks !
In '69, the 302, 327 and 350 could have all came with the same 618 casting block. The only difference in these three displacements was the stroke. It's convenient that they do not show the actual DZ suffix code.
My dream is to have a 69 Camaro built pro-tour. I would just get a Dynacorn body all new sheet metal. Also born and raised right down the street from Fisher Body Flint, MI.

I wonder if there could be a show where after showcasing all you went through to bring the car back, the viewers could be the people with a chance to buy the car (with a reserve in place). Everyone would know why the reserve and if by chance it didn't sell ... there's always another auction, there's one every week.
it didn't cost 100 000$ to rebuild this... maybe around 10k-20k in parts and car + salary for those guys. Still it doesn't worth an real original preserved camaro that never got rust and still have the original engine in it. I like to watch rebuilds but I hate to see that kind of bullshit on price/profits . Keep dreaming about selling a 50 000$ car over 100 000$

16 sec quarter mile is pretty snappy? My stock pontiac station wagon ran a 15.. what am I missing here? Pretty car though.. love it! #addictedtoFbodies
The steel wheels and hub caps gave the impression that you just made the car shiny. Maybe, if you changed the wheels and tires to something newer to the eyes, it would have made a lot of difference $$$$$$
Add the cross ram and the different cam and pull it to 7500 and you will get 450+ HP. My friend had a tunnel ram on his and pulled it to 8,500. It was over 550 HP.

Nice restoration with only a few minor incorrect things. D96 pin stripes were only available on very early production Z's. D96 according to factory paperwork was quickly removed from the Z28 and SS packages after the first couple months of production, and only used with Z21 trim group on non Z and SS cars that didn't have other stripes. D96 is only documented as being on pace cars from then on. This being a February car shouldn't technically have D96.Being the Z21 style trim though it should have had blacked out lower rockers, I don't see where they applied that.
Not for nothing, but I was always told a "double dash" paint code meant the car was delivered in primer. Paint work was done by the dealer before delivery.

I like to watch rebuilds but I hate to see that kind of bullshit on price/profits . Keep dreaming about selling a 50 000$ car over 100 000$
Can't believe all the rookie mistakes...for such an experienced car buyer....
Allen looks like I need an anger management clown but the shows okay
I wish these guys had a show on Velocity!!!
PARTS...and LABOR (staff) , THEN pick an auction by what that auction house SELLS. NOT in Atlantic City where the sales are older classics. Musclecars sell at B+J, and MECUM.
Makes my El Camino look like a Pro Mod...
This show is really just a bunch of scripted garbage. Great, impressive restoration at least.
+Dylan Cyr Welcome to new age TV. Absolute garbage. You can thank Survivor for discovering and defining "Reality TV"...
Bruh my last name is Cyr too.

I am a new subscriber, my friend told me it was great channel, and hell ya I think so.
Snappy 16 seconds? my 91 suburban would kick that things ass down the block. 😂
East coast is the worst place to find a car. You can actually watch the car rust away.
Northeastern part of coast. From Virginia down to Florida you have half of a chance...
Idk my 73 elky doesn't have much rust and I live in tn
My dad had a tubbed z28 69 Camaro it was teal with some stripes on the side it also had a corvette engine that was built it would do wheelies
16 sec quarter mile is pretty snappy? My stock pontiac station wagon ran a 15.. what am I missing here? Pretty car though.. love it! #addictedtoFbodies
😆
Lost 40k on the auction is definitely not "loosing a little bit of money man"
I wouldnt have sold it. Keep it for a brighter day.
That blue is 🔥🔥🔥
I would keep it and wait for another auction
The steel wheels and hub caps gave the impression that you just made the car shiny. Maybe, if you changed the wheels and tires to something newer to the eyes, it would have made a lot of difference $$$$$$
Classic American Muscle!
that one has not been sitting in the weeds...look at the new shinny bolts...cool show tho
That things a snail..... 16 seconds lol
You know it was going to end bad, when he paid 16000 dollars for a 2000 dollar rust bucket.
Add the cross ram and the different cam and pull it to 7500 and you will get 450+ HP. My friend had a tunnel ram on his and pulled it to 8,500. It was over 550 HP.
Well done awesome
I had a dusk blue 69 Z/rs specd out same way with white interior. Looks close
Alan IS the best, like if you agree.
LOL
my stock 265ci 4 barrel and with 3 speed stick in my 56 Bellaire 2 door turned high 15s and low 16s all day... Someone got screwed here... THAT WAS DOWN RIGHT UGLY TO WATCH IT RUN....
That’s too bad Alan the money you put into that car unfortunately I had a 69 Mercedes 280 S was restored in San Diego brought back to Rhode Island ended up on the auction block in Newport Rhode Island and sold for much less then What I had into it so I know how you feel but what a gorgeous car my favorite
I didn't think a DZ block would be hard to find? They lived a hard life dude! You could have paid a lot less.....
