Aidan would have gotten sacked had he climbed the pocket.
Numerous QBs got sacked this weekend on bad blocking. Running didn't help. Justin fields got sacked twice. Once got sacked while trying to run.
A sack is better than Aidan forcing a bad pass for a possible int.
This play is not a total loss. Aidan will see similar plays in regular season were he has to decide whether to take a sack and take the three vs making a stupid pass and possibly turning ball over.
His job was to get points and protect the ball. Would have been nice if Aidan got a fourth down to go for the TD.
Just title this "Excuses for AOC's poor play" and then do a breakdown of Gardners scoring drives and why they were somehow terrible.
Even the last play wouldnt save brady from that sack 😂 i think tre ran the wrong route. If he cut towards the middle it wouldve been a td.

Yeah its like WTF is Tucker doing on the 3rd down play? If he just breaks his route off toward the inside its an easy TD. Instead he happy feets toward the outside directly into the coverage and runs into Mayer. He needs to get into the film room.

Yeah that play was on the receivers and the left tackle more than AOC. The receivers ran into each other where he was trying to throw it and Peat got beat immediately
Peat pushed his guy 10 yards up field, i know he lost but if you're beat this is what you do. Push your man as deep as you can so the QB can step up. AOC fades back looking for the throw that is clearly not there. If he steps up and turns his head he would've seen that the left side of the pocket was completely blown and there's miles to buy time that way. Again nobody is arguing that this isn't a blown play from the start but a better QB makes something happen off schedule.

Huh? That was a designed cross route which is why aaAOC still threw it to the spot the receiver was supposed to go. The problem is the dbs showed man but were in zone and he got pushed right into the corner. Aiden shouldve checked out of that play and recognized the mismatch.
Good break down. This one is not on AO12. Luke will clean this up with spacing or Tre Tucker runs the inside route and is WIIIIIIDDDDDEEEE open for a TD.

I dont think thats what they are saying. I think they are concerned because "the kid" made those same mistakes last season.
Aidan’s getting better but he’s not there yet.
My comparison has always been Eli Manning.
Same thing with a young Eli, sometimes he didn’t feel the pressure, sometimes he stood statuesque, would stay with Burress too long when covered, didn’t go through his progressions fast enough.
Aidan is getting better, he had a 102 QBR, with Aidan what we have is Potential, this what the football ignorant don’t see, he needs to get better, he is getting better and has shown us glimpses that his ceiling is Very high.
This is the biggest knock on AOC. He has to get better here. Having said that, for the most part he played smart and accurate on that drive that started dang near on their own 1.
Watch Zimir on the first play. He would have at the very least gain 2-3 yards or maybe a TD. We should of pound that ball into the endzone.

Honestly for AOC, this shouldn’t be a knock as it’s just more so an area of improvement. He back pedaled to get more space to throw and give his receivers time to fix a broken play. But all this is only bc he’s very much a pass first qb! A mobile qb has more scrambling awareness in the red zone bc their brain tells them they are also an option to score! In the red zone, AOC just needs to understand that he too can run the ball if things get dicey and he will be fine.

If I was head coach, I would make it and O’Connell work on pocket presents and the scramble drill all day long all week long !!!!

Preseason is about seeing what others can do. Trey was probably thrown into the mix to evaluate. But yeah, AOC needs to be quicker in the thought process.

I think on that play when it broke down he should have just threw the ball away. There's no point nobody was open. Throwing a ball away eliminates the sack doesn't get hurt and even if he did step up he wouldn't have got very many yards. Everybody was around him at his feet in his face. I think that's the proper thing to do in that situation
@@adrianboria5633 I agree but that’s tough, as hard as Turner was coming he wasn’t going to get out of the pocket so he would have had to launch it out of the end zone. There’s a huge chance Turner is able to get to his arm and deflect the ball.He gives up a INT his fault or not he’s relegated to QB2 and he knows that.
After everything calms down and he has more job security I think he launches it.
Hopefully that happens sooner than later.
And take a penalty for intentional grounding? You loose more yards than the sack.

AOC does that and it’s grounding every time, you’re right.
That's on the QB to recognize those matchups, not really on the OC. On top of that its also on the qb to not just throw to a spot blindly like he did on that play at the beginning of the vid.

it was the first drive of the year! we started like on the five and drove it to the 2 if we power it in we aren't talking about those 2 passes, Raider Nation lighten up we know our Defense is top 3 our Special teams are top 3 we saw our starting offense put up 20 points by halftime, and you guys are crying damn. Bad route(s) run on that play, with no Devante Adams. Would rather take a sack there than throw a pick. Preseason game 1....not worried.

Nah it was well defended, but Aiden threw to the wrong guy. He determined where he was going before the play even started because he assumed it was man but it was zone. Shoukdve went the below route, easy TD.
I’m willing to bet all of these players and getsy are watching these plays and self scouting right now. I think O’Connell is still green enough that he will learn from these plays. Between all 3 of the players in question here, they have 2 years combined nfl experience. If it was a getsy issue and not just a blown route, hopefully he is humble enough to see his mistake in design

For now I think Minshew should start, if he has a scoring drive against the cowboys & plays clean I think the job is his no matter what AOC does

Stop with the 5-10 tre tucker comments. His height with his speed is what makes him dangerous and elusive. Tyreek is 5-10. Every year it’s the same: We have high hopes entering the season and we start thinking about the draft late October early November. A qb is important but damn on paper we look good. Watch bears tape luke getsy had the bear bumping into each other in a few plays last years dude is an awful oc. Players from other teams where telling the wrs of the Bears they ain't using u right .He wasn't our choice of Oc he was the just the best available.
Yeah, he really better clean that up. I know coach Antonio Pierce has reviewed the tape and seen that that was actually the second time in that drive to receivers ran into each other.
i seem to remember Davante and Hunter running into each other on a crucial play in regular season that cost us the game

I got to put the blame on that third downplay on the receivers just running to wrong routes, but the second downplay was definitely on the OC
O'Connell is not nor will he probably ever be very quick on his feet. As for Tucker in the regular season more likely than not there is probably a bigger WR, or TE in the slot. For plays in the red zone.
