  • California Forever - the group aiming to build a new city in Solano County - moved one big step closer to making their dream a reality Tuesday. The group announced that it has secured more than enough signatures to get the initiative on the November ballot. But as Jodi Hernandez reports, the group still has an uphill battle.

Look at the track record of failing urban areas surrounding the land. They haven't been able to fix the existing issues and they want to build more? How about demonstrating the ability to fix current social issues like narcotics trafficking, homelessness, mentally ill roaming the streets, little of no police and fire response to crime, real estate speculation, lack of water in drought cycles. damage to sensitive wildlife lile Grizzly Island and the Delta.Travis Airforce base? What about that?

Not in a million years. Not now. Not ever. Look at the evidence of the homeless camps in every town and city in the State and the State's selling of critical infrastructure like the Mental Rehabilitation facility in Sonoma to developers for luxury homes. In fact it was billionaire Tech and New York investors that jump started the Homeless issue and housing affordability in the State.Look at the track record. Look at the fact the State has allowed the fentanyl issue to continue for 2 decades. Follow the timeline. They are trying to kill low income people not help them.

When have you ever heard of a BILLIONAIRE spending billions of their
dollars to help the lower class???
If they honestly wanted to make a positive impact on the residence
such as myself, they would work with the existing cities in Solano
County to achieve their same goals.
They could also work to build more affordable housing in their
own communities so workers wouldn't have to commute from
Solano County to their jobs in the peninsula.
    VOTE NO IN NOVEMBER!!!!!

Let's look how this came about. Developers purchased land in secret over a period of years. They took landowners to court to force them to sell their land. They say they will pay their 'fair share' in improvements to infrastructure. After their 'fair share' the balance belongs to Solano county citizens. What is their 'fair share'? No one knows. Problems of water supply, sewage and garbage to the estimated 40,000 homes and businesses has not been thoroughly work out. What if their 'fair share' doe not cover ten yrs down the road?
Developers state this is targeted for 'middle class' with houses starting at the low $400Ks. A $500K house in Solano county is about 1600sq/ft and one bath maybe two. This is without upgrades. Anyone who has bought a house before knows there are bidding wars. When we purchased in Vacaville we were outbid 5 times. Bay area people are desperate to leave the bay area. I can't blame them. Fairfield, Vacaville and other communities in Solano county are building houses as fast as they are sold and built. Even before they are built. In Vacaville alone there are at least 6-8 subdivisions in the building stages right now with another 3-4 in the ground breaking stage.
Another thing the citizens of Solano county need to remember is people who live in the bay area are far more liberal in their politics. You only need to look at Arizona to see what happens when a massive swing to liberal ideology takes place. Sanity went to insanity quickly.
We will be voting NO for this project.

    • @mm7886

It wasn't done in secret. The land purchase wasn't all over the news while the purchase was in Escrow. That is the difference. The billionaire doesn't have to disclose everything to you or anyone else. Most real estate transactions aren't in the news. Was your house purchase all over the news when you put the down payment, got the loan and in escrow? Probably not!
Small minded people in Vacaville your the problem in this world. Not people who have ideas that are to hard for you to fathom.

This needs to be nipped in the bud. That land is too close to Travis Airforce Base and perfect for foreign spies. It wil have its own infrastructure which includes underground piping, electricity, and gas. It will have a police force. Only if I hear a high ranking military guy give the green light who believes that this will not pose a threat to our national security, would I vote for it.

The same as Sacramento being only 38 miles away from Travis AFB and the city of Fairfield being right next door. Maybe we should send a letter to the Pentagon about the Fort Lewis-McChord base being next door to Tacoma Washington with it's population of over 200k people. Quick lets tell the highest ranking military officer about Fort Lewis and the many other large cities such as San Diego and Honolulu sitting right next to our bases. Our national security is at stake here I tell ya and it's been that way for decades. You NIMBYs never fail to put a big smile on my face.

IF it is outside Travis Air Force Base I believe that land has been SOLD and No longer American Soil so why invest in it? It will pull in Chinese Steele anyway I AM VERY SUSPICIOUS of motives and intentions of this MOVEMENT. I hope someone looks into the ownership of this land before Contraversy is drawn up all in a ploy to DUPE Americans out of MORE Money. 🤷 #NeverFearTruth

I am a strong proponent of more housing being built including walkable and transit-oriented places, but I am not supporting this proposed development as it's sprawl being built way too close to the Travis Air Force Base, agricultural lands will be gobbled up, water consumption will increase, and the economies of the surrounding communities nearby will be affected. With transit in Solano County being poor in which BART has no plans of expanding into Solano anytime soon traffic on I-80 and major roads nearby will worsen. If their proposed city ends up being on the November ballot and gets voted down, those Silicon Valley billionaires should sell the lands and use the concepts of their proposed city to redevelop the areas around the VTA Light Rail stations which are mostly sprawling office parks, strip malls, and gigantic lots (parking or undeveloped lands) which believe it or not is one of the main reasons why the system itself has poor ridership and if that happens I will consider supporting the company.

Oh no lets move the bases in Tacoma, San Diego, and Honolulu. We can't have sprawling cities next to our bases. Oh my I cannot phantom all of this, our national security is at stake. What I am actually trying to say is that we should be improving existing communities well served by transit by building more housing instead of building entirely new ones from scratch to be accessible to all income levels. The way that it should be done is using the Middle Housing Concept from Opticos which involves diverse housing options such as townhouses, duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, bungalows, and cottage courts. Read the book "Missing Middle Housing" by Daniel Parolek as it serves as a guide for planners and developers.

@@RagingBull-go7lo Read my comment again, I'm directly addressing your statement about development near a US base. That statement is as NIMBY as they come and you can tell me more how that statement about development near bases isn't NIMBYISM. I'm with you on redevelopment of transit rich locations if property owners are actually willing to sell their property or willing to upzone the property themselves.

Why is East Solano Plan not accepting comments on their posts? Their posts state millions of gallons of water are being wasted on people who have invested money on farms. These are only sections of this land that are irrigated. Most of the land is used for grazing and uses rain for watering. The only people 'needing' this city are the people from the bay area. Solano county has had so many businesses close. Look at the Solano Mall. I don't understand how the investors think their businesses will fair any better. My vote is "NO".

    • @mm7886

There will be a water base built there to receive the rain for water. Even if people vote no on the initiative. The developer billionaire will find another way to build it. The mind of a billionaire doesn't give up. That is why they are billionaires. There ways are higher than yours. If they think it, and the idea comes to their mind. They do it and get it done. Then the rest of the little people have to deal with it.

Your right. People in Vacaville are small minded that do not have the ability see anything in a positive prosperous way. They condemn everything, judge everything, oppress others and influence stagnation. They listen to the pastors that misinterpret the Bible and bilk the money out of ignorant small minded people that cannot think for themselves.
The difference between the billionaire and the small minded town of pastors and amoral people is that the billionaire works for a living and produces wealth in a honest way. The pastor is an attention whore that talks too much that doesn't want to work and doesn't have the ability, skill set and procrastinates hiding behind the preacher title misinterpreting the Bible to small minded people who do not think for themselves while the pastor bilks the money from anyone they can. Put some of those pastors in a job where they have drive in traffic to work each day to work for hours on end 5 to 6 days a week multi tasking, using equipment, answering phones, using a computer, make them think and take directions from someone else, working around co workers and those pastors will flip out, cry and have a temper-tantrum. They are pastors because they are lazy and do not have skills. There disabled mentally, emotionally and physically and expect other people to coddle and cater to them. Pastors for all the wrong reasons everywhere!!
