Good buy as a Bare bones. I would always swap out the manufacturer's SSD anyway, as they are about 40% slower than a cheap x4 stick. Shame you didn't test it in a RAID setup - it was almost like Minisforum wanted you to - but great review!
Same with me .. And I have it connected to 3 monitors playing games watching youtube and normal workstation stuff all at once and all day. Never gets over 165F . Not 1 single issue since ive bought mine 2 months ago . This baby is a powerhouse .

Way better performance and less problems with arm. If they ever make a NAS mini pc product capable of supporting up to 6x 3.5" HDD and 2x SSD, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I bought the mini PC here in Germany from a company called CSL. It is probably exactly the same device as in the video. My PC has the Ryzen 7 7840HS installed, however. As far as the noise level goes, I found out that if you raise it a little higher by about 10cm using additional rubber feet, it is still a shame! The gap under the device (if it is on a desk) is probably a little too small, and the fan simply spins faster to get the air. Otherwise, I am very happy with the computer.
Steve, Beelink also introduced a firmware on 6/21 for the GTR7 that lets you select 45w, 54w, 65w for cpu tdp if you want to let it run a bit cooler too!
@kogami420 for real, i just got into the mini pc market and can't tell if beelink is better or minisform when it comes to thermals and overall reputation alongside support.
Love that the cmos reset button doesn't look like a short mishap away from a bad time, would have been nice to have at least one of the usb4 ports on the back, while I can see some use cases for having it on the front just seems counterproductive for a clean look that many of these are going for as well as counterintuitive when you consider most people expect to find things relating to power and extensions on the rear of the case, either way minor gripes aside love the IO on offer and looks like it would be a great system for on the go casual gamers and homlab servers even if it has one network port itself.
It's almost perfect for me. The only thing that really irks me is not having 10GbE integrated. It's got blazing fast internal storage, but would then be limited for network transfers by that 2.5GbE port, unless I buy another dongle. Seriously...come on! Marvell has great AQC113 chips and I'd pay extra for this capability. Yes, they usually use more power than 2.5GbE chips (more heat), but not everybody is stuck on Cat5e networks. I'd also prefer the USB4 ports to be on the back with the HDMI ports, having all the display outputs on one side and then 2 USB-A on the front instead, but that's a minor thing.
Fair warning on the 790 pro: I've learned that Minisforum doesn't yet have drivers on their site for Windows for this unit yet, and AMD doesn't have graphics drivers out yet either. Just found this out the hard way a couple days ago. Also had a strange white flashing screen issue in Linux, which is likely related to AMD not having drivers for this out yet.
@@neilquinn Bit of an exaggeration but yes, there are a handful of problems. RDNA3 is the least mature being the newest gen, so there are some growing pains. Moreover, the entire Phoenix APU is super fresh, so not surprising here. Best for folks to continue checking back with Minisforum online for driver and BIOS updates and AMD online for graphics drivers updates.
Here is my experience with this. Bought a barebones and installed 64gb Ripjaws 5600Mhz, WD Black 1TB PCI-e 4.0 to fill it in. The Windows 11 download was pretty straightforward with the ISO provided on thier homepage. I use my PC for light work, browsing and watching a lot of video on it. All peripherals are connected via Bluetooth, but never in a million years came to a situation that USB SD Card readers devices are not recognised! This problem is also all over Redidt too. It's the 3rd day after writing to them and they've not responded yet. No resolution so far. If anyone has had a similar problem please mention a fix to this! So much for thier support. So future buyers beware about this problem.
It's good for gamers, software programers, video editors, and Office 365 productivity. Very individual focused. However, it is horrible to roll out to multiple employees in a short time due to difficulty getting to the SSD. Not something an Information Technology team should use at a company.
First comment and like ! Patrick and the STH team you folks rock - I always enjoy your videos ! Learnt a lot from you all. Thank you so much and best wieshes !!
Barebones is key. I would never buy something like this without choosing my own SSD and RAM, especially since in a device with only 2 NVME slots I would go 4TB in both.
Does anyone know if this motherboard supports ECC memory? I know that unofficially this processor supports the operation of ECC memory, but I don't know about the motherboard. This is a key aspect of buying this device for me
Check out their NPB7. I've been using it for about a month now and it's got the feature/performance/price point I was looking for in a very small package. Great review!
How is it working with both USB-C power and 19V power connected from the back? Which power supply will be used? Also, how is graphics performance and suspend on recent Linux?
graduate student working in machine learning who does a little gaming on the side. Options have been, 1. buy a better laptop ( currently use a surface pro 7, i7 16GB RAM 256SSD) 2. build a desktop PC ( which is eventually what I want to do) 3. buy this UM790. I feel like this device for around $700 is a steal in terms of performance. Anyone in the comments think of a better option for someone like me who wants to do some gaming and data science tasks? Was looking at the Beelink GTR7 as well. What do you all think?
Hi, is there anyway you can do a review on the UM PRO 890 with the built in occulink and show currently the best portable eGPU's out there for review??
These mini pc manufacturers insistence in using the rubber feet to hide the case screws is beyond annoying. It’s like they never listen to their customers.
Thank you for this review. I think this one is perfect to replace my mother's old gigantic desktop that recently died. She mostly watches TH-cam videos, pays bills, & plays basic games. But if she wants to play more advanced games with fancier graphics she should be able to. This will take up much less space and be easier to deal with. The sound isn't a problem since we have fans running in the house all the time and she wears noise cancelling headphones anyway. Did you test out the Bluetooth to see if it was stable and had good distance?
Anyone else having sound cracks on the UM790Pro when a USB sound card is attached? Bluetooth audio works flawless. Will test the 3.5mm jack later. My Soundcard is attached to one of the USB-A ports. With this being the only exception, this little thing runs flawless under Linux. Performance is amazing! Noice level is completely acceptable.
MinisForum finally replied, they want me to send the unit back to them first, only then they will send out a replacement. My 1st order was made June 29th, and did not receive until Aug 17th, almost 2 months of waiting. They also do not tell what the problems are. To the future buyers of Mini PC, I say buy the GTR7PRO
Awesome video for 790 pro i've seen so far, I'm considering to get a 2nd mini pc for gaming (dota2) and watch some videos. Would you be able to advice on which setup (Ram/Ssd) should i buy? Thank you
@@ServeTheHomeVideo You should get a pair of real DDR5 ECC SO-DIMMs and include testing with those in any future SFF review that you do! Does it accept it, is it recognized as error detecting and error correcting according to the OS. Thanks in advance!
I had mine less than a week ago and sent it back to amazon on the same day it came in the mail. The wifi card was terrible. My acer Nitro 5 can download at over 500Mb/s. The Mini PC barely got 50 Mb/s. I even tried putting a TP Link Archer wireless adapter to boost speed. It conflicted with my wireless mouse no matter what USB port I used. Most likely because it isn't equipped with enough PCIE lanes to handle those 4 USB ports on the back. I even had a 220 dollar coupon and thought it was a ripoff. Over 1000 dollars Canadian is way too much for this. I mean if you're building something that can game you need enough pcie lanes. You need fast wifi to download big games. It's a great start, but these Mini PCs are clearly unfinished. I won't be buying one for quite a while yet.
The only change I'd like to see would be swapping one of the USB4 ports and 2 of the USB A ports -- that way if you wanted to have it connected to an eGPU, you leave your front C port free, and if you want to connect a USB A accessory, you don't have to reach to the back/pick it up to plug things in. It's amazing what the "laptop" class components can do these days! It seems like not that long ago that they had to put true desktop CPUs in honkin' huge laptops or relatively large mini PCs to get into the low/mid-end speeds of desktops at the time... now we have these cute little boxes! As much as I love building desktops, it's great to see options that would allow you to get performance with a few boxes and wires in a few minutes. One of these, eGPU, some storage... Got a full editing station.
This is perfect! Let's see if they introduce a cheaper version with maybe the lower powered U chips, or just Ryzen 7 instead of Ryzen 9. I don't need a mini PC right now but I definitely want this!
So I finally bought it and risked with 2x48GB DDR5 and it works great with 96GB of RAM (I am not surprised as this CPU support 256GB of RAM as per AMD). Like really great. (I am coming from Beelink SER 5 Pro with Ryzen 7 5800H). Proxmox - excellent. But igpu passthrough... forget it ;-)
just ordered this as a barebone, added 2x48GB curcial and 2 x 2TB Samsung 990 Pro. Seeing this comment makes me happy i did. Planning to run proxmox on it too. this is my first dive into the world of minis i hope i enjoy it. also planning to use it for firewall pending when i can get a physical one.
@@kwazie_harry great choice I believe. Comparing to my previous Beelink SER5 it is much much faster, but of course when you stress it completely it goes to 120W. But that is only during tests - normal average is about 55W. One thing though: just 1 NIC... but ok, at least 2.5Gbps
@zyghom thanks for the heads up. I can get a USB C NIC to help with that. How long you been using yours. Cos a lot of people usually tend to complain and return within a month of purchase.
@@kwazie_harry I bought it on Feb 6th and using since then. No issues AT ALL. Average power consumption is around 30W. Proxmox and 30+ VMs and CTs with 2x m2 SSD working in mirror zfs
All the positive points are in this video with none eof the detractors, like the exernal GPU probably can't be more than a 1080, because of power constraints. It seems like they have everything you need, except support.
Thank you very much for this video presentation. It could not have been more timely as my unit just arrived yesterday. I ordered mine with 64GB RAM , 1TB SSD and Windows 11 Pro. My immediate first impression, I love it!! This will become my main production machine. Currently I am using an ASUS ROG F15 Dash TUF, closed lid and connected to my external LG 40" Ultrawide 4K monitor as my main system. That also works just super. A couple caveats I have noticed up front. When I connect my LG monitor to the UM790, I noticed I only get 30Hz refresh. That is UNacceptable. I presume I would / could get better over the USB4 ports, but hey, are these not HDMI v2.1 ports? Are they not supposed to support up to 60Hz even at 8K? Now, I don't know if the cable makes the difference as I am using one of my own HDMI cables I have laying around rather than the cable that came shipped with the kit. Do HDMI cables have rated variations (i.e., v2.1 compatible) similar in the way there are differences between Thunderbolt 4 active, Passive, and plain vanilla USB-C cables? The other caveat I noticed is that when I attempted to upgrade my Windows 11 Pro to the latest Windows Insider Preview Build (#23493) on two attempts now it hangs at 64% and I had to resort back to the previous installation as they shipped it. I wonder if that has something to do with this being an AMD vs Intel processor. Cheers, Jerry / Tokyo.
I know that DisplayPort cables can have official ratings from VESA. I'm not sure about HDMI. I've seen mixed thoughts on this that cables don't truly have a rating and rather it depends on their quality, but that's can't of the say same in that the rating is supposed to assert a minimum quality level. I'd just say just stick to reputable names and avoid the random Amazon ones that claim HDMI 2.1 for next to nothing as there are plenty of fakes on the market. Yes, though, I'd 100% try another HDMI cable. There's also a place in Windows to change the refresh rate and a place in AMD Adrenaline graphics software, so you might verify if 30 Hz is actual max or just defaulted to and can be set higher. As for Windows 11, I'd say not necessarily that it has an AMD processor but that the Phoenix APU is so new, yes, it could be a driver issue or something of the like. If only MS made it more straightforward to review an error log when something like that happens to know for sure.

@@dannieduplessis2432 WiFi works fine for me. no weak signals, drop issues. I have the router (ASUS RT-AX86U) in the same room with the UM790Pro and no problems.
No need for an external GPU. The integrated GPU is Radeon 780M. You can play most non-AAA games it if you are a PC gamer. Even AAA games have decent performance.
I use my 64gb um790 pro unit as a DAW (bitwig). It makes no noise at all. Literally nothing. It beats the hell out of my big old tower DAW setup with no clicks and crackles even when running a lot of vst plug ins.
Would like to see a head-to-head between: Minisforum UM790 Pro GMKTech NucBox K4 Beelink GTR7 All with the R9 7940HS (8C/16T, Radeon 780M), 32GB 1TB. Would like to see head-to-head performance, power draw, heat, noise, gaming performance, integrated ports, do they come with Windows pre-installed, etc. And general bang for the buck? They all seem pretty comparable on basic specs: proc/mem/NVMe, etc. Just wondering on the differences, and haven't seen any of them in a head-to-head, tear-down, etc. I'm debating buying one or more of this style of mini-PC to just do stuff like crunching PrimeGrid tasks, and maybe some light gaming. Debating if these will be sufficient for the purpose, or if the integrated graphics, "mobile"-esque chips will be a bottleneck vs. a full PC with dedicated graphics? Or if the bang-for-the-buck is sufficient for the trade-offs.
One thing I'd really like to see in reviews for units with USB4/TB and integrated graphics is the performance with and without eGPU. I'd seriously considering replacing my desktop with one of these if the eGPU performance was on point.
I take mine apart all the time to my surprise the feet still stick on it and they stay on until you really knock them off. I mean, if you’re not careful you lose them but like say you put in a backpack or something so long as you just don’t slide against the side.
If only they would start adding occulink ports to these mini pcs they would be a complete package. Then you could add an external high end egpu by just plugging in the occulink cable without modifying the case and using one of the internal m.2 slots.
Hard to believe that next year (Strix Halo)we will have 16-core Zen5 and 4070-class GPU in this class of hardware. basically %250-%300 better CPU/GPU performance.
Moores law is dead has a terrible track record with leaks and his analysis is poor. Serve the home is a great resource and has real analysis and the two couldn’t be more different
Strix Halo will be awesome if they actually produce it, but smart money says they won't, or it will go in a switch 2 or some proprietary product if they do. Letting consumers get that awesome of a product just isnt how any corporation seems to operate these days, much less AMD.
I am very curious about the other system sitting on the table at 1:20. You mentioned that it will be covered in a future video. I have looked and do not see anything about it.
One thing that bugs me about more than half (from what I’ve seen) of these high end mini PCs is how they put however many USB4 ports they have all on the front with not even one on the back. For all the uses you mentioned, extra monitor, extra network, EGA, power supply (if you power it that way) or extra really fast storage wouldn’t most people prefer to make those connections at the back to keep the cabling out of sight? I know I would. Apart from that this thing looks great.
It's almost like there's a proximity to the CPU limitation or something. Surely it's a coincidence that all USB4 laptops have all of their ports on the same side near the CPU. There's definitely no way at all that it's some kind of signaling limitation.
Planning on potentially changing my home-assistant setup from a RPI4 2gb Looking for a High-performance mini-pc with at most 5-10W power consumption. Any suggestions?
Did you try sticking the Mushkin 48GB SODIMMs from the HP TMM box onto the Ryzen boxes just to see what would happen? The memory controller on the Rembrandt/Phoenixes are said to be limited to 32GB SODIMMs, but AMD are usually pretty good when it comes to being a bit over-spec.
I was able to run the NPB7 with 2 x 48 GB Mushkins. Also, I read two guys made the same successfully experimentation with both UM690 and UM773 Lite. So, I think the UM790 Pro should be also compatible.
Hiya. I am obviously late to the party, but is there any difference between this UM790 model as compared to the less expensive UM780, aside from the very slight clock bump? If note, since I will be Occulinking this to a 7900XTX, that clock bump is essentially irrelevant to me, I think. Arguments against this thought process?
@ServeTheHome I have 3 of the previous Gen UM690s and noticed a peculiarity with the rear USB ports, although all spec'd as USB3.2, the bottom 2x USB ports between the HDMI and the case edge were running at slower speeds than the 2 usb ports between the HDMI and Eth port. The difference was huge, using an astrophotography camera, the fast ports were getting 130fps capture rates and the slower ports were only getting 10FPS. Hopefully this is just a firmware or driver issue, and hopefully doesn't impact the new models.
I have the UM690 since most big cases were because we didn't have a couple of sticks of gum that hold 4TB apiece or IGPs with RSR to do 60fps... I'm hoping we'll se a new model with 7940HS and a 7600M XT\7700S to upgrade the current model with a 6900HX and 6600M...
My only complaint is that the power block. Small case is impressive. But in many industrial setting or use case of such compact PC, large power block is not ideal. Small min-PC with large external power supply block is meaningless. Impressive for reviewers,, but not practical in many field application. They should have used larger enclosure box and included compact power supply in the box. Power supply can be custom designed with space- and heat- efficient high-quality design, to fit in the designed form factor and heat dissipation budget. That will drive up some cost, but worth the cost difference.
Most industrial applications use sealed fanless units though, and I can say we have tons of industrial units with external PSUs because they get rid of an internal fan which is a point of failure.
Does MinisForum fixed the permanent sporadic green or black screen of death? Like it is still not fixed on the Elite HM50 / HM80 series and other U series. MF is not responding to support requests and is not able or willing to fix it.... I would give them this kind of stage here with this bad support... 😕
Is the UM790 pro better than the UM690 regarding the stability? I have an UM690 and it is crashing all the time. It is basically useless. I suggested to the Minisforum support to replace my UM690 with a UM790 pro.

Would I make a leap in quality and performance from the Acer Aspire 5 A515-45-R54J Laptop PC, Notebook, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U Processor that I currently own?
Beelink GTR7 is easier to configure the RAM and SSD. If you know you will be switching parts out every 3 years, then the Beelink GTR7 is better. Less steps to get it done. If you only make one RAM/SSD swap for 5 years, then it is nearly the same.
This or the GTR7 pro? I've an order placed for the miniforum model because of retrocorps review but he made an error and this actually has hdmi 2.1 as it turns out so considering cancelling my order now....since the gtr7 seems to have stronger performance although I preferred the ability to get standalone and order my own ram etc but then I gather we can sell the ram/drive out of the GTR7 anyway perhaps although overall maybe a more expensive purchase at that point hmmmm

Steve, Beelink also introduced a firmware on 6/21 for the GTR7 that lets you select 45w, 54w, 65w for cpu tdp if you want to let it run a bit cooler too!
where is the firmware for Beelink mini pc to be found?
@@zyghom I work with a rep there but you could probably just email their support. Ask for the 6/21 firmware that supports TDP changes and RAID.
Beelink, actually providing updates? Amazing.
The firmware already had an easy way to set TDP without updates...
Totally agree.
They should put a sfp+ cage with the AQC113. You can then choose between 2.5G, 10G, fiber or copper.
Fair warning on the 790 pro:
I've learned that Minisforum doesn't yet have drivers on their site for Windows for this unit yet, and AMD doesn't have graphics drivers out yet either. Just found this out the hard way a couple days ago. Also had a strange white flashing screen issue in Linux, which is likely related to AMD not having drivers for this out yet.
This applies to all mini pcs. AMD is having a ton of problems with their adrenaline drivers
I will wait for a few years to get these min pc
@@lawrenceyeung3381 Then you will face new issues.
Try new BIOS(released today 17.07). White screen issue should be fixed(this issue is in the release notes.)
That 4x10Gb USB + 2xUSB4 really makes this system shine.
No 10gbe, so it sucks...
In 2 years when these hit $300, I’d definitely give this a try.
Great point.
These will make ideal compute clusters at that price point. Drop one of the m.2 in favor of a 10g/25g sfp+..
They don't make big batches and become abandoned ware quickly
It's good for gamers, software programers, video editors, and Office 365 productivity. Very individual focused.
However, it is horrible to roll out to multiple employees in a short time due to difficulty getting to the SSD. Not something an Information Technology team should use at a company.
the same idea
Would love to see three of these with TB to TB (USB4 to USB4) networked in a ring network
First comment and like ! Patrick and the STH team you folks rock - I always enjoy your videos ! Learnt a lot from you all. Thank you so much and best wieshes !!
Ha! Thank you. Congratulations on your first comment! Have an awesome day
Barebones is key. I would never buy something like this without choosing my own SSD and RAM, especially since in a device with only 2 NVME slots I would go 4TB in both.
Excellent Video! Informative, thorough and well produced. You look better in the Blue T-shirt.
This would be an awesome little unit for robotics.
I ordered one. Not 100% what I wanted, but certeinly convincing enough and hopefully available, too.
Nice review, love that we have competition in this space.
Competition is pushing these forward rapidly.
The most unreliable PC I have ever had was from minisforum - I will avoid this company like the bubonic plague.
Thanks i nearly bought 1
Can´t wait for mine to finally arrive in roughly two weeks.
HOW MUCH DO YOU LIKE IT THESE PAST NINE MONTHS I WANT ONE
Holes in the rubber feet woudl be great. But even better if they did a mechanical pop up switch or whatever you call it, like their Deskmini UM350
The Kamrui GK4 16/512 Alderlake I just purchased has been functionally perfectly.
Does anyone know if this motherboard supports ECC memory? I know that unofficially this processor supports the operation of ECC memory, but I don't know about the motherboard. This is a key aspect of buying this device for me
Do they state the mobo model anywhere?
Check out their NPB7. I've been using it for about a month now and it's got the feature/performance/price point I was looking for in a very small package.
Great review!
About to buy that but considering the 790 for gaming
I received this in late July and it's wow!
Would love a 6800U version. I am still loving my Asus PN50 with 4800U, 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD, all in an Akasa Turing case for complete silence.
There are fanless 6800Us tempting me on Aliexpress now, not from Minisforum though.
Whoa! This CPU generations seems to become the broadwell of this decade. Great news c:
AMD Phoenix is VERY good.
@@ServeTheHomeVideo Raptor Lake is not bad either - currently a lot of competition in the market, in the best possible way.
Can't wait for the Ryzen 8000 series. With the extra 4 cores (12C) and 4 extra Compute Units (16 CUs) of RDNA 3.5.
Excellent emulation machine.
Seriously considering buying one of these PC, spec it out to the max and make a home lab for virtualization with Proxmox
Hi, is there anyway you can do a review on the UM PRO 890 with the built in occulink and show currently the best portable eGPU's out there for review??
Hella cool, thanks for the review
I've just bought one today, now it's a year on are there any issues to look out for
These mini pc manufacturers insistence in using the rubber feet to hide the case screws is beyond annoying. It’s like they never listen to their customers.
urh....How often do you open the case?
They still haven't figured out how magnets work 💀
Thank you for this review.
Thank you
@ServeTheHomVideo Silly question, any support onboard for ECC memory?
We did not confirm ECC working beyond the on-chip ECC for DDR5 that is handled by the modules (this is not the same as ECC SODIMMs to be clear.)
This is a very good review. Thank you.
Nicely complete, subscribed, I'd like to see the best of these minis compared to m2 variants including ultra
This PC is s-tier.
This is perfect! Let's see if they introduce a cheaper version with maybe the lower powered U chips, or just Ryzen 7 instead of Ryzen 9. I don't need a mini PC right now but I definitely want this!
They sell this with the Ryzen 9 and Ryzen 7, the choice is yours.
@@kwazie_harry I bought it few weeks ago, so far I dont see a reason to return. Considering I already sold my Beelink I am not returning this one ;-)
Cheers,
Jerry / Tokyo.

No need for an external GPU. The integrated GPU is Radeon 780M. You can play most non-AAA games it if you are a PC gamer. Even AAA games have decent performance.
That's a great review! Would you recommend it to use a home DAW? Or is it too noisy?
I use my 64gb um790 pro unit as a DAW (bitwig). It makes no noise at all. Literally nothing. It beats the hell out of my big old tower DAW setup with no clicks and crackles even when running a lot of vst plug ins.
It's so nice that minisforum keeps sending units to people to review, yet we're still waiting for out two ms-01 after two months since order :/
Would like to see a head-to-head between:
Minisforum UM790 Pro
GMKTech NucBox K4
Beelink GTR7
All with the R9 7940HS (8C/16T, Radeon 780M), 32GB 1TB.
We talked about the UM790 Pro and the GTR7 non-pro in the GTR7 Pro video that came out after this: th-cam.com/video/LciJqD74Mc4/w-d-xo.html
AMD has here a really great APU. Wonder when the AM5 version of it will come? Or we will need to wait for that Halo Strix apu?
One thing I'd really like to see in reviews for units with USB4/TB and integrated graphics is the performance with and without eGPU. I'd seriously considering replacing my desktop with one of these if the eGPU performance was on point.
i wish minisforum does a version with oculink port in addition to the thunderbolt ports
I'm either going to buy UM790 pro or Beelink GTR7 pro to pair with RX6750xt via a ADT m.2 gpu dock. Which would you personally recommend? Cheers👍
Minisforum's form factor, quietness, fast memory are a plus.
Then you could add an external high end egpu by just plugging in the occulink cable without modifying the case and using one of the internal m.2 slots.
new minis 780 xtx have oculink port on backside :D
oh hey, that t-shirt! seeya at SC23, Patrick :)
Ha! See you there
Hard to believe that next year (Strix Halo)we will have 16-core Zen5 and 4070-class GPU in this class of hardware. basically %250-%300 better CPU/GPU performance.
That's using a way higher TDP than this / a nuc sized pc.
Moores law is dead has a terrible track record with leaks and his analysis is poor. Serve the home is a great resource and has real analysis and the two couldn’t be more different
wont happen bro. A moderate Guessstimate would be something like 16 CU´s intstead of 12 and higher clocks. maybe like 3.2GHZ instead of 2.8
Strix Halo will be awesome if they actually produce it, but smart money says they won't, or it will go in a switch 2 or some proprietary product if they do.
Letting consumers get that awesome of a product just isnt how any corporation seems to operate these days, much less AMD.
You sound like the people screeching that Zen 2 would be $89 because it used 1/4 the silicon of the competing $360 Intel CPU.
Looks genuinely fantastic. Especially with option for barebones. This is something I see very rarely and honestly it makes buying it much easier.
So dishonestly it makes buying it more difficult?
That eGPU is so huge I literally thought it was a microwave oven.
Yes. It is GIANT compared to these systems.
Planning on potentially changing my home-assistant setup from a RPI4 2gb
Looking for a High-performance mini-pc with at most 5-10W power consumption.

I would be interested in a definite answer to this too before I order some 😅
Are you clustering?
Thank you!
I happened to order a unit a couple of days ago and I happened to have an EGPU chassis too😂
My only complaint is that the power block.
Yes. It has a cooling fan on the bottom.
ServeTheHome team: is possible to know witch kit and specs are for the retail version [32GB Kingston DDR5-5600 SODIMMs for 64GB] if it was running at 5600 and the cl. I,m running out of my 32gb of ram just browsing and gaming. This video help me to make the decision to buy the um790pro but i never think that i will rimming out of ram.
Did you see a Realtek audio chip on the motherboard when you had it open? I am really interested in what the controller is for the audio.
There is a Realtek Audio Driver (Azalea)
After 1 month using this Minisforum UM790 lost all Audio out. Took screen video recording which played back audio on my Cellphone. Tested my external Logitech speakers on another Labtop and speaker audio was good. Ran Windows Audio Driver Troubleshooting. Says sorry we can't find issue. - Tried to Update Audio Driver. Any suggestions?
Would I make a leap in quality and performance from the Acer Aspire 5 A515-45-R54J Laptop PC, Notebook, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U Processor that I currently own?
Great review! Very thorough. I'm going to mention this to my boss, who is looking for a new computer.
Is the build quality as good as the Beelink GTR7?
Beelink GTR7 is easier to configure the RAM and SSD. If you know you will be switching parts out every 3 years, then the Beelink GTR7 is better. Less steps to get it done. If you only make one RAM/SSD swap for 5 years, then it is nearly the same.
Would love to see a decked out kit running ESXi/Proxmox to see how these function as lower power virtualization hosts.
Like this? th-cam.com/video/HylKpDmwaFA/w-d-xo.html
This or the GTR7 pro? I've an order placed for the miniforum model because of retrocorps review but he made an error and this actually has hdmi 2.1 as it turns out so considering cancelling my order now....since the gtr7 seems to have stronger performance although I preferred the ability to get standalone and order my own ram etc but then I gather we can sell the ram/drive out of the GTR7 anyway perhaps although overall maybe a more expensive purchase at that point hmmmm
did you have to purchase windows operating system license seperate for barebone or windows comes with barebone?
