I went to Jb a few times, I don’t agree the food is better than Singapore, just cheaper. The best food in Malaysia is in KL or Penang, definitely not JB. Yes food is tastier in Malaysia but note Malaysian food tends to be saltier and more unhealthy, difficult to find healthier options like in Singapore.
I dont’t know about JB but when I was staying in KL, national parks there are not safe to walk at, many motorcycle gangs like to gather there. I felt very unsafe even in broad daylight. When I came back to Singapore, the feeling of walking free and safe even at night at parks is something I would never give up

I prefer to retire in SG. Make 1 to 2 day trips per month to JB for a short get away. I don’t think I like to up keep and maintain 2 houses during my retirement. Physically too demanding at old age. I prefer to do more trips to other parts of the world for better experiences than confined just across the causeway.

From rat race to race to causeway race... Life should be peaceful and calm when we reach retirement. What Singaporeans should do to prepare for retirement while accumulating wealth is to reduce excessive, unnecessary desires and expenditures... Plus unnecessary social activities.

It’s not just JB, the whole of Malaysia, except the highlands, is much hotter than Singapore. That’s because their towns and cities have lesser trees and not landscaped. They have less towering buildings as the land is large and widely spaced out. Walking on the streets of Malaysia can really darken your skin. That’s why the Malaysians are more tanned than Singaporeans. The islands like Penang, Tioman, Langkawi are much more scorching hot and I got sun burnt even though I use sunscreens. 😅
In big countries, getting from one place to another is more inconvenient and time consuming if they don’t have MRT. Owning a car is the most efficient way to get around. That’s why most Malaysians drive and you don’t see many people walking on the streets outside the city areas except the silly foreigners! 😅Some Malaysian households have 2-3 cars and motorcycles parked at their porches, as the family prefer to drive around since their cars are way cheaper.
I feel it’s best to retire in your own country if you have lived most of your life in Singapore as nothing beats the familiarity and sense of belonging. Think about the flush of emotions that encompass you on arrival at Changi Airport whenever you return home from your overseas trips. In your heart, you probably chant out “It’s great to be home”. That’s exactly what I mean. This sense of belonging is so comforting and re-assuring. At least, in my own country during my old age, I know I’m going to be well taken care of and enjoy the rights and privileges of my citizenship here. In another country, you’re just a guest, worse, face discrimination even if you may not be aware of! 😅

Usually, people in Malaysia own cars and don't walk around much. Some families have a household income of less than SGD 2,500 per month but still own two Toyota cars, a beautiful landed double-storey house, and have three schooling children, as the cost of living in Malaysia is cheap and salaries are not high.

This is not a well researched or prepared posting.
The subject is "retire in JB". Then he talks about having to negotiate customs and immigration.
Whether one can accept living in JB on retirement (for a Singaporean) depends very much on an individual's personality, character and maturity.
Over eating is not a problem with the cost of living but one's discipline.
Food is a personal preference and taste cultivation over a long time.
Adequate roads and parks are available in most Tamans in JB for walking/jogging provided one doesn't expect linkways between Tamans.
I agree that walking paths are inadequately provided for along most roads. But does anyone want to walk along roads? In the city area one can walk almost anywhere within the city limit.
Another area that I agree with the author is a less than desirable security for property and personnel. However, one can reduce the incidence encountering such experience through intelligent measures in protection, or not attracting unwanted attention.
Having a positive attitude is essential to enjoy living anywhere.

I had started to shuttle between Malaysia and Singapore (staying a few months in each place each time) since about 3 years ago. It is not sustainable based on my personal experience; too tiring and one cannot commit long term to some activity/plan in each place.

Of all the cities in Malaysia KL is the coolest, cooler by 1.5 - 2 degrees celcius compared to other towns and cities due to big greenery, lakes and parks.
People mostly walk or exercise in the gym because all condos and stratified landed homes have gym facilities. For outdoor, people walk in the park in the early morning or late evening when it is not hot and sunny.
Food can be controlled. Now, young people are very health conscious and eat heathily. Plenty of fruits and vegetables.
For Christians not much of a problem. It is big social circle in the church. For Buddhist it will be with group of senior citizens who exercise daily every morning in the park.
MM2H visa is more complicated and expensive:
There are 56,000 active pass holders from MM2H. Not a huge participants:
    China - 24,765 (44%)
    Australia - 9,265
    South Korea - 4,940
    Japan - 4,733
    Bangladesh - 3,604
    UK - 2,234
    Taiwan - 1,000
    US - 1,000
    India - 1,000
    Singapore - 1,000
Safety, no other countries can match.

    1) JB could feel hotter because of vast land, low-rise buildings, shopping malls, houses all widely spread out over. Whereas sg with lots of closely highrise buildings with air-conditioning all over. Lots of highrise buildings also block out the sunlight and feels cooler. Also mostly with green around and covered walkways.
    2) Retirement in JB is very subjective. It's up to individual/family preference, situations, needs, choices and wise decisions.

Most people in Singapore are limited in ability. The only way they know how to get the best of both worlds is to be near or within Singapore to do work to generate income and then hastily go to the nearest cheapest place aka johore to live and stretch their dollars. That is sign of limited ability.
A truly capable businessman can live very far away from where their business is operating and still have no problem and worries at all. If those harebrains are able to do this they will realise the world have so much spots to explore when it come to settling down and retirement living.
Unfortunately they cant. They always cant. The ability limit and ceiling is always there within themselves.

JB is not even as mature as Ipoh, Perak (chinese town) who have lots of food eateries as Singapore and mature in every residential towns connected with MRT city rail convenience. Its a cultural mix Malays and Chinese and many public facilities are not culturally build ideally for Chinese but for Malays and area to one area is far and all citizens have to drive. But grocer wise a win situation, cheaper. And in terms of public security is not as best compare to Singapore. I disagree when you comparing the difference of the weather. I have travel both Singapore and Johor don't feel any differences.

Singapore cools its city through a combination of innovative strategies that go beyond greenery and shaded walkways. Green buildings, district cooling systems and employs smart urban design to enhance natural airflow. Light-colored surfaces are used extensively to reflect heat, while water features and cool pavements help regulate temperatures. Additionally, Singapore reduces car dependency by prioritizing public transport, cutting down on emissions and heat from vehicles. Despite these efforts, many still complain and prefer JB.

    1. Higher Temperature in Johor actually Toughens up the Human Body, to adapat to the Global Warming Trend. Massive Exposure to Air-Conditioning most likely have made softies out of Many.
    2. Over-Order of Food shows tha Person's Lack of Self-Control,..of Greedy-after-"Drought"...
    3. No Such Thing as, "Best". Every One's Situation IS Different, Therefore, Solutions Shall be Different.
    4. Crime is depending on One's Insensitivity to Dangerous Areas. Knowing How sensitive our Neighbour is, such Public Rants about "Crime" shows perhaps, lack of Cultural Emphathy and the world-Famous, "Singkie Arrogance-from-Ignorance"
Social Media such as Mr Loo's Posts, may be unknowingly Dangerous, because Mr. Loo only knows a small perspective of the Bigger Situation, and the Bigger Population of Ignorant, Shallow-Minded follow blindly / or without thinking throughly.
Everybody now is playing the game of trying to be influencial....No Qualifications need, only that of persuasive Abilities.
If my Memory is Correct, Mr. Loo Over-Paid for the Mount Austin House, and Renovated with designs that is not Naturally Environmental Cooling.....which gives Loo the Feelings of "Hotter".
Does Loo dare to reveal the Building Defects that pops up, after the "Renovation" ?
From the perspectives of Well-Frog-Singkies, these Monetary Figures may seem "Cheap" from the SGD Perspective, BUT from the Local Johorian or Msian, Perspective,..such would be, .."Stupid Ignorant, Loud-Mouthed Foreigner Over-Paying,... which Pushes up incumbent Local's Living Costs.."
Why Move out of SG,.. to struggle with the Infamous Traffic Jams at Tebrau Highway,..Proximity of Mount Austin,..to live in a Gated Estate which is also suspected managed by Power-Abusive Property Managers,.. and end up in a Prison, which is disguised as an Estate ?
    Conclusion:
Be Considerate, Empathetic of Singapore's Surrounding Sovereigns, Societies, Culture.
It's OK to Retire in JB, Johor or anywhere else, so long as we refrain from the Dogmatic Singaporean Mentality...and Please Stop sounding like "we are smarter.."
    P.S.
Why in SG when Flats are getting Smaller,..Cars are Getting Bigger ?
Can most Singkies really handle such high-Powered Cars Skillfully ?
