Glen, probably frothing at the mouth wishing someone like this would walk into his studio... Or at least someone who would learn their parts before hand instead of wasting his time.
Honestly, im blown away. I didnt think that my favorote song could be made better. The song sounds MUCH better with the bass higher in the mix. Wow. I just compared the audio here to the song on the album and the bass is almost inaudible in some parts of the song. You would never have known that these incredible lines existed if not for this video. Well done Robin. Keep on being one of the best bass players out there
It would be nice to know how much influence Malone had on Robin - both phenomenal players :) juts curious cause that opening pattern sounds inspired from The Veil Of Maya.
Everything about this song is incredible. As expected, on the album Robin's ghost notes are buried underneath the rest of the instruments, so I love hearing them here. Definitely in the top 3 Exivious tracks for me.
Google is your friend. That, and the "Players" page on the Wyn guitars website says the following: "He plays a Wyn Ziricote 5 string fretless equiped with Nordstrand Dual Coils and a Graphtech Piezo."
Gotta be - roundwounds will chew through a wooden fretboard in no time. Not to mention they're that much brighter in sound, which some might argue would "go against the point".
Anyone know what sort of effects/processors are being used here? Really love how mellow the B string is compared to the "twangyness" of the higher strings.
David Krider I have the same doubt, I think it's the octavation of those strings. They are very near to the wood and produce such "wahwn" sound when played far from the bridge. May be, may be not just Robin knows...
Some of it may be down to the string gauges, a LOT of it's down to the touch, a considerable amount are the pick-ups, and the on-board active EQ / tone controls might affect things considerably as well... And all that's "only" up until the bass guitar's output jack :P

Beautiful playing! Bravo, sir!

I really miss the 2009 Exivious...this album is a perfect mix of what i like
You're not alone! I miss it too!
Cynic-Focus influence. Really good!
Well Robin and Tymon did play in Cynic for a bit, maybe it rubbed off on them ;)
And Portal
BassHeadJazz have you checked their 2001 demo?
That's why I liked it when I first heard this album and specially this song! it reminded me of the Focus Album

Guillermo Lescano lol he is bald also
@@IshaiTamir bald? Or "fretless"?
Bold or bald. It's both!
I THINK I'M GOIIING BALD
Something I revisit over and over again. Absolutely gorgeous!
This is so amazing I watched it 3x in a row. Tone, phrasing, accuracy - this is so next-level. Respect.
I really wish Exivious wouldn't have ended. I discovered them too late. They had already broken up when I discovered them. Robin is SUCH A BEAST!
Fellow bassist and active performer here wanting to say your playing is inspiring. Thanks for ripping it up good sir!
I am very fan D'EXIVIOUS dommage que l'ont n'ait plus de nouvelles de se super groupe génial.
Great playing and technique, all of the video was amazing, the face in the end was like WTF?? but the rest of it was great!
OUTSTANDING!!! One of my favourite bass tone ever..
Such beautiful tone 12/10.
That just might be the coolest bass I've ever seen
I like this metal progresive really a good job congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!

And those hands.
It would be nice to know how much influence Malone had on Robin - both phenomenal players :) juts curious cause that opening pattern sounds inspired from The Veil Of Maya.

Miss you guys

Great player!! Congratulations!
Mind-twisting good. Sort of most-satisfying-video stuff.
Superb! So accurate, and this tone... wow.

Idk why I’m just now getting recommended this but fun stuff 👍
Awesome!!!
This guy is talented beyond belief.
Et la bass est tout simplement magnifique
Awesome 👍
Great to hear you gonna play with NeO! Best wishes!
One of the best players in the world
So good, reminded me of Sean Malone from Cynic
what bass is that?
It's a Wyn zericote 5 string fretless.
That ebony fretboard does all the magic
Daaaamn good stuff!!
Awesome tone!
amazing
Sounds so cool. Does anyone know if fretless is much more difficult to learn than regular bass?
kinda weird to get used to, but definitely not harder, I have played fretless for a year now and it's fucking awesome, even made my guitars fretless
Damn, I need to consider getting one and learning
Yes. It is considered to be much more difficult.
You're my bass hero right now :)
BRILLIANT
Astonishing sound! What woods and pickups are in this bass?
Google is your friend. That, and the "Players" page on the Wyn guitars website says the following: "He plays a Wyn Ziricote 5 string fretless equiped with Nordstrand Dual Coils and a Graphtech Piezo."
Killer!
wooooooooooooooooooooooow!
where did you get those nuclear-bionic fingers??!!! I guess eons of playing..
just beautiful ;)
if you don't mind what kind of strings are those and the gauge
It's DR MR5-130s
🤘Bravissimo
nice job man!
That Eden Amp tho 👌
Nice instrument!
Definitely hear some Sean Malone influence. Great stuff.
as a huge dominic lapointe fan I enjoyed this so much. well written and executed!
What make / model is this bass please?
Maestro
Sick bassline!
Brutal!!
Where can I find that bass?
www.wynguitars.com (Y)
@@RobinZielhorstThank you,mate!!!
Keep the groove.
It feels like the strings on the bass are spaced wider than normal, i have a 6 string bass, and the neck on his looks wider than on mine...
What manufacturer made this bass ?
Bravo
flatwounds?
Gotta be - roundwounds will chew through a wooden fretboard in no time. Not to mention they're that much brighter in sound, which some might argue would "go against the point".
Nope, roundwounds. They don't eat into the fretboard too bad, and I prefer the sound and feel of roundwounds.
Whaddya know, the man himself!.. :)
@@RobinZielhorst You are such an inspiration, please tell me what pedals you're using to get that mwaaah bubble?
@@PriZeMaN1 no effects, it's the tone of the fretless making that mwaaah sound.

There’s no effects, that’s how fretless basses sound. Play one sometime.
sick bass man I love camouflage
Veil of Mayaaaa...
I am not a huge fan of the fretless bass sound... usually. This one sounds absolutely gorgeous. Warm and yet lively
I know it's unlikely and maybe futile to ask but a playthrough of a new NeO song or two would be REEEEEEEEALLY cool tbh :)
The guy is playing great stuff and people are asking equipment questions. : /
Like getting the same equipment would get you closer to his skills ;)
Vsauce michael here
Excellent?
that ending
This is insanely good. If I didn't know differently, and someone just told me to listen to this, I would say this is Cynic.
+Dakota Hawkins Well he was in Cynic, along with the lead guitarist for Traced in Air haha
Learn something new every day.
Vet!
Who makes that pickup? Is it a dual coil?
Google is your friend. That, and the "Players" page on the Wyn guitars website says the following: "He plays a Wyn Ziricote 5 string fretless equiped with Nordstrand Dual Coils and a Graphtech Piezo."
1:40 So beautiful
Wtf, haven't I seen this already?

It was out of sync before
