    I loved his acknowledgement of the pianist at the end that was truly a group effort. Almost more like a duet than flute and accompaniment. BRAVO So much life and drama (just like the opera)

      @@alexanderbelov6892 He is still so much better.I am a flutist and I always do the same mistake.I can understand.You sometimes can not control your breath.And pianist's mistake worse than his.

    I don't envy the pianist... She has to follow his every whim and her name isn't even mentioned! But her little mistake is noticed immediatly!

      We noticed pahud's mistakes immediately too, so obviously he's the main attraction don't be so upset. You got to learn your role

    je revois un peu Marion dans cet enregistrement. J'aime bien Pahud car son son est débarassé de tout superflu. Il est naturel.

    Came here from galways performance after reading some comments saying this was superior to galway. After listening I can truly say some people are just biased about recognizing galway as the superior musician. I mean obviously they both are top notch, but galway had it so much better in my opinion.

      Tbail1138 Galway and Pahud are 30 years apart and I think it's not fair to compare them just like that. It's like comparing Metallica with Beatles.

    • @Tbail
      @Tbail 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      W und M music also is timeless and skill also. So genuine skill that is good now will be good 30 years from now. I don't think time should diminish a good performance.

      @MrOncucar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But you didn't compare a specific performance, but both musicians' total quality of performing (quote: -Galway had it much better off) In order to do that, you must compare the complete ability to fullfill and perform each their own understanding of music, which is quite impossible to measure at any level. The real danger here is the fanaticism that sees itself as the judge of beautiful. Sir James Galway is more than a great musician, he's a great salesman, too. And this brand-like personality often causes a partisan view of aesthetics, which blends people's ears so that they can't find anything else beautiful. Sure it's sometimes the case with Pahud fans also. Both are great musicians, both are very important flutists in western classical genre, period. I personally wouldn't dare to call one better than another. Just that you think something is beautiful doesn't make its performer "better", because some other guy can come and say that it's ugly. We could discuss aesthetics, but there's no point to turn this into a rat race.

    • @Tbail

      W und M gotcha. I completely agree that music is personal on an intimate level for everyone and obviously taste, style, nurture and etc play a large part into what many deem beautiful. Since this is a public forum, inciting listeners to post opinions, I felt obliged to take full use of the "post your comments" option and do just that. So while you might not like that fact that I posted Galway is better and made strides to show the futility of elevating one above the other, you failed to realize that personal opinion and taste are exactly what the comment section is for! So while I agree with your assertion, I disagree with your application.

      W und M and I did compare performances by saying I came to this particular performance from galways performance if the same piece. I figured the implication was obvious.

    In this performance his bass notes sound ugly as his flute was cold or something...this used to happen to us...flutists with our flutes and their issues...

    I really like Pahud, especially his elegant interpretations of Mozart. But for this piece please listen to PAULA ROBISON. She is unsurpassable in this interpretation, such commuciation through music. This is not Pahud at his best, too much haste. He does have a fabulous interpretation of Syrinx, though.

    i think only female flutists should play this piece ..remember carmen is a very sexy lady in the opera =) just kididing when ever i listen to habanera from a male flute player i smile a bit =) as a flute player and a mezzo soprano ..he plays very good tho

      When he cracked the note he glared at the pianist as though it was her mistake.
