Game show fans may recognize Johnny Gilbert as the announcer. When the show switched from NBC to ABC in 1963, Don Pardo chose to stay with the Peacock Network. Ironically, Pardo would soon become the announcer on the original "Jeopardy!", a job Johnny has had now for 40 years.
He was a monologist, famous for telling stories about his childhood on the Lower East Side, his days as a teacher, and observations about daily life. He was a regular panelist on "THIS IS SHOW BUSNESS" (1949-'56), appeared on Ed Sullivan's show numerous times, and substituted for Herb Shriner on "TWO FOR THE MONEY" (eventually becoming its host fot the final season), and involved on a lot of Goodson-Todman's game shows as a panelist and celebrity contestant.
