I was so hyped for this but man it didn’t do much for me. I liked it but it just wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. Many horror movie reviewers said it was disturbing and scary but it wasn’t any of that. Hereditary was way better in terms of disturbing .

I'm glad to hear others saw it as a dark comedy as well. I was underwhelmed also; thought it was WAY overhyped. But, for what it was (a dark comedy), it's worth watching. Beautiful cinematography, great acting, top-tier sound design, etc. So much going for it, but such a predictable let-down. I almost walked out not because it is "the most terrifying movie of the decade," but because it was ultimately kind of boring, and supremely mismarketed. Although it was surprising, listening to a full theatre gasp time and again over scenes that were already told to us within the first twenty minutes. I was hoping 'Longlegs" was going to subvert my expectations; it did nothing but confirm them. I'll take 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'Hereditary' over this minutiae of the genre any day. Just stick to the trailers/teasers; they are far more frightening and satisfying than the movie as a whole. At least I got a cool souvenir from the theatre/studio for a pre-release showing 🤷🏽‍♂️ That being said, it was a decent movie overall. I just think It would have been better if it wasn't marketed as "terrifying" and "horrific" because it was neither of those.

I honestly think that all of the best horror flicks leave people in emotions they don't know what to do with. Every young person laughing and making dumb comments on Nic Cages performance and constant comments being yelled about the characters and the plot. Been looking forward to this one for a while so glad to hear that it sounds pretty solid. I would definitely recommend checking out The Blackcoat's Daughter, James-- kind of reminiscent of creepy 70s horror in a good way. I liked Gretel and Hansel but IMO Blackcoat's Daughter is Perkins' best to date.
Btw did you beat Shadow of the Erdtree yet? If so, what did you make of the final boss etc? Just about to start my second venture into the DLC. Hopefully I can avoid cocking up a couple of the NPC quest lines I bungled by getting to the Shadow Keep too early the first go round.

The review I have been waiting for.
I am very hopeful for Longlegs to jive with me soon when I see it. If there is one thing I genuinely love in film and TV is dark, absolutely fucked serial killer horror thrillers like Mindhunter, True Detective S1, Silence of the Lambs, Zodiac, and Seven- we just never see it done right.
I wasn’t huge on The Blackcoat’s Daughter. It did some things right but everything else in the writing just felt like it kept telling me over and over “oOoH this is so fucked, right?”. Regardless, I could see Perkins potential as long as he reigned himself in more on the shock factors.
I hope this is the one where that potential I saw is now realized.
Very excited to hear Monroe killed it. I always thought she was super underrated. I heard she took inspiration from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for this and that makes me very excited to hear.

The "Silence of the Lambs" procedural was when it was at its weakest, in my opinion, though there were good shocks, great atmosphere, and Nicolas Cage was unforgettably creepy. I agree though, I'd like to see it again. There's too much to love, so I can't help but feel as though I missed something more so than the film.
