Here's a thought. Maybe "The Mandalorian" in the title wasn't meant to be an individual? It's the race. Maybe the overall idea had been to have a number of full story arcs that featured several Mandos, with overlapping interactions. Each one will end up having having a "book" (legendary story?) about them. Maybe we just finished the 16 chapter "The book of Din Djarin". Perhaps, the next the focus is on Boba? We'll see chapters with Din and Bo interacting with Boba as they try to build the forces necessary to return to Mandalore. After all, if he's just taken over Hutt space, he'll have a lot of resources they might want. They could also bring in many other Mandos and continue this trend for quite some time.
Remember that Mando is now King of Mandalore with the Darksaber in hand, Bo Katan has to claim it in some fashion and also Ahsoka is looking for Thrawn in the hopes to find Ezra. December 2021 is going to be AMAZING!
The book of Boba Fett is Boba Fett show that they're coming out with next year in December. The Mandalorian is a different show entirely. Boba fett will not be the main character of the Mandalorian. Din Djarins storyline will continue

The way I've been hearing it. Book of mando was series 1&2, book of boba fett next. All leading up to something and I wouldn't be surprised if book of bo katan is after boba. They ALL are 'the mandalorian' in a sense. The question is if din is in.

Boba is an absolute unit.
My guess is The Book of Boba Fett will be a Disney+ movie rather than a series next December. 90 minutes or so to progress Boba’s story a bit more. Whatever it turns out to be, it’s a great time to be a Boba Fett fan.
Mando season 3 is definitely not going to be just about Boba, I think it'll be a limited series airing at same time similar to Kenobi and Ahsoka shows. Mando's arc is far from over, given that he has just accidentally claimed the darksaber and can technically claim the Mandalorian throne.
