I am considering in looking to buying the cello in the future but the direction to which the strings are tuned seems symmetrically disturbing to the aesthetical nature of the others, would It not make more sense for it to be tuned in perfect 5th from left to right as to make bowing make more sense.

Looks like a congenital defect, features consistent with lack of neural crest cells in the branchial arches. Honestly extremely impressive they are able to play so well as normally failure of the ossicles to develop is also an issue being neural crest derived in arches 1 and 2, so normally people have conductive hearing loss.
