Making Etta's Place with the Creality Falcon2 22w Laser Cutter Engraver | Pt 1

- Ever wonder how a laser cut structure gets designed and turned into buildable parts? Then this is the video for you! I've been provided with a new Creality Falcon2 22w Laser Cutter/Engraver for review and put it right to work on a new structure build. I wanted to see if I could get the same quality laser cut parts from this lower cost machine that I've become accustomed to with my 50w Co2 laser cutter. Follow along as I take "Etta's Place" from a rough sketch to a stack of precision parts ready to build! Along the way, we'll cover design software like Adobe Illustrator and the Lightburn laser driver. Over the next couple videos, I'll be documenting the entire process using this machine and giving you my honest assessment of it as a useful tool for hobbyists.
Note: The honeycomb, stainless steel consumables, roller, and protective cover are NOT INCLUDED with the Creality Falcon2 as it comes "In the Box." HUM..... We had a chance to get one of these a few months ago.... I think we should have grabbed it!!! I figured a solid state could never do this!!! WOW!!
It worked better than I expected. Now I mainly use it for cutting shingles!
Okay, just finished watching>>> WOW.. More impressed than ever. Friends and I have been sending out files to a person with a HUGE CO2 laser. Really no need it seems. Wonder about the life span of the laser and cost.
@@ToyManTelevision In the 3rd video in this series I give my final thoughts on this machine and how it compares to my CO2 - cost, value, etc. It is a good machine for hobbyists that want something that will work right out of the box. It does need a few safety upgrades in my opinion though.
@@ThunderMesaStudio I need to follow up on these. Seems like good bang for the buck. But not if it fails right away. And if there are safety issues….. we’ll that’s a deal breaker.

I'd like to see more on how you design your buildings for laser cutting. I have a glowforge and my wife and I want to build a Christmas village with trains.
I have trouble with being a perfectionist and wanting to model every detail versus picking what can be simplified.
I have owned a commercial New Hermes 25 watt laser since 1998. I have cut a ton of stuff......making model car parts for a number of years. But now the Co2 cart is failing and fixing the machine is about the cost of this machine you tested. The HD New Hermes commercial mechanical parts are still rock solid......anybody have ideas on a fix that is more reasonable??? Thanks !!!
I noticed the two issues you raised as you were using the machine. I can understand the way that the height is set -- doing it another way might involve a stepper motor and more expense. The framing is a bigger deal because of the potential waste; that and the potential to get it wrong in trying to *avoid* the waste! Question: is the lack of any hold down typical of laser cutters? I'm used to CNC routers (X-Carve) where you have lots of tooling to hold the material flat.
Yes, the lack of hold downs is typical of most laser cutters. It’s less of an issue with Co2 machines because the lens is usually higher above the work (they actually use a series of mirrors to bring the beam from the laser tube which is usually located in the back). Diode lasers ride directly above the work and that makes them more susceptible to coming into contact with materials, especially if they are at all warped.

Do you have to do anything different for clapboard?
Not really, just make sure the claps are going the right way and it should cut the same as plain basswood of the same thickness.
Took me a second look to get the significance of the name from the title.
Crap Company, you do NOT want to buy from them. I ordered the Creality Falcon2 40 watt. Bundle. You are so lucky to get your engraver. They sent me all the accessories and marked it as "Everything shipped" but the Engraver was NEVER given to FedEx. I cannot get a hold of anyone at Creality to assist in any way at all in getting my engraver. I am being ignored. Even though I don't have my engraver the bundle I bought is now selling for 130 dollars less than what I paid for it. When I mentioned this to the support agent who didn't fix my issue at all offered me a 10 dollar coupon.
And I still have NO indication I will EVER get my engraver.
Watched the video but had to turn off the sound the get rid of that crap background music.....its a laser burning vid not a dance routine.
