I ate at the LEGENDARY Chef's Restaurant - Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester

- In this video, we visit the Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester.
He was the first chef to have 3 restaurants with 3 michelin stars at the same time.
Today, he is the second most decorated chef in the world with 21 stars.
His name and fine dining go hand in hand.
The question is:
With so many restaurants, is it possible to maintain the quality at such a high level?
Or is it just his name slapped on the sign?
Find out in this episode of Alexander the Guest.

My name is Alexander. I’m the co-owner of a ONE Michelin star restaurant, and I’m on a mission - to find inspiration in gastronomy. I love fine dining, good wine and sharing what I know with other people.
Check out my restaurant:

It was a pleasure to swap champagne with you, but yours was nicer!
I was kicking myself after for not properly saying hello and perhaps asking for a photo. I'll have to come to your restaurant instead and hope you're in
It was I who sent him the champagne, not you! Thank you, Alexander. Pleasure meeting you.
@@nak5eno616no I'M Spartacus!
I'd prove it if I could! I'm the fat, bald bearded fellow with the long black haired chap behind him in certain shots 🙂
@@user-ui6sl4ve7j The fat, bald bearded fellow is my husband and I am the lady sitting next to him... Stop lying! Alexander, my husband says hi ❤
@@papiculo5043 I can confirm, i was the champagne bottle!
Nice that you met subscribers! And classy way to return the gesture :)
I was waiting for this one!
I saved up for a year to take my wife for our 1st wedding anniversary and it was excellent. She had recently become pregnant, and they bent over backwards to accommodate all the nuances around what food you can't eat while pregnant, as well as her nut allergy.
If the food wasn't great (it was), the service would have more than made up for it.
Now that we have the baby (11 months old tomorrow), I won't be able to afford Michelin star food any time soon so will have to live vicariously through your videos 😅
Wife clearly not allergic to nut 🤨
As a fellow new Dad: Happy 11 monthsary

The reason I love this channel so much is he is absolutely honest about every dish. So many channels just "love" everything no matter what. He actually reacts honestly. If he doesn't care for something as much he says so and exactly why, if he loves it, it's clear that he does genuinely. This is what you want in a channel like this!
Bravo for blurring the customers' faces. Sadly this respecting of others' privacy is very seldom seen in vlogs on youtube but I appreciate your consideration and taking the time to do it.
Why do you assume other vloggers don't get permission to post peoples faces? It would be illegal and not worth the risk if they did....
We used to go here 4 or 5 times a year when they only had 2 stars - absolutely fantastic, with a 3 course lunch menu with 2 glasses of wine, water, tons of pre starters and tons of petit fours, for…….£45!
What a stunning price increase over less than 10 years.
Yes! I did this as well! It was outstanding value, but those days of a 50 quid lunch are long gone I'm afraid 😢
Those were the days! I remember lunch at Gordon Ramsay with 3 stars for £45 a head with all the extras you'd expect as well, lunch at Dinner when it was just open for similar. There's still some lunch bargains to be had (Murano, Elystan Street amongst others) but it's not like it used to be.
I also remember a dinner bed and breakfast at Lords of the Manor when they had a Michelin star: 7 courses, bottle of wine, glass of champagne each to start, bed and quality breakfast. It was less than £400. I looked recently and the same thing is now nigh on £800. The price of fine dining has gone insane that last decade.
Yeah, it really has skyrocketed at the upper end of the spectrum for fine dining.
This restaurant's tasting menu used to be £215 a year ago; it jumped from that to £285 overnight.
Plenitude, in Paris, cost around €330 two years ago for their Symphony tasting menu. It is now €475.
That's why I'm trying to knock out most the top places on my bucket list within the next year or so, who knows how expensive it will be five-ten years from now?
My god the production of this video is stellar, the songs used, the depth of the "documentary", the transitions are just excellent
I would say GREAT job but "GREAT" doesn't even begin to describe the quality of this video
Alexander (and/or his team) never miss.
Alexander does probably the best restaurant reviews on youtube
I don't know why but hearing the levels of Wagyu from F1 to F4 and then hearing that the menu called for F2 is so refreshing. Just because something is more expensive doesn't mean it'll fit well with the rest of the dish.
I'm pretty sure that if the chef could he would. It's more that actual F3-4 wagyu barely leaves japan.
Agree.
@@bacchus8081 I live in Japan. There is no “F” wagyu here. Pure bred Wagyu is A1 to A5. It’s true that A5 wouldn’t be a match for all dishes because it is so incredibly fatty. It melts in your mouth but it’s not red meat. Personally I prefer beef that is predominantly red meat with marbling rather than fat marbling that takes up more than 50% of the cut. A2 to A3 is best if you want to eat steak rather than something that is more akin to Foie Gras.
@@bacchus8081 I'm sorry but you are wrong. money buys everything.
@@user-iw7up4ul5v That's not an argument. Restaurant's can't throw infinite money too get the regular deliveries of meat required to actually put it on the menu. They have a bottom line aswell.
I just ordered 2 pitas for 20 bucks imma enjoy them while watching this
I 'member when Pitas cost under 5€ each
What is a pita?
Krug, sponsor the man already.
If you want a Vesper, why not go to the Dukes' Bar about a mile away from the Dorchester? This is where the Vesper was invented by Fleming, and Alessandro Palazzi and his team serve an awesome version of this cocktail today. Highly recommended!
I can't get enough of this content. Please continue FOREVER
Yes! California trip must mean The French Laundry is coming soon! I can't wait for you to try my favorite restaurant.
Thanks for this video! Been waiting for this review for some time.
Just finished binging all your videos, amazing timing for a new one! Awesome as always!
It’s a shame the channel isn’t older because this content is so well made, and I want more!
Incredibly videos, I'm excited to see which restaurant is next!
I have been to Alain Ducasse At The Dorchester a few times and it is amazing! Highly recommended!
Your videos are inspired by Fleming. Shaken Not Stirred. Marvellous experience
Ill probably never eat at these places but i love living vicariously through you because of these videos. Bravo!
Amazing as always, Nice one Sanyi
These videos always make my day. High quality content right here.
I was expecting april fools joke but it was serious video 😅
Can't make a april fool video when you all about that high class and no plebian humour
Been following you since you were under 10K subscribers and still here for the ride! Another banger of an episode sir!
Love the videos so much! I went here ages ago about a month before they got their third star and it was great then as well. I'd love to see you do longer videos with more detail about each course.
Now this video achieves a new level - great phrasing, great flow of commentary, great background infos and the production quality has improved even further that tiny crucial notch - grande!
Fantastic as always ❤
As a native Californian, I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Alexander the guest featuring Guga foods? Collab incoming yes maybe?
Please do it.
So glad you guys changed the outro song! Alexander's photo popping up on the word "stupid" always made me chuckle
Very excited to see your dinning experiences in California. Great work on this one.
Amazing as always.
I really really enjoy your videos, but it starts to cost me a lot because now, I go to more restaurant than I used to.
I didn't specially planned trips to Paris and Copenhagen, but the videos about Plénitude and Alchemist were too amazing so ....
You are really living the life I dream of, enjoy !
It would be great to have your review on Le Pierre Gagnaire because it was a restaurant that stunned me by it's proposition, meaning not going for the tasting menu but choosing a "Pierre Gagnaire Universe", amazing experience !!!
I swear Alain Ducasse is one of, if not the most active and enterprising restauranters in the world.
Amazing experience, thanks 🥂🍾Krug 👌🏼
9:55 for someone not crazy about veggies, I want those! They look so yum!
Hi Alexander, love your channel. What did you think of the Guigal d’Ampuis 2018? More comments in the wines would be a fun addition. Thanks for all your work!
Wasn't expecting Guga to make a cameo.
Really Alexander, you are the best! This channel should blow up!
Pretty cool that the big man was there on the night.
I went quite some time ago (was still 3*) and it was a giant let down saved only by the baba. Maybe I should give it another shot.
I loved this video. Really like the restaurant. Love that interior design. Less IS more! The food and wine looked amazing. Love a staff too that also has a sense of humor. Not so strict/snobbery.
Not me watching this whilst eating a frozen pizza
At that price, I
We visited Alain Ducasse at dorchester to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from law school in 2015. It was perhaps one of the worst meals we have had. The fish actually reeked of ammonia , a clear sign that it has gone bad. I accompanied my wife to the restroom for her to rinse her mouth. The other dishes were also forgettable. But beige by AD in Tokyo and Spoons by AD in Hong Kong were both enjoyable. AD has opened recently in singapore and I am still too afraid to try.
i met marion twice before ,,, she is the best
So cool that you have met a fan of yours.
Hey you’re gonna be in Cali!!! If you have the drive and want to take a trip, Northern Oregon in Wine country has a restaurant called Okta, Michelin hsnt debuted up here but it may be a joint you want to stop by
Would love if you went to the French Laundry, I plan on going soon. I went to Addison since I live in SD but personally I was a bit let down and I think there are better options here
You are the Michelin guide to the Michelin guide.
Excellent meal, you definitely won't leave this restaurant hungry, with so many starters, main courses and desserts and so it should be at €3500 for 3 people? 😂
best yt channel
I’m just one minute in, but wow the editing on the intro is phenomenal on this episode!! Legit Netflix quality
love how you just quickly mention 2 x subscribe..keep that up..dont ever make it longer or more, this is good enough
I do love this restaurant. The staff have been wonderful each time I've been. The food is pretty good too (in a classic way - though not the most innovative)
WowDucasse in the restaurant !! Amazing
you are my new fav youtuber hehe
Ohh my goodness I know how to cook food. But this Chef is like he Read My Mind and then went a level Beyond!!!
Wow, amazing. Looks so delicious.
I tried that chateau d’ampuis at pic in valence as a magnum. incredible wine!
Alexander, if TH-cam reviewers were given Michelin stars, you'd undoubtedly be the only three-star reviewer!
Looking forward to your visit to California as it is my home.
The very beginning of the video reminded me of that song off of that Thomas Dolby album Aliens Ate My Buick. The key to Your Ferrari...
I hope that one day you will visit Bottigleria 1881 in Cracow, Poland. Would be a nice touch as youre based from Hungary. And theyre Krug embassy just to tell you! 😅
Steirereck in Vienna/Austria would be interesting :)
I really enjoy the atmosphere, information and critics of the channel. I just have one recommendation, you have a lot of "moving" in your live scenes, for more detail and smoothness I would recommend to film in 60fps.
Day 1: commenting on Alexander the guest video to make a one-off video for Krug
Hello Alex! If you are coming to California you definitely don’t want to miss visit Carmel by the sea, small beautiful coastal town.
Come eat at Chez Noir to taste some of the best ingredients we have in the Monterey peninsula!
Great content
Really interested to see what you think of the California restaurants. I really hope you’re going to San Diego to dine at Addison.
We would love to see you visit The French Laundry. BT 🇨🇦
I think Nick Mullen made the best, albeit unintentional summary of fine dining when joking about the writing staff of Friends and what they were ordering for lunch
Damn, keep up the good work. What’s your travel and food budget for a year?
Probably €50,000 per year.
@@Bragglordway too slim
Love this channel. Please do eleven Madison park❤❤❤
He has! th-cam.com/video/gh-0fA55DM8/w-d-xo.html
I love this channel
Very fun to see a Guga clip in the video
Was gonna say, I also spotted that lol
I want to see a video with Guga testing wagyu in a 3 star restaurant :)
When it’s April first and you see a thumbnail with 21 Michelin stars
🤨
hahahaha
Just watched the 12k orient express before this and have to day for 3.5k including the special wines, that doesn't seem like a bad deal. It would have to be a once in a lifetime thing for me but I could be persuaded for a special experience like that
I really like your channel and i did not miss a show yet. Although, naturally a question came, how is possible you do not explore the italian couisine ?
I have my eye on this place for my retirement celebration party!
Suit 10/10 !
Love this restaurant go a couple of times a year . The staff are outstanding professionals but very friendly and we always enjoy a good chat . They make an effort to know our likes and dislikes and the food never fails!
Are you going to try Helene Durroze at the connaught??
I've eaten in both and Darroze at the Connaught is inferior in every way to Ducasse/Dorchester (in my opinion).
Ducasse's Rivea at the Bulgari Hotel, Knightsbridge was actually more enjoyable for me as an overall dining experience, such a shame it closed
nice video i always get hungry when watch yours video that's why i am eating salmon pasta
Do you plan on visiting Alinea in Chicago anytime soon?? I love this restaurant the chef is a genius. I'd love to hear your opinion.
I would love to see you review Les Grands Buffet - the highest grossing restaurant in France
Even Ducasse coffee is amazing
I live in Los Angeles so I’m curious to see which ones you will visit here. In California. Any in LA?
Fantastique!
Dear Alexander, will you come try the restaurant de l'Hotel de Ville in Crissier, Switzerland? :)
The second dish, the roasted eggplant dish. Sounds delicious 😋.
You should do reviews on just Alain Ducasse restaurants! 😇
8:29 I would LOVE to see the Miss Sauce Universe pageant😂 On the other hand, did anyone else do a hard double-take at 6:09 and then again at 9:48?
Looking forward to following your adventures in California - I think I can guess what's coming :)
I like your music more from earlier shows!
Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester:
3/5 for value for money
4/5 for food (not great for a 3*)
5/5 for service
Amazing that you saw Ducasse himself, though. Extremely rare.
Have added Alain Ducasse to the map of eatlect along with 39 other restaurants Alexander has reviewed in this channel.
I never considered it but I just did. He should come to Philadelphia
I love making enjoying life an art
Don't worry mate, you'll get that Krug sponsorship one day. I believe in you.
hope youre going to Singlethread in CA. i've been to a lot of 3 michelin restaurants but Singlethread honestly is 4-star.;
I keep imagining if i was there, i don't have clothes that fit that enviroment and i'm deffinitely not well behaved enough to just not burp loudly.
It would be like taking a trucker to a 5 star restaurant, or a sailor.
Glad to see you here in london! Just visited here the other day and was impressed
I don't think I shared my champagne, but I also think that my table was nicer.
I can appreciate the price of the food in these establishments, but I always take issue with the markup on the wine. Having had a wine bar in the past, we would typically apply a multiplier of 3 to the wine price. But in Michelin * restaurants the rule seems to 6 or 8 times and I just can't do it. I know what I would pay in the trade, and I can't bring myself to pay what they charge. They apply no extra value to the wine, so I can't see the justification. 😢
He had Krug Grand Cuvee Magnum NV for 895$ which retails well above 500$. To be honest I have never seen a 6-8 times mark up anywhere.
Yes, some wines don't have that markup. However as an example, I would purchase Tignanello for about 45 euros in Italy (where we had the wine bar). Our last outing to a Michelin star restaurant had the same wine listed at over £300. @@fnaticLoda
@@cheddarfish225unfortunately these days tignanello is around 140 euros even if you buy directly from antinori. It has tripled it's price in the last 15 years.
@@fnaticLoda3-4 is “normal” but even more than that isn’t out of place in Mayfair. It can get nuts.
The restaurant has had mixed reviews, therefore so interesting to see yours. Maybe AD being there skewed things?
