Music nerd here. I felt the need to point out that dissonance is the opposite of consonance not the opposite of harmony. Any two or more notes sounding together, regardless whether they are dissonant or consonant, classifies as harmony, as harmony is the vertical relationship between intervals. Melody would be the horizontal relationship between intervals.
Hearing this band evolve over the years into THIS... has been one of the most satisfying and inspirational experiences of my musical life. Legend shit. Please never stop.
Feels a little unfair he sometimes gets overshadowed by Jaimie, (who is without a doubt one of the greatest death metal drummers of all time) but there's literally nobody on the planet who writes riffs that sound remotely like this. Closest comparison I can think of is whoever plays guitar for Yellow Eyes with all they layered guitar parts and harmonies going on. Kind of a shame they don't have a second guitarist performing live with them imo

As a drummer, I was like awww the drums are lower in the mix, but now you point it out, it's like a new course in a meal. I have something different to snack on and enjoy this time around

Seem like the band is going into darker, almost black metal like, direction. The sound is like a combination of Destroyers of All and Shrine of Paralysis. It's more energetic/faster-paced and less melancholic than Stare but still maintains a heightened sense of melody that has appeared on their previous two, especially Stare. Excited to hear more.

Already album of the year for me. I honestly wasn't even expecting a new release already, Stare Into Death is so amazing that it's carried me through the last 3 years and didn't once get old for me. One of the few bands that give me immediate goosebumps.
I personally love the more melodic direction they've gone, they took the already perfect formula they had and just like put 15% more melody while keeping the insane technical proficiency and it just works
ONLY the mighty Ulcerate could make a song like this; ALL the trademarks that makes this band a cut above the rest are present here. I sense another masterpiece of an album fortcoming... Hearing it for the first time felt like being a medieval Phesant witnessing the live orchestra for the first time. I hope I dont overkill, but this sounds like a masterpiece.
If the next song doesn't start with an immediate sonic pummeling that would be a missed opportunity. But otherwise, the song is rad, and I'm really looking forward to the whole release.
It's insane after all this time and all the riffs Ulcerate continue to innovate and mature artistically. I feel like they're spending more time working on hooks if this single and SIDABS is anything to go by and it's absolutely paying off.
Discovered these masters in 2020 with Stare Into Death and Be Still and was completely blown away. Booked tickets to their live show in Melbourne on 1 August 2024 tonight. Will be in the front row screaming lyrics to the new tracks and old. All hail the dissonant lords of death metal!

Whoa!?! :o Really didn't believe that the guys could deliver another pearl like that after godly beast of an album "Stare Into Death and Be Still" (album of a decade if not a century). If the rest of the album is gonna be similar to this track than we have AOTY for sure. Even production is close to the predecessor which was eargasm par excellence, best sounding album I've ever heard in my entire life. Hats off to the trio for making this type of indescribable comprehensive all-pervading music landscapes.

I had similar thoughts on this, also guitar sound is more like on Shrine of Paralysis and drums sounds more dry compared to Stare. Love it
