"I didn't want you here, but you're here now so...well done...welcome" David Brent - A masterclass on hospitality 😅 This quote would make an excellent front door mat.
The utter hilarity that he accepts that he is a target of ridicule but is pleading that he’s less pathetic as somene else to lessen his grief. The other really funny thing is this is a demonstration of how to “roll with the punches”
A masterclass in writing and performing. In 2 short minutes he goes from 'demonstrating' his thick skinned businessman's nature, to revealing his true paper thin resolve and ego and then taking revenge by grossly insulting someone else, undermining everything he'd been saying previously. Absolutely brilliant.
Like many scenes in the office every line is funny. Even the unspoken is often hilarious. Cracks me up how brent physically attempts to dodge Gareth's verbal insults but every one of them hits and hurts him.
This is honestly one of the best scenes in any show ever 😂😂 starts saying you need to be thick skinned in business and that names don’t hurt him and instantly gets pissed off by names 😂 then gives a speech about how nicknames are bad only to give Keith the worst nickname of all time in Fatty Fatty Toad Boy 😂😂😂
tornadokari The way Gervais changed Brent's character, and pathos, in the second season and christmas special was one of the most amazing character developments in sitcom history. We suddenly started to see him as a victim and totally bufoonish well meaning and hopelessly deluded. It could go no further than the ending to the christmas special, and the new film was a joke to me. WE really came to love Brent, because he wasn't a bad guy at all. Just hopelessly lonely and obsessed with being a role model and 'father figure' to staff that just wanted a weekly pay check. If you are lonely you will use those you work with as a surrogate family, but it will never work out
when i watched it the first time i thought he realized he had gone too far, but he was still just thinking about himself lol genius acting and camera direction
Well spotted! It was exactly that line that a boss once said at a place where a neighbour I grew up with worked. It was aimed at him, because he was such an evil, malicious stirrer. The sort of person who'd get given a wooden spoon as a leaving present!
@@gammaALAN yeah partridge is genius, i feel he doesn't get the credit he deserves i cant help but think david brent was inspired by partridge although rickey never admits it
Can you imagine trying to torture Keith for information? You'd run out of steam long before he ever did. There's not a KGB officer in the world would know what to do with that goddamn stoic son of a bitch.
I'm trying to think if there's anything he could have said that wouldn't have offended David. In the first episode he makes a joke about drinking a lot, Dawn just continues the same joke and he gets offended at that... maybe something like "you could never raise money for charity" so he can reply "wrong! I do walks for Mencap!".

A very excellent doormat!
Underrated comment. Someone needs to make this doormat happen

Keith just standing there chewing gum without a care in the world while being viciously insulted lol
Clumsy.
Sums up majority of my life tbh
Keith was an example of what he was supposed to be talking about. Sticks and stones.......
He can't be hurt his only weakness is eczema.
He's got bipolar lol
Gareth's delivery of "Daviiiid!" when Brent walks out cracked me up 😂
absolutely 😂😂😂
And cute
"Im gonna show you how to roll with the punches"... has a meltdown instantly..
He rolled over with the first blow.
From “rolling with the punches” to literally giving an impassioned speech on the emotional pain of nicknames.
Beautifully written comedy
fatty fatty toad boy
Leroy from fame 🤣🤣 as often referenced by craiiiig daviiiid.
“The coloured fella off of Fame”
The complete and utter randomness of that reference kills me every single time 😂
"Swindon lot don't seem to respect you"
Caught Brent off guard haha
He fazed him.
@@MaxZorin2099 different points to be made .

great comment on a great scene
Brilliant. You summed it up perfectly

yet another scene of comedy genius. practically every line is a gem...on and on...what a masterpiece
At least start on him...
And he's got glasses!!
Brent mused.
"You're here now. Well done. Welcome"
I love how in the end when he says "Mr Toad", he does the exact pose that probably bore the nickname.
Haha,well spotted
The moment he stares at Keith in disbelief that he is the one being made fun of and not Keith is my favourite part
"A lot of people are laughing at the heels on your shoes."
"I'm not gonna be wearing the shoes am I!!"
You can still get em
I love that Keith just stands there chewing gum and giving zero fucks while David insults him in front of everybody.
Keith is the example of what he was talking about. Not giving a fuck about what people say, but he couldn't take it himself.

@John Saunders Keith is the unsung hero of the office
Ricky doesn't like being referred to as an actor but he did deliver some proper acting. Especially in the scene where Brent was being made redundant.
Or the scene in Extras where he is criticising reality TV, while on Big Brother
The way Gareth stands sheepishly behind David during his speech to the staff when there's no reason for him to is great
"Body Fascism."
Little did Ricky know, people would start using such terms without a hint of irony 15 years laters.
@Western Unity ok but relax
2:21 the best pan out shot ever. I couldn't breathe when I first saw that 😂😂😂

Davidddd....
That made me laugh as he said it so pathetically lol
"The Toad is the ugliest of all the amphibian"
at least Keith knew how to roll with the punches
Keith standing there stone cold is actually a better motivational speech than the one David Brent ended up doing.
Leroy. The coloured fella off of Fame...
Which begs the question if Gareth has been watching Fame.......
@@BigAL0074He can dance. He can *really* dance. It would have been a beautiful sight to behold, and brave Gareth would have finally felt fulfilled.

The great twist is that Keith is actually the expert at being thick skinned in business.
This is such an incredible scene. The structure of the joke, the pacing, the dialogue. Perfect.
The cleverest line in this scene might just be "we're all one big happy family here".
The writers have definitely experienced shitty offices before
