MTG had its run. A great one at that. But now the games are revolutionizing. The competition has caught on. The most interesting thing Magic had going for it was the explore the dungeon cards it had for the DND set. It added a miniature grid to the game that just felt amazing. And thus SORCERY TCG was born. The TCG world is merging with board game utilities. Marvel Legendary has proven that games can thrive with a board included. It’s a really GREAT time to be a TCG fan to be honest. So much potential out there. Competition is a good thing. People forget that POKEMON was once under Wizards of the Coast before it too decided to part ways and compete.
I've heard a ton of rumors lately about Lorcana and Flesh and Blood both having what it takes to take down Magic the Gathering. Personally, I love the game and I don't want to see it go however; After seeing what Lorcana and Flesh and Blood have to offer and the recent decline of Magic the Gathering; I'm starting to consider backup options.
If it's another year after they release beta before another set comes out, then sorcery will die out. People will forget about it if they are not engaging with it regularly. Currently it's all hype and that will die down soon and so will the game.

Magic: the Gathering Could die, and card games will still exist. Pokemon isn't going anywhere. Ever. Pokemon is the modern day escapism of the idea a 10 year old could free travel a social economic utopia. I'll leave space as to why I fully believe this but I would have to educate others here on a perspective about Yu-Gi-Oh! and what it truly means to the Card Community.
Yu-Gi-Oh! from its very origin was a celebration of persons enjoying and playing games. Boardgames, dice games, video games, and of course Card Games. Yu-Gi-Oh! has done it all and with mild success in its different avenues. Like... This "new" Sorcery game, is literally Dungeon Dice Monsters with Magic the Gathering cards as the summon pieces. (not a facetious statement either, like it literally is Dungeon Dice Monsters aside from the mechanics to summon. But building a path and gameboard to the opponent to hit is identical. A lot like Duelist of Roses the YuGiOh game too. Interesting note. Yu-Gi-Oh! has an anime. And before that a Manga. So its media was already successful before the Card game. It is The fact the anime is centered around playing the cards you're going to be able to own and play with, is what made Yu-Gi-Oh! stand out and rise up to join and become The Big 3. It is cosplay, make believe, education and fun all in one available package. Adult Yu-Gi-Oh! fans right now would pay HUGE money to play on a real Live VR Duel field. 100% Like at a Vegas event. The fact "the heart of the cards" meme has transcended to other games, let alone Culture as a whole, speaks to how much more vastly influencing Yu-Gi-Oh has been vs. Magic the Gathering on the minds of the masses. I see elements of Yu-Gi-Oh! in Flesh and Blood. I feel it is an official part of the Core 4. FaB won't be Vanguard or Force of Will, or Duel Masters/Kaijudo, etc. It already is blowing up in EU and Brazil and Japan. It and Yu-Gi-Oh eventually will become the top 2 They're actually played and engaging metas. Of course the bans and tier 0 decks will always cause toxicity but what card game doesn't?
I would love to see MTG go it really needs to. I live in Portland, OR and it is literally a mono game city and that is MTG. Good luck if you want to play anything else especially if it is new. I tried FOW, a much better game than magic in my opinion, and I would have to drive 2 hours to play. It really sucks. Unfortunately I think Hasbro showed that taking a steaming Hawt Karl on both their biggest IPs does absolutely fuck all of nothing. I mean just because I will never give that company another dime doesn't really seem to matter.
@@HometownTcg it’s kinda reminds me of if mtg and fab had a baby. As weird as that sounds. You love gameplay would love for you to try it and give your feedback.
MTG commander tables are full of casuals AND tryhards that pretend to be casual. Everyone is a carebear, then the game move fowards and you feel like your playing five nights at freddy's. :P
😂😂😂 Yeah my experience with commander started off as a friendly exploration into that booster draft type of discovery where cards naturally align themselves and that moment of “oh cool I didn’t know these two cards would work so well” was supposed to happen. Especially given the 1 copy per card rule. Thennnnnn came the meta decks. People started building around commanders that were OP. The creativity started to fade. The game slowly crumbled into a standard type of atmosphere where a friendly game was now hyper competitive. Annnnnnnd that’s where I stopped 😂. But Sorcery TCG brought back that sparkle I originally enjoyed with Magic a long time long time ago before giving commander a run. I like how Mythics are limited to 1 copy. Rares 2. Uncommon 3 and commons 4. I like the art work! WOW! And then you have the lands. Finally an EARTHQUAKE feels like a real earthquake. A card that rotates that physical placement of lands in a clockwise space and does damage to everything on those sites! How cool is that! I just can’t wait for the multiplayer grids. I think sorcery TCG introduced an element to the game that makes TCGS that much more fun. A warhammer like element. Where positioning matters. You even have an AVATAR who is basically the commander/planeswalker. This game is so much fun. I think the MTG community that went the commander route is going to absolutely love this game when they discover it. But can SORCERYTCG market the game? Idk. They are going to depend on word of mouth and conventions. But they need some real marketing to get this game out there.
I disliked how LSS treated pillar members of the community and felt like I was being pushed "out of the club" as it were. I also was realizing that for FaB to see the growth that I wanted before everything fell apart, LSS would need to pay more attention to the casual community and find ways that people could casually engage with the game. The gameplay, the box, and the event structure actively fight against the casual enthusiast imo and I couldn't keep "yelling into the void" so to speak. You couple that with my daughter being born and my time becoming more scarce I had to spend it where I had passion that I felt could be reciprocated with potential. That being said if you are a FaB fan I not only support you but want nothing but good things for the vast majority of the community. @@HometownTcg It is apparent that other card games are not evaluated on the same level as Magic. Recently, I engaged in a lengthy discussion at my card shop regarding this matter. Unlike other card games, if they were to make the same mistakes that Magic has made repeatedly, they would likely go out of print and become obsolete. The longevity of Magic's success, spanning 30 years, can be attributed to the devoted fan base who believe it to be unparalleled and unbeatable. As the saying goes, "if you say something loud enough and long enough, eventually it becomes true," and this holds true for Magic's unwavering prominence in the card game industry.
I think magic succeeds in todays day and age for far more reasons than just “it’s been here for 30 years” - this is why you see indie tcgs like FaB repeatedly reaching into the mtg playbook and taking thing for their game.
@@HometownTcg I understand your perspective, and I agree with you. The point I was trying to emphasize is that new card games like Flesh and Blood are not given the same level of unwavering loyalty and forgiveness that Magic enjoys from its devoted fan base. If any new card game were to make the same mistakes that Magic has repetitively made in the last year, those games would likely cease to exist. The reason Magic endures is due to its dedicated followers who, regardless of the circumstances, continue to support and purchase its products. These ardent fans, in my opinion, can be seen as fanatics, but not necessarily in a positive way. While I still appreciate and enjoy playing Magic, I no longer support their practices by purchasing their products in the same manner as before
@@themagicoffleshbloodI agree with your points. Being first to market, if I remember correctly, is one of if not the most important thing in selling a product! Mechanically, there have been quite a few card games made over the last 30 years that are far better than magic. But, it's extremely difficult to get people to buy in when they're already invested in what came first.
Lorcana will probably affect Pokemon more. It would be great if all new games gradually remove mtg from 1st place. Everyone can still play mtg for decades without needing any new product releases. With regards to the market, new games are much better than mtg, but in order to have a future in paper tcgs, mtg HAS to be gradually eliminated from the market of new products. Tcgs and other paper games in the digital era will vanish if mtg keeps dominating the market. So mtg doesnt really carry the tcgs into the digital era, it will actually be the doom of tcgs.
Anyone else surprised by the lack of Grand Archive in the thumbnail? If there's any game I can say most disenfranchised MTG players might enjoy, it would be GA.
Paper MTG will persist in any digital future short of a nuclear apocalypse. Imagine that Hasbro and WOTC go bankrupt tomorrow but won't sell the IP to anyone ever. MTG communities, panels, youtubers, etc. would find ways to create/distribute new cards and continue to give people a good excuse to gather in person. After all, these are the same people that created the most popular format for the most popular CCG. Oh yeah and everyone thinks collectable digital assets are now a scam (NFTs)
It would be interesting to find out - that is why as long as there are TCG's imo there will be an MTG. The concern is one day when people move on from owning physical collectables. That likely will not happen in our lifetimes!
I feel like Sorcery and FAB are taking over MTG. Just not in terms of marketshare. But in every other aspect. It's a bit like Madden in video games. It'll keep selling and treating its fans badly. But there are many other games, that are better and more fun in many ways.
@@HometownTcg It's not easy to respect other people's opinions. So I appreciate that. And I agree with what you said elsewhere that FAB isn't treating casual play well. I would add, they also made the higher rarities much too rare for people to collect unless they live without financials really being a concern. They definitely dropped the ball there, and I hope they will fix it at some point. Sorcery has been great at casual play though. So far. It's also huge on flavor which I love! I'm also very excited about the upcoming Drakerion TCG, because of its very snappy fun gameplay in which, like in FaB, you can sort of 'steer' your deck through turn by turn play. And Star Wars unlimited, though I'm a little wary of FFG support. And the game hasn't got flavor text (yet?) which I would miss a lot. It doesn't seem super complex, so I think I'd prefer it over Lorcana if I want to play a 'lighter' game. I just gave you a lot more opinions to disagree with, haha. It's just how I feel personally.
@@lystic9392magic is going through an identity crisis as it really wants to make itself known to the youth. It’s taken the Fortnite approach. Where you keep the core concept of the game the same but just throw WHATEVER skin your fans can relate to on it. Love Marvel? Here’s a marvel set of Magic alternate art. Love transformers? Walking dead? Here’s some sets from the vault. But like you said with Madden, players know when the game is being re skinned. And we can also tell when the target audience is shifting. I remember when Madden was strictly about speed, tight gameplay mechanics and PURE user play. Now? The game is slower. The game has tons of automated options for CPU aided plays (hold square auto tackle 😂) and they even got rid of the QB vision. The game just felt faster and more responsive on the Xbox/ps2 era believe it or not. But to your point Magic is catering to newer players with its new look the same way that Madden did to stay relevant for the next gen. Leaving the die hard players to find something that actually recaptures that “Magic” (pun intended). Enter SorceryTCG. We get a GRID system. Magic stumbled upon it with the DND set and dungeons. But they never really went back. It was actually amazing. But sorcery TCG weaved the dungeon grid into its very being. So lands are now played on ACTUAL locations and the game is just ready to do things Magic cannot. It’s like getting a 7’1 Point Guard that can dribble like Kyrie Irving. It’s cool to see the TCG scene evolving so much. I’m really happy for the kids in this era because they get to grow with it. Us veterans have been here before and the nostalgia is great too.
sound like you been out of Flesh and blood for a while. Rainbow foil L are very common. All the RF L in Fab 2.0 are under 40 except crown of Provedince and thats around 50 for non foil. the 1 card that very pricey would be tunic. Marvel are not needed to play the game.
Just visited the BH Chicago to say hi to MinMax and friends in the game - Plenty of expensive tunics/scabskins/masks/storm striders and more going around. The game does not cater to the casual enthusiast in box opening or in play imo.
Heh, Me and 3 other 40 year old dad magic players are picking up Lorcana. We have been playing Magic since '94. But we are not dropping Magic just taking a break. Lorcana will be like the 8th or 9th tcg break from Magic throughout the years.
I think because it’s not as heavily focused on the competitive/tournament scene people will be more likely to play fun decks instead of chasing the meta constantly.
Seeing deck limitations within sorcery I don't think solving the meta will be as easy as it sounds. Magic you get to have playsets of the the strongest cards. Sorcery you can't in theory do that. Could be wrong but I'd be happy just knowing I won't have to deal with fomo like with mtg

I already talk too much - I couldn't talk about EVERY tcg!
I hope you are enjoying GA
my vote will be on one piece tcg
I don't know as much about it as I should but I have heard good things!
I see what you are saying and appreciate your feedback - we agree to disagree on this one
Ah yes, mtg is king :')
Doesn't look like its falling any time soon
sound like you been out of Flesh and blood for a while.
Nope. As awful as WOTC & Hasbro are, MTG is the best game ever.
TRUE
Best, in what way? Mechanically? Flavor? Marketing? Organized play? Something else?
@@danacoleman4007 Gameplay. Easy to learn, fun, strategic, fresh dynamics throughout endless deck techs.
The 40 year old enfranchised magic Dads aren’t playing a new game.
This is likely true. Speaking from experience XD
Heh, Me and 3 other 40 year old dad magic players are picking up Lorcana. We have been playing Magic since '94. But we are not dropping Magic just taking a break. Lorcana will be like the 8th or 9th tcg break from Magic throughout the years.
This is great feedback! I didn’t think it would happen and it clearly is - thank you for sharing and let me know what you think of lorcana!
With Sorcery only having one set a year, that meta is going to get stale quick.
I think its going t be interesting for sure. I am excited to follow along
I think because it’s not as heavily focused on the competitive/tournament scene people will be more likely to play fun decks instead of chasing the meta constantly.
@@Geek2pointoh Fair point! I hadn't thought of that.
One Piece TCG.* There I fixed it for you.
I don't know as much about it as the others but I have heard good things!
