    Thank you for the video and thanks for taking a quick walkthrough! Always a big fan of your hard work.

    Great video. Like Americans. Not sold on the full wall slide and it's reliability. Got to be a lot of stress on that unit. I'm not convinced that current manufacturers of production coaches have properly engineered those units for lifetime structural integrity. I appreciate your videos. Thanks again. Great content.

    • @AZExpert

      You and me both. Those slides require a special programmer which few shops have and almost no mobile shops have(I mean I do), but even the engineering behind such a large opening in a normal building is difficult let alone on a moving platform, seems likely to be a constant issue.

    I have the same roof on a America Coach that's 10 years older. The roof is fine of course. It's the seam that will get you. Water intrusion at any point along the seam can then travel along the steel frame in the walls and cause problems.

    I have a similar dishwasher in my Beaver Patriot Thunder. There is no remote (at least with mine). You push the button on the door edge for the washing mode you want, then you close the door and washer starts. However my dw has a button on the front face to lock the door from opening while driving. I still tie the door shut when driving.

    • @badgerpa9
      @badgerpa9 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please tell me you use a dog leash to tie it up. That would be comedy.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like face buttons. You can lock the dishwasher by holding the key button until you get a second beep, of course to unlock hold the key until the first beep

    I like the walk-through you answer a lot of questions before I ask are used to like the real bathroom until I seen from you how difficult it would be difficult to the engine access I wanted to put fake awning to give my coach a higher profile look but it looks like every intrusion into the Roof is a potential leak and problem a.k.a. cost more money for maintenance most important of all be nice to see more videos on the Allegra red redo

    I'd like to see a complete, detailed RV inspection, not just on high-end RVs - would be useful for people who are looking to buy an RV....

    • @badgerpa9
      @badgerpa9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could pay him to inspect your RV purchase and he could go over it with you, that would be the best.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate that. A full basic inpection takes hours and camera would double that. But I will think about how to do that. Thanks!

    • @ckm-mkc
      @ckm-mkc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@badgerpa9 I would pay him, but that's not the point. He's an expert and there is no substitute for that. That said, it would be good to know what to look for while shopping around. I restore old cars, some of them take 4000 hours. There is no way I could even begin to explain to someone how to do that. Showing people the work involved helps people understand what they are paying for.

Again thank you for educating us on these different roof styles. Since they are so different it is fun to learn. Stay safe and healthy.

    What about water drainage from rain storms.. I know in Washington and Texas there are some massive rain storms. I didn't see a lot of openings for where water would drain.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The roof drains under all the awnings and decorative awning panels there is a large gap. The rear cap also has large openings to drain. I'm a desert rat so snow is not an issue here, but yes I imagine snow would get stuck very easily.

      Most failures are caused by improper maintenance, but the adhesive failures seem to be a more common issue now. Maybe they switched to a more eco friendly product to try it out?

    Are you checking the front running lights on the roof cap? They are prone to leaking wondering how you do that with a scaffold or ladder?

  • @1hasbeen531

    So, in your opinion, would a fiberglass roof option in a DRV or NH fifth wheel be a better choice than TPO, or some other membrane type roof?

    • @DLTJR1959
      @DLTJR1959 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally like them better. Different manufacturers attach them differently. You still areas that can develop leaks where the ac's and other items go onto the roof. I had a tpo roof that lasted exactly 12 years and had to be replaced. My current Wanderlodge has a one piece aluminum roof.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True gel coat Fiberglass roofs are the most durable, repairable, and most expensive roofs usually only found on high end motorhomes. I think PVC roofs seem to be the best membrane roof on RVs as they are thick and durable. TPO roofs and EPDM rubber roofs have just been around for decades so there's many more of them, but the key is that they have been around for decades so they can work if maintained.

    What happens in the macerator toilet if you don't use RV TP, does it clog up the grinding head?

    • @DLTJR1959
      @DLTJR1959 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should not matter. Macerators work great until they break. And they do break. Lots used now in bath and 1/2 models. Can't gravity dump both commodes into the black tank with two toilets.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Anything like flushable wipes, napkins, or really fiberous will wrap around the macerator and jam it up. The macerator will not pump out the waste and the water valve will not know. The bowl fills up, as everyone will try a "second" flush and now the toilet has to be removed full of waste, torn apart, cleaned out and re-installed. I really hate that job, so that's why I say to only use RV toilet paper down a macerating toilet.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like the idea of a roll on coating on fiberglass. But it should coat just fine

      @snowking0182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AZExpert thank you a builder friend uses this gaco product often and stands behind it he put it on his camper 5 years ago and its still in good shape he says. Would recommend to just sand the gel coat where the cracks are and rework the gel coat vs rolling this on. Thanks again for the info.

    One thing I didn't see you doing is using a thin flat bladed tool to physically check to make sure that the dicor is still sticking to the roof, just because it looks ok doesn't mean it's still a good seal, dicor is the worst crap on the market there is a lot better comerical products available

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right. This is merely a visual inspection. It is possible to use a screwdriver to test every inch of sealant, a seal tech could be installed and a true air pressure differential leak test would be better. A visual inspection should find 95% of issues and can be done quickly, while prying at sealant will cause failure if done bi-annually. Thanks!
