  • Let's test out Reason 12, by making some acid techno! It's been about 15 years since I last opened Reason, so let's rediscover it together and put together some squelchy 303s over some rumbly techno.

You didn't have to go through all that trouble to make kick delay, main SSL kick mixer channel -> right click -> create parallel channel and done.
You can make 303 sounds with a multitude of stock devices or simply get 3rd party dedicated devices like the ABL3.
You have barely scratched the surface of what Reason can do these days, it is an amazing bit of software and the rack can also work as a plugin in Ableton if you don't want to use Reason's sequencer.
    Enjoy!

Like how extensively you can edit and create drum sounds in Kong. Or creating pulsating sounds in Europa. Or reinventing samples in Mimic. Especially for someone with your expertise. That could be a popular series, because of how much you would be genuinely loving it. And so would we all.

    Awesome! More Reason stuff!
The workflow has changed quite a bit, though, you may want to explore the workflow a bit more. For example you don't need to create a mix channel before creating a new instrument; they get created automatically. You do want to create mix channels when you want to route audio from one device (like a drum machine) onto separate tracks though.
    Keep it up!
    Edit:
ps: holding shift when creating a new device el prevent it from auto routing, so you can do any uncommon routing you desire without ruining your current routings.

This was so fun to watch but you approached Reason the "old" way. THey now have "players" that do all sorts fo crazy stuff, like you could've used one of those sequencers instead of matrix. There's the Beatmap as well to generate beats and monster synths like Thor and Europa.

Hey Oscar, very nice video! I'm both an Ableton & Reason user, and I use both products. Did you know you can now use the Reason Rack as both a VST instrument and effect in Ableton. For me, that's really the best of both worlds. Maybe some tips. If you're working in the reason daw, you could in my opinion use parallel mixer channels to achieve a similar, but more controllable rumble effect. And for your acid bass, you could use the Pattern Mutator Player to generate the variations (also when using reason as a plugin).
Keep on bringing your video's into the world ;-)

It would create some really unique and interesting sounds and loops.

omg this brings so much memories... i started my journey with reason 4, ahahaha didnt know a thing about music production but there were all these buttons and the sound was just sooo goood... i would spend days in front of a sequencer with thor or subtract and drum machines, and just go crazy on it... this gave me goose bumps, i would definitely like to see more!

In last 20 years tried FLStudio, ableton, logic but still with reason. All those different interfaces and wiring makes it fun. Those 4 default delay and reverb racks are your send effects, you can control them in your ssl mixer

You could speak about the trend nowdays, why there are many bandwagon acid techno tracks without inspiration and why do some amateur starters think that if they produce acid, they are underground and oldschool. Acid is great, but its overproduction make this whole subculture totally mainstream.
By the way, great video as always 👏

You should check out the player devices! I don't know much at all about making techno but I do think that you would have a lot of fun with them, especially the Pattern Mutator!
