    I'm here for the quail vids but I find myself binge watching the rabbit vids too, eventhough I have no intention of getting them. I just find all your videos interesting, entertaining and relaxing to watch.

    At 2- 2 1/2 weeks I planned to put the nest box on its side til 3 to 4 weeks. I just had my first little ever and it’s a learning experience. They are 12 days old today.

    I remove mine as soon as the eyes are open with great success, wont have to worry about that much anymore sold 39 rabbits yesterday only kept 3 doe and a buck to breed for meat and converted my cages to quail, went as soon as the rabbits was gone and bought 35 jumbo coturnix to keep me in eggs until the ones i have in the bator hatch. I find your quail videos very informative. Keep them coming chris.

    I always find it preferable to remove nest box when all eyes are open and feet can maneuver on wire without falling through everytime. Between 14 and 21 days, depending on how dirty box is too ofcourse. Biggest worry is always kits legs stuck in wire trying to feed and mom moves suddenly breaking kits leg.

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      good point. I pretty much do the same thing. Once they can get in and out of the nest box on their own and maneuver around the cage just fine. That is generally about the same time frame as you described.

      i had a similar issue moving them to their new pen but i just put an extra wire piece going the oposite way that the main peice goes .

    Mine are just over 4 wks. And there everywhere! I do notice them going back into nest box, but come right back out. They are eating pellets and hay for past week at least. Drink water too. We are having unusually warm weather all week. I'm planning on moving them to a grow out pen protected from weather with Moma still. I hope they'll be fine

    This video came at a perfect time. I just moved some of my rabbits to wire cages and one doe just had babies today. In the wooden hutches they wouldn’t use a nest box so I didn’t have to worry about when to take it out but this morning I was trying to figure out when I would have to take it out. Thanks for the info. What breed is that doe she’s a beauty.

      Awesome. So glad that I could help. :) My doe is a New Zealand Red. Pretty rabbit and great mother but she is starting to get a little grumpy.

      Slightly Rednecked yeah mine just turned a month old now. However it's still snowing here, so thinking of leaving nest materials for few more days. The nest will stay as its drop down style hanging to original cage.

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would bet that they are pregnant. I like to get at least two or three myself but even if you have just one treat her as if she is expecting.

    When you remove the nesting box do you put something on the wire for the baby to sleep on it ? Like it's not too cold for them directly on the wire ? I live in Canada and now outside in the day is like between 6 and 10°C and in the night is -6°C ? Thanks

    Our baby bunnies are 2 weeks old and we saw that they were trying to get out of the nest box so we removed the nest box but the mom got angry and started freaking out so we put them back in the nest box. We don’t know what to do the mother is very stubborn.

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is common for 2 week olds to leave the nest box at times but they still need it. They will venture out and then come back in. I don't remove it until they are spending most of their time outside of it. That is usually around 4 weeks old.

    Did you breed that doe with a black buck? I have bred my chocolate otter and broken lilac to a Californian buck with black babies. I noticed the babies in the cage were all black with a light color doe.

    Hello , so my bunny just had 3 baby bunnies on Thursday...this morning only 2 bunnies were alive , idk if the mother or the father of the baby bunnies killed the bunnies because the baby bunny did have some missing legs and arms & was split in half , could it be possible that the mother or the father of the bunnies killed it because we had them in a cage , but today I decided to move the mom and the 2 babies into a new cage . Should I still be worried ? PLEASE REPLY ASAP , IDK WHAT TO DO SINCE IVE NEVER HAD BABY BUNNIES to take care of :3 , 🙏🏽

      update : both babies have died 💔..

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so sorry for the slow response and your situation. It is very likely that the father or the mother did kill the first baby. It really is best to keep male and female rabbits separate, especially when they have babies. It probably would have been best to move the male rabbit to a new cage and leave the female and babies in the cage that they were in but with only two babies I find it isn't uncommon for them to lose them. it just isn't a big enough litter to keep each other warm. I am sorry I didn't get to this quicker.

    Hi this is a long shot that you will reply but I need your help, so my babies are around 12/13 days and it’s mine and my bunny’s first kits(she accidentally got in with the Male) and I’m scared if I remove the nest box she will hurt her babies, although there have been no issues so far with hurting them, didn’t have any born dead and didn’t eat any when they were born, so I don’t know what to do
    I was hoping you could give me some advice,
    Also one or two have started hopping out of the nest box
    Thanks in advance
    Katie

      hi, i actually have 12-13 day old babies too right now! i’m fostering them for my rescue. don’t remove the nest box from the cage until they’re 3 weeks old! they will use it as a litter box and safe haven. if they explore outside the nest box, that is okay! just make sure they’re all out at the same time so one doesn’t miss a feeding. you can take down a wall to the nest box so they can go in and out easily, so once mom bun comes in to feed they can hurdle back in. mom buns are 99% of the time not aggressive to their babies. they feed 1-2 times a day, and she avoids going to them with people around so “predators” don’t know where her nest is. i had one hop the nest today so that means taking one of the walls down of our cardboard box and letting them run a smaller pen for now until they get bigger and can huddle in bigger spaces! if you have any more questions i can help

      Thanks for the reply and advice I really appreciate it, so far 3 of the 7 have gotten out and I have put them back in after a bit of time with mum because they couldn’t do it themselves, should I take the front of the nesting box off now or should I wait a little longer?
      Thanks again for helping

    • @hithere1874
      @hithere1874 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katie Keouski I would take the front part off since a couple of them are getting out now. After a week i’d take the rest of the parts down so the nest is just flat and they can easily access it! & No problem

    What if the babies are in a hutch and the momma is free roam? Mine are in a nest box at the top of the hutch

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure what the question is exactly. If you are asking when you should remove the nest box in that situation, it is still basically the same. Remove it when they stop using all the time. I hope that helps.

    Our baby rabbits are two weeks and five days old .They stay outside the nest box whole day and stay outside till 9 or 10 o clock at night then go back in the nest box and come out again in early morning. The temperature in daytime is around 35-38 degrees mostly .Its really hot and sunny in day .Shall I remove nest box?

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually remove the nest box around that time. Sometimes give them another week if they seem to be using it a lot. If you are in doubt, just wait a week and then take it out.
