    Great video. Such a change to find positive videos about Alfa Romeo. Unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo you will never understand their appeal. They are addictive and nothing can bring so much joy and pain. A car you just want to clean and drive. Nothing gets as much administration from passer by . Enjoy your Alfa Romeo

    I've got a super GT Cloverleaf Q2 and love it. But I'm also old school and a 60's kid. So for my generation, a 'hack' means 'to cut or chop' ... as in ... to cut into someone else's software illegally ... or to chop something up. The word 'hacks' could also mean 'poor / sub-standard journalists'. So this video title initially confused me until I realised you meant 'tips'! For us Brits, the word is 'tip'. So please do continue giving us tips on this fantastic car ... its very much appreciated ;-)

    The triangle at the bottom of the fuel filler cap fits onto the hook on the inside lower edge of the fuel flap , neatly keeping the cap off the bodywork. Keep up the good work.

    Oh my goodness THANK YOU. Here I was, smug at knowing for certain I knew every hack of my beloved GT, and indeed, I had a good start, but then you made me rrrrreally happy with the parking lights trick, turning the key just a tad further while pressing down the secret plasticy thingy knobby rim that usually just sits in the way when you try to turn the key. Point is, I always put the key in with the round side downwards, and in this position, you can't really reach for that rim sort of ... what is it. A knob. So I watched this video just now and after finishing I went right outside in cold and pitch black darkness to try it out. OMG what a nice hack. With the turn signal lever and all. Super cool. I literally just went out to the garage to try out the park light thing with thre indicators on my 147 jtd. Given that it's pretty much the same car with a different body, hardly surprising that it does it too. Already discovered the quirk about the windows not going up with the remote. There's also a quirk with the boot release button where it doesn't work if a doors been left open for a while. Closing and opening the LH front door resets it. #becausealfa

    With the door windows, hold down the unlock button and when both (on my 3 door) windows start to drop; unpress the button and they continue down.

    I brought an Alfa GT as it's always been on my bucket list, had it driven delivered from 100 miles away didn't get to test it till the following day and it had no brake fluid in it and I couldn't select a gear so I bled the clutch after re filling the fluid and it's ok. Had a random alarm go off in the night twice and passenger door handle came off in my hand and I've only had it 3 day's. I've called her Christine 😃

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt, yeah the door handle tend to break eventually but are reasonably easy to replace. Check the front strut spring platforms for rust as they tend to collapse. Stiff gear levers can be fixed by stripping and replacing the “top hat” bushes in the linkage (underneath the battery). Otherwise they are pretty good generally. Hope you enjoy mate 👍🏻

    That red cord open the fueldoor manualy, not the boot. (this is the part number: 60682498)
    GT is a three door car with removable hat-rack, so somebody in the boot, remove the hat-rack, going forward, and open the front doors.

    • @Viktushish

      There are 2 red cords in the boot. One for the fuel door, and one for the boot. The one for the boot is in one of the inside handles of the boot lid (nearside for you Brits). I've actually made one myself for my girlfriend's Fiat Stilo really easy. Just attach a strong cord to an arm (used by the keylock originally) on the lock mechanism and drill a small hole in the boot lid plastic. And BTW all cars sold in the EU have to have one from year X (can't remember exact date)

    • @EinsAchtAchtSieben
      @EinsAchtAchtSieben 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      what do you mean by "stiff gears"?

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Creaking suspension needs new arms, or anti roll bar bushes, stiff gears is an easy fix - change top hat bushes on the gear linkage (under the battery tray.) costs about a Fiver 👍🏻

    • @Viktushish
      @Viktushish 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Creaking suspension is 9/10 the upper arm bushes. There are two ways to solve it:
      1. When replacing the bushes make sure they are well lubricated (or overlubricated)
      2. Replace the arms with ones that have lubrication points (my guess is that they will tend to rust, so more care will have to be taken there) for the bushes, and replace the rubber ones with polyurethane. They will still need lube every 1-2 years.
      I just remove the top arms, recondition the ball joints and re-use the poly bushes (they will last longer than the car in most cases), because proper german TRW top arms are expensive.
      BTW there is a hack on quick top arm removal. Requires to drill a 1 by 1 inch hole/door in the wheel arch liner, and inserting the long top bolt the other way round (bolt head facing to the back of the car now. This is where the hole in the wheel arch comes in). Originally the bolt can't be removed easily because the coil spring is in the way. Failsafe designed by engineers, but makes life harder for us.

    Understand the irony....but for anyone who doesn't, Alfa deliberately do what they do - for example, the armrest lowest position is actually a perfect compromise allowing you to use it and still reach the handbrake. The window drop allows Italians sitting on a sunny café terrace to drop the windows and let the heat out of the car before they go back to it. When you're back in you can obviously raise the windows normally. Why would you want a remote raise feature??

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple - if you have all the windows down and you park up - raising all the windows simultaneously before you lock up is easier!

      Yeah I knew about this one but couldn't get it to work on my car, so had to leave it out! It was going to be "7 hacks in 7 minutes!"

    4/6 for me. Any idea where the boot liner came from ? It looks tidy.

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, sorry I don't - the liner was in the car when I bought it. Very handy though - thick plastic & waterproof with a lip all the way round!

      A couple of other things which weren't obvious to me until someone showed me... the bases of the back seats fold forward before dropping the rear seats. Two keys when held together roughly match the shape of the front grill.

    Hi Chris
    Noticed on one your vids, that the boot lid opens fully on your JTDM whereas on mine (1.8 TS)it doesn't
    Is this a fault or just and upgrade in yours
    Cheers

      Hi Kevin, thanks a lot for watching! I’m not sure I’m afraid - this was my friends 159. As far as I know the car was completely standard, so maybe yours has an issue with the mechanism or struts? Sorry I can’t be of more help

      My apologies i meant to say GT. I can't find any info on the difference so when i saw your JTDM open fully it made me think

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah ok, well the GT was my car and it was unmodified too. The same would apply to your GT - maybe the mechanism has a fault? Try asking on www.alfaowner.com the GT forum on there may know. 👍🏻

      Tried the windows down from the key fob but the alarm just goes teeen teeen teeen and nothing happens. Will try the others and report back
