@@saimawasti9598 because that’s the position of hands he wanted quin to make while falling
@@jjba..crusaders oh I see. Thanks
He never care for her at all and this scene really shows it. He wanted her to sacrifice herself for him essentially becoming a zombie and that isn’t love… what he loved was the idea of her serving his ego and becoming his possession, destroying her true self in the process. That’s what makes joker the joker, great performance and accurate representation of a crazy toxic relationship 👏🏽
Facts I never thought about it like that.
1:28 I think he does sorta like her to some extent because he jumped in for her too
@@jg2722 IMO, he isn’t jumping in because of love, but regrets of loosing something that’s feeding his empty ego
yea he basically made her kill herself, if you don’t live for your true authentic self, then you aren’t living at all. And the worst part is that Harleen is still a part of Harley, she knows that she’s messed up. Deep down she wants to be genuinely loved, but the joker is all she knows
I think he came to love her as an extension of himself, but only that. He's angry that he can't leave her - it's the weakness of his vanity and he knows it.
It’s almost as if this scene came from another movie. So good and of a different caliber than the rest of the movie.
Everyone dislikes this Joker, but I think this movie is the best representation of their relationship. For every moment where he hurts her, he turns around and does something nice for her. It gives a better sense of why she stays with him even though he's dangerous. In my opinion, it's a good view of toxic relationships in general.

The first time I saw this scene I thought: "he does love her, he jumped after her after all, he just won't admit it", thanks to life and it's harsh lessons I've come to understand that he jumps, not because of love but because of ego, he has a hard time letting go of someone who adores him so much, so devoted and admiring of him, he is not jumping to save her, he is jumping to save what she represents...love to himself.
That hit hard
I had to rewatch this scene a few times until I realised it. Which makes him even more terrifying - it completely changed how I perceive this dialogue.

COUGH well you're going to hate it lmao, Birds of Prey is the worst. Margret (Harley quinn) directed it saying (spolier alert) that they were in this "toxic" relationship and that Harley should be her own and get out of it. But there wasn't even a reason to make the movie in the first place. Since the Joker in Suicide Squad actually cared about Harley, instead in all the other movies and comics, he just abused her. I agree that they should have made a Joker and Harley movie, instead of firing Jared Leto. And making a whole movie for a stupid reasom
yea I heard that joker (Jared) isn’t gonna be in suicide squad 2 but I wonder if in a later on dc movie Joaquin Phoenix’s joker and margot’s Harley Quinn will ever meet and get back together
@@maria2x22 Joaqin's Joker is older, that would be just to weird, for the age gap. That's another reason why I liked Jared's Joker, because there isn't an age gap between them. (I have nothing against age gap couples in real life, but in movies it just seems....weird, idk how to explain it) Jared's Joker didn't remind me of the ORIGINAL Joker but maybe his son? Since he is younger, but yet is already involved with Harley. If they ever do make a Suicide Squad 3 then I would like it if they brought back Jared Leto, for the role of Joker.
Yuh yeet ya same i don’t imagine Joaquin’s joker being a couple with Margots’s Harley Quinn but I feel like it’s something warner bros/dc will do, and Joaquin’s Phoenix’s joker is about in his mid thirties so there isn’t a big age gap. but i highly doubt jared will come back as the joker, sadly
@@maria2x22 Agreed, I'm still very angry on why they fired Jared Leto. It was very stupid, just for Margot's opinon (I have nothing against opinons, but that was a pretty stupid reason to fire somebody) it wasn't even correct. I don't think that Birds of Prey was a good movie in general, though. Unless they're making a 3rd movie, it was pointless for multiple reasons.
I don’t understand why everyone hates Jared as the joker he did AMAZING

This scene was magnificent
Yes! I didn’t even watch tbh, I only love this scene.
Right, he literally talks her into killing herself only to change his mind and jump into the shit that made him crazy in the first place. He was willing to dive right into a vat of stuff that makes you crazy, makes your skin look like ash, and will kill you if not out in time, because when he was making her say a meaningless oath, he was the one that loved her back, but didn't want to admit it.
@@darthollpheist1156 absolutely
@@joshua.dmurphy8643 Yeah people read too much into it and think that he was making her take some sacred oath. No. He was toying with her. "Would you die for me" was the whole point. He was trying to kill her. Then just to have some fun with her, he forced her to say an oath, then ask permission.... it was a joke to him at first. A way to rid himself of a loose end. Then, knowing what she was going though, and also feeling something he's not supposed to feel, you see the "fuck it" look that Leto pulls off perfectly (I mean, he's literally the best actor in the movie but they didn't even give him a chance at being a real part of it) then turns and without hesitation, dives into the only thing that might put fear in him (besides The Bat.)
Best scene in the movie. Best scene in and of DC's latest stuff, really.

It always breaks my heart that he almost leaves her to die, and she has no idea.
I kind of like the fact that he almost left her
What is like without a little selfishness 🙂
it’s a selfish love yes and i personally thinks that the way he took his jacket off shows frustration because he basically told her i don’t need to have feelings of love for u but im in love with your infatuation of me. I mean come he took that jacket off like it was something he didn’t want to ruin meaning he care more about the jacket than her.
Jocker and Harley are the best example for a toxic relationship. One being so in control of the other, manipulative, disruptive, hurting and then when their lover is down and done, the very devil turns into an angel and gives that tiny speck of love. Just enough to make sure that their victim will stay with them. Such selfishness..
Jocker never loved Harley. He loved himself. And wanted his submissive partner to be around him even with all his abuse and neglect..so he sprinkled her with love now and then, giving the poor thing hope..and dreams ..
why do people hate him as joker? i thought he did so well.... or maybe i just have a thing for insane toxic men

I think that was not love. It's more of a selfish feeling than love. The moment she jumped he realised he missed her. She was a perfect partner for him. Some one submissive and loyal, whom he could fully control. And may be some kind of love was in it too, like what we would feel towards a pet may be.

@@tiajones2404 When love is selfish is not love
This scene still gives me goosebumps. I want to love & be loved by someone like this
I love both Margot Robbie's and Jared Leto's performance of these 2 characters. In the comics, Joker throws her in the chemicals. In the movie, he simply asks her if she would be willing to do this, then steps back and let's her do it. Joker even warns her to "not make this oath thoughtlessly."
I've seen what women will do for someone they love, or at least someone they think they love. But for Harleen Quinzel, there is no going back, she will be Harley Quinn till the day she dies, if that's even possible. Dear God, I don't want to picture that. But I think these characters are at least 60 or more years old.
I like Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker, but I think Jared Leto's portrayal just went further in terms of what the Joker's mental state could be at any given time. Every time I see the scene where a man calls Harley "a bad b*tch", and then Joker tilts his head to the side, I cringe. I know that that person just wrote his own death sentence.
I find it interesting that I almost know what the Joker is gonna do almost before he does. It's a bit scary to me in fact.
Great movie, great cast as well.
Omggggg,his voice 😍😍😍
This entire dialogue is perfect. They are perfect. When she gets it, when she gets him and says 'please' those kinds of moments are real and happen when true soul mates connect. The power of the chemistry in this 2mins blows the entire 50shades of grey out the window.. What an incredible concept joker and harley are.. Harley making you realize that joker is an ordinary man compared to Harley and that nobody could ever click or understand the joker better than she.. Perfection..

@@joeschook792 Gotham's aesthetic is a toxic city with rats and villains that get their powers by falling in to literal vats of toxic waste. Gotham and it's characters are toxic and vile. That's implied from the very beginning, whats moving about this is that despite all of that, there is still a capacity for love and love that's true. Do they not deserve love because they are toxic ? Being more mature now, I see this scene so differently. "Desire becomes surrender, surrender becomes power"!
The character of the joker is beyond cynical and toxic. This scene depicts it so well. He manipulated this woman to feed his own desire, to feel validated, even if it cost her to lose herself and her sanity, it was all worth it to strengthen his ego.
Extremely well written to accommodate this toxic relationship.
i think he was the best joker out of all of them. his acting was raw and powerful even though he wasn't in many scenes . they should have included him and harley quinn in more scenes. Maybe they should have a movie giving more insight to their relationship or history

Makes you consider all future relationships and make them go thru this
I feel like the Joker is a full range of traits that you just can't fit into only a single character on screen, this is why I appreciate all Joker interpretations, no matter how well they are liked by the public. I think this representation of Joker is to show his psychopathy and disregard for Harley in this toxic relationship. The one Heath Ledger played was to show his brokenness and his obsession with Batman, and Joaquin's Joker shows his pain and how he was robbed of his good traits by the life he was unfortunate enough to live. In my opinion Joker is not a villain, but a broken, mislead, and incredibly nuanced antagonist who's existence was disregarded by everyone and never learned how to healthily cope with his traumas and experiences.
Stay healthy everyone ❤️
