Scott Walker is the best composer and singer of our time. He is so humble, nice, and real despite his genius and struggles. He deserves respect and admiration as a musician and as a man.
Kerrygrl 54 I've been in love with Mr Engel for nearly 50 yrs. His wonderful voice Still makes me cry like a baby. He is the most perfect human being I have ever seen in my life. Takes my breath away every time I saw/heard him and I saw every UK Walker Bros live performance. I hope he is still happily making music somewhere in London. London suits him. Bless.
He is still in London and still making great music. He has now been doing the avant-classical music he loves. Listen to the soundtrack of The Childhood of a Leader. I think it is his latest work to be released. It's amazing. No vocals, though.
Kerrygrl 54 Thanks, I will. I was laughing last night recounting how many hours I stood around in the cold, either waiting to enter to see the WB perform, or waiting to see them leave Top of the Pops, in a car. When they split, I spent the whole week in mourning. They were what the Killers would call "some kind of slick chrome American Prince," tall, handsome and a voice to die for. Then I went to live in America. Wonder why .... ;)
Half Rutter yes heartbroken we’ve lost him. So talented yet judging by what his friends and colleagues (and by what I’ve seen in rare interviews) so sweet natured and shy.
Unbelievable what a way to accept. Beautiful speaking voice also, Scott looked so embarrassed but he deserved it. Go Scott!! Love as always Arlene xxxxxxxxx ❤
What a singer that man is. Accompanied by the orchestrations of Wally Stott/angela Morley and the works of the incomparable Jacques Brel, what a combination you get....utterly breathtaking.
This is what Q Magazine said about Scott Walker's "The Drift": "It could be high art. It could be utter bollocks. Either way, it's lovely when it's over." I could say the same after reading an issue of Q Magazine. Scott Walker is too good for those people. FuQ.
Idk, I think that's a pretty high compliment. Basically saying that it's good regardless of interpretation. Plus Walker seems to be rather humble, so I doubt he'd ever call his work high art.
even though i grew up with his music from the 60's as the walker brothers who voices were ahead of their time, and to be honest they were real turn ons for teenagers like me and others in that era, even then his voice was so different from others of that generation,it was so beautiful, and if i met him back then, well lets just say even after many many years,he still would have remembered me,i have never heard another voice that ever made me feel that way,and he still has that voice, and even though we are not kids anymore ((far from it ) his voice still has it for me,and that's about 45 years ago or more,i hope to hear him before he retires for good, but what ever happened to his brothers,i always wanted to know but no one seems to talk about them, and they should, not only were they brothers but they started out together and it's sad that everyone forgets about them, and their happiness and what they did when they broke up,i do hope they stayed a family through their break up. can someone tell me what happened to his brothers
all I know is when I first heard Mathilde and Angelique...I gave my soul to Scott to look after. he still has it 40 years on.....an angel who came amongst us to calm us and give us beautiful music to listen to. How mature was I at 14 falling in love with jacques brel songs when everyone else was listening to brit pop! It was all in the incredible voice, the earth shattering orchestral arrangements and the poetry.
As I'm sure most of you visiting here are aware, Walker produced Pulp's final album, We love life. Those of you who haven't heard it, I thoroughly recommend you do.
What an artist this man is! Why dont we hear more of Scott Walker? Watched 30 century man and I sat enthralled all night. Anyone know if he is still performing live anywahere? .
Walker tried to collaborate with Eno and ended up walking out. He could not work with him, so maybe this was Jarvis' way of throwing a jab at Eno. Walker would never do that. Too much of a gentleman.
"Brian Eno has some embarrassing back catalogue he's trying to cover up". What an utter twat that presenter is. Can't remember his name, he used to be on some atrocious channel 4 programme years ago. And then we have Scott Walker. A true gentleman and an artist of the highest calibre. Thanks for posting this rare clip.
You'd have thought that Jarvis, just for once, would have put the 'trying to look oh so cool' attitude to one side just for once and perhaps memorised the intro to Scott Walker???
@stillovescott Yes, if only she was using it in an interesting way. And it doesn't stand out in the way Bowie's voice or Walker's voices stand out, either.
which back catalogue of enos are they talking about? i can;t think of any eno record that wouldn't want to listen to - actually scott had some dodgy records between the walker brothers and his genius solo stuff so it's a particularly ignorant analogy
I'd say you were about as mature as you are smug sounding in this comment. That's extremely mature! But, in fairness, when you put it like that I'd have to say your self satisfaction is well justified.
@@dominicaaaaa5547 maybe because smith did a great intense record like pornography and then went sellout with records and singles over the years, he could follow his own path like scott did

yeah Q is pretty lame, i wont even get started on the NME. Mojo and Uncut can sometimes be good, though they do tend to re-hash the usual Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones etc. but to be fair i've discovered so many rare and truly genius artists and bands just by reading them.

One of the best things that has come from being a Bowie fan is having discovered this man and his incomparable music. Badass.
Yes. Two tremendous artists.😊✨🎶
Unbelievable what a way to accept. Beautiful speaking voice also, Scott looked so embarrassed but he deserved it. Go Scott!! Love as always Arlene xxxxxxxxx ❤
A very modest and talented man with a unique and unforgettable voice. Respect to Scott Walker for rejecting pop culture to pursue his dreams!
He was so humble and yet such an incredible voice.
I wonder what he was like after Imbibing, say a bottle of two and whatever else he consumed in the 60's. You see humility become narcissism real fast.
Amazing modesty and dignity from a gargantuan talent.RIP Noel Scott Engel.
Scott seems to be a very sweet, humble almost shy man. A wonderful talent much missed. 😢
Jarvis Cocker got his vocal style from Walker , Both Legends ❤
Lovely to see this...thank you so much. Bless him...he still seems petrified in front of a live audience....
Scott walker - for me the best singer/ songwriter/ interpreter ever.
His songs are a star in the musical heaven and will shine, eternally.
Beat me to it
Beautiful man beautiful voice ❤️ RIP Scott 💔 Outstanding creator of sound - this award so well deserved - we are still listening 😢👏
He was so humble Rest Easy...😪
I bet the so called singers in the audience wont be remembered like this great legend scott walker
This man has balls, humour, humility and greatness. A worthy recipient. My personal favourite SW album. 'The Drift'.
i think scott 4 is my favourite the drift is a great album though
I also love The Drift. So many endless layers to reveal!
The singer and songwriter from Pulp. He's a nice guy, really loves Walker.

....they were not brothers. They were not related.
Not siblings. John Maus/Walker sadly died in 2011 from liver cancer. Gary Leeds/Walker still lives in England.

Scott emerged from hiding for 2 minutes? Wow.
Was chatting to Iain Lee on Twitch earlier about Scott Walker, and he mentioned about meeting him at the Q Awards. RIP.
The best. Such a small love, is my fave song of Scott's. Xxx
no one seems to have answered your question. farmer in the city, from tilt, and its stunning
I only hope that Scott Walker get the respect due, and soon

Oh God of all Darkness... Mr. Scott fucking Walker!!!
Scott walker was a huge talent
Unnecessary jab at Brian Eno, but otherwise this was awesome.

Pearls before swine.
well said.
You are so right.
Nothing embarrassing about Eno's back catalogue mate. Get yourself in order!
Long overdue to be honoured, what was that song Scott was singing at the end of the clip?

why couldnt jarvis cocker comb his hair for tv...would it dissemble his art-making?

They're asking if that's her because it's weird to think of someone like that being aware of Scott Walker. No offense.
Scott produced her epoch-defining hit "Dirty".

@Krautwerk578 You have to admit though...she does have a great voice!
All that snark, sarcasm and typically awful British set design. No wonder he received the award and left the stage.
