It depends on the type of mango usually kesar and other mango are eaten after cutting with knife while mangoes like rajapoori, etc are eaten like this as they are mostly used to make mango juice 😊
Their are lots of local and wild varieties of mangoes in india, that are eaten like this way, because it's easy to suck juicy pulp than cutting with knife.
Every tradition like eating this type, evolved over times .
Dussehri aam are eaten this way. I've seen everyone in my family eat dussehri and langda aam variety this way.
I’m one of those kids, I eat mango with soy sauce, sometime mango with sugar...this was my experiments as a 6 year old.
When i was 7 years old me and my elder brother planted mango tree ,now every year we get lot of mangoes 😁

There are hundreds of varieties of very very different tasting mangoes from various regions of india - as diverse as india ... so, there isn’t one specific one - in summer we eat atleast on an average some 10-15 types of mangoes - it is THE KING OF FRUITS ...

Actually, we Indians eat mango like the way that the black dressed girl do. The juice flow through our hand and we used to lick our hand and fingers 😁😂and we even eat all the peels. And we even not avoid the seed. We suck it for around half hour 😁😁😁

Mexican mangoes come no where close to Indian mangoes....... at least the ones that come to the US......the sweetness of the Indian mangoes is on another level !
Philippine mangoes are like the Indian ones, looks wise. I think they are 17 levels above the red/ green bigger mangoes that you get in German supermarkets.
I'm from kerala, in our land itself we had 7 different verity of mangotrees are available. Here at least 1000 verity of mangotrees are present in our 10 km radius

You need to specify the variety of mango. There is only one variety of mango that is eaten.like that because of the type of mango.

mango is our means india's national fruit and becuase india is the most agriculturle country so our fruits are even more fresh and it tastes soooooooooooooooooooo goooooooood and like people love to eat and mostly eat watermelon in summer in india instead of watermelon we eat mango and u will mostly find mango,sugar cane and milk drinks and u must try aam ras and mango are called aam in hindi and bengali

There are different types of mangoes in different regions of India, the way you've eaten it is how many people from Uttar Pradesh state of India eat it.. so you've done nothing wrong, it's just perfect and a clean manner to eat mango anywhere anytime without getting your hands sticky

Yes true...my favourite fruit.... but sadly even many indians do not enjoy ripe jackfruit as fruit..... mostly they have the raw ones cooked as a vegetable.

Here is a tip to prevent the skin being torn open while you squeeze:
You mash the top a bit, cut/tear open the black part at the top and then suck a little bit out.
Now, you can start squeezing the rest of the mango with a lot less chance of the skin being torn.
It gives wiggle room for the seed to move while the juice has space to go anywhere.
This is my experience of enjoying mango without making a mess like the german girl.
Mango is king of Fruits in Indian context, have thick skin, basically if you do press all around the flesh become soft like smoothy then just do small hole to then move forward the pulpy out of the hole , just suck, so without any toolkit you basically operate it, not always possible to eat with out removing whole skin of the fruit, but if you do it in the beginning like this it will be less messy... and this practice specially useful when you are on the go outside your house, at home you can chop and have, but still some variety of mangoes are recommended to have like this they are juicy can just squeeze and suck no wastage of fruit because they are the fibre part of the pulp so soft like hair thin so complete fruit can have with zero wastage.
