- Welcome to the ultimate showdown between two titans of off-road performance! Today, we have the 2.8-liter Land Cruiser going head-to-head against the powerhouse V8 Land Cruiser in a thrilling hill climb challenge.
Which engine will reign supreme? The 2.8-liter, known for its efficiency and agility, or the robust V8, built for sheer power and torque? As we watch these legends tackle the steep incline, we’ll see how each vehicle handles the challenging terrain, showcasing their unique strengths.
The 2.8-liter Land Cruiser is nimble, offering precision and control, while the V8 boasts immense power, ready to conquer any obstacle in its path. Will the lighter weight and balanced design of the 2.8-liter give it an edge, or will the brute force of the V8 take the crown?
I wonder about the torque convertor lockup kit and manually setting it in 1st gear if it will help with the downhill speeds. I understand it wont have the same level of engine braking but still wondering if it will help.
It could make a difference but we would have to import a lock up kit ,not sure what it would cost , I know om the pre facelift hiluxes there were guys bringing in the kits and they also made a big difference in power delivery after tuning , since the converter pulls power when it starts slipping
The automatic has a hill descent control right?
@@MartinAlva yes it does , but even with that activated the speed it to high for a steep decent , for example the 2.8s speed is almost the same as the v8 in second gear low range, which makes it a bit to quick for comfort when doing heavy inclines and declines
Hill decent is using the brakes. You go down a decent hill and you’ll have no brakes, they’ll be cooking. Won’t last long in the Victorian high country.
@@willb4314100% hill decent control is useless in the high country
With the 2.8, use low range but then put it in manual selection 1st gear. That should be slow enough.
It is still a bit faster than that of the v8 ,but not enough to cause issues on something like this , but like we said in the vid ,if your are going to do heavy offroading then slower is better
I want to see another when those vehicles have 500,000+ kms on the clock. Toyota's have always had a reputation for reliability over high milages. I wonder if that will continue with these tiny engines.
It wont, since 2016 or so toyota diesel are rarely making it past the 250,000 mark. theyre riding off their old reputation.
@@KenMcKinnon-c4r yes that would be a verry interesting comparison ,unfortunately we still have a long way to go since both vehicles are only on 15k kms
@@arandomm-t8s interesting , in our town alone we have several land cruisers and hilux and fortuner ,even prados with between 400k kms and 600k kms , but yes I do know that there are also guys having issues in less than 15k kms , like with any brand there will be duds which give issues unfortunately
@@maplotter684plenty in oz with very high kms since the 2.8 was introduced in 2016 in the hilux
@@Col.B1 I agree with you , the straight 6 diesel just refuses to die ,if you do maintanence regularly , we have personally had 2 of them reaching 750 000kms as work vehicles ,then one was stolen and we sold the other so they are maybe still going , the v8 I know of two in our town with 600 000kms on and then plenty with 250 000+ kms ,but I am yet to see one pass 700k kms
Dovrebbero abbinare il v8 diesel al cambio automatico sarebbe 🔝
That would have been one of the best combos to have , there are guys here that are doing the rebuild with a 6 speed auto and then the zf 8 speed
A lot of commenters with small, 'you know what' me thinks. They can't get their egos around buying a 2.8 over a V8.
Its not an ego thing ,its preference for eg some guys like Isuzu and others hilux ? You dont tell the isuzu guy he has an ego ? So why do v8 owners have one for liking it more than the 2.8? In my opinion if you want the 2.8 why not buy the hilux for cheaper and have less maintenance costs ? It just makes sense ,but I guess some guys just dont want the v8 cruiser so thats their choice
