I really like the ZV-1. Certainly not a perfect camera but it's a quick and handy little bit of kit when you need it.

I still love the ZV-1 basically for the compact size and video quality. I have since added a Crane M3 gimbal as the ZV-1 stabilization is poor while walking and I get the extra benefit of a wide field of view because I can take the ZV-1 out of Active stabilization. I just like the straight out of camera look of the ZV-1 with the starboard profile.

Looks like you had the "Product showcase" set to on in the studio shots - as it was focusing on the mic and not your face. Right? Yeah - mic was closer to the lens
Yup. ULTIMATE run-n-gun EDC is the ZV-1, RS3 Mini gimbal, DJI Mic(s), and one of DJI's "Mini" drones (2 SE, 3, 4, etc).
ZV-1 is the most versatile camera I've ever owned. It's got line/mic-in, clean HDMI out, power through USB, the very usable ND...
Only knocks are that it's micro-USB and battery life is abysmal. Bring extra batteries or power it over USB.
Lately, I've been looking to get a cheap, run and gun camera that I can take anywhere and not worry about it too much. I got the ZV-1 when it came out, but, then wanted to "move up" to a higher end camera. Eventually, I made my way to the camera I have now, the Sony FX30.
Now I want a camera that I can run and gun with, but can also get some decent footage. All without risking anything happening to my FX30. And the ZV-1 fits that need. As inspiration, I've been watching other videos where some people have captured some really nice video with it. Still thinking about it. But, the ZV-1 is pretty impressive for its size and features.
With the announcement of the zv1 mk2 it’s an even better time now as well, as the new camera isn’t a big update and the used market for the zv1 will be better priced for a throw away cam

Thanks for this video! I already have a ZV-1 and was looking into getting the RS3 Mini. DJI's website says the RS3 mini doesn't support the ZV-1 so it's great to see that you are able to make it work. Question: Any issues balancing it on the RS3 Mini? Did you need to put a cage on it to add some weight? Thanks!
Yes you are exactly right. My guess is they don’t let the CV one is compatible as you need a cage or some kind of counter weight in order to balance it properly because by itself it is a little too late.

@@KurtYue I am using the uurig bottom plate which the link is in the description, I am also using a wireless audio receiver from comica. Both of those are adding enough weight for me.

Thank you for the video! I have an elgato wave 3 mic but unsure how to hook it up the zv1 while recording. How did you hook up your mic?
So there are two ways, one is by putting your mic directly into the cameras 3.5mm microphone jack (which my microphones support) or if your camera has a USB option, to do it that way.
@@ReachFilms i have a sony zv1 and it does have the mic jack but the microphone needs to also be plugged into usb for power right?
@@Mann.withtheplann unfortunately I do not have that specific microphone, however if it is made to be used via USB that I would stick to using it as a USB microphone with your computer

I'm a captain pilot in a private airline and also a user of BMW K1600GT and BMW F700GS motorcycles with Go pro-4, Gopro-8 black and Insta 360 X3 Action cameras I'm shooting amateurs... The Sony ZV1 camera that you introduced among the equipment caught my attention, Sony ZV1F is produced now, I have looked at it a lot on youtube, but I am undecided which one is more suitable for us? I would be very happy if you let me know...

Hi!!! So the ZV-1 is not a replacement for an action camera, so if your intent is to do that, im not sure it would work as well as a GoPro when using on motorcycles cars etc. As far as the ZV-1f... I would stay away, the auto focus is nowhere near as good as the ZV-1 or ZV-1mkII. If you want to go the ZV-1 route you can get great deals on the original camera now also if you need the widest lens I would go with the ZV-1mkII over the ZV-1F

Thank you for this video. I currently have the Iphone 14 pro max and although i am happy with it, i am curious with the sony zv1. I am not a vlogger nor do i plan on taking videos. its more of pictures. Is the sony significantly better at taking photos/ portraits than an iphone? not interested in photos of places/scenery. my focus is people/ family portraits :)
So it’s complicated, the image quality for photos I don’t think is better than an iPhone at this point and time. When the zv1 was first released it was better for photos. The one thing you do get on the zv1 is the different focal lengths you can’t replicate on the iPhone, so you can be more artistic. But unless you are shooting video, the image quality overall is similar
from your experience, this camera is good enough for a two person podcast, when there are two cameras - one camera on each person? The camera does not heat up or stops working after a certain time? I plan to shoot each episode for about an hour.
Yes this camera is perfect for that just remember to keep it powered via usb

I’m looking to buy one camera to start my podcast and as I go along il eventually add another 2 cameras with the one so if I had to get one camera just to start my podcast would this camera be good for it? If not what camera would you recommend?
I would say its almost the perfect podcast camera. Add in a dummy battery and you have a nice setup. It works great for talking head videos. No overheating issues that other cameras can have, from what I remember.
It has three downsides for vloggers, poor battery life, not wide enough lens, and not good enough steady shot when walking around.
1 inch sensor is for 360
It seems to work well for 360 but that is super niche still. I’m hoping we start to see more action cameras using a 1 inch sensor with a 1.8 lens like the zv1. I would pick up so many more GoPros
