Regarding the ND filter, I used my ZV1 for two months in Japan before I remembered I could turn it on. A lot of the photos on sunny days were overexposed, and I know what I need to do next time we go.
Glad I ran into this vid - you definitely got a photog's eye. Love the humor. Keep going! BTW the fake vid shows a lot of talent there, Font is superb and the bethlehem sign angle shot is a wall hanger.
Hey thank you so much! I never get these notifications for some reason. I really appreciate the comment and I'm so happy to hear it was worth your time!
I just bought this tiny little camera couple of days, watching TH-cam about this camera and your video popped up. Thanks for your info coz it is very easy to understand unlike those professionals...... Thanks Corey.
It's a great consumer and average-user camera! Beautiful image quality for both photo and video with enough features to dive into once you feel more comfortable with it! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!
Thanks Corey Nice video. Currently I am shooting with My X3 and I am eyeing on the ZV 1, ZV E10 or Nikon Z30.. For less of a headache I think the ZV 1 is much better option to go with.
The other two might have better image quality perhaps but it's basically impossible to beat the portability and fun-ness of the ZV-1 I think. Did you make a decision on that yet?
Nice little "review" ( i know it wasnt ;) ) but seriously though was nice hanging with you to the steel plant. What an amazing site to have closeby. Would love to have some big abandoned factory like that near me. About the Sony ZV-1 i just recently bought one to use on my channel. Im a photographer and havent filmed that much over the years so while much is very similar of course all the settings and such is a bit mind boggling to be honest. But getting there and it seems like such a nice little companion to film stuff while traveling or making V-Loggs. For me doing some gear videos around photography that AF and "product" showcase feature is great too :) I havent used it at all almost for photography, have so much other stuff for that, what is cool is the size though and the ND filter as you said and some other pretty handy stuff , so i could imagine it being a great little street shooter. Also as a family or vacation camera it is brilliant :) Keep up the good work! /regards Martin. PS, nice hat, oldschool, i used to wear it when i was younger hehe.
Eventually I will own every color of Carhartt hat haha! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! It really is just a fun camera to use. It's definitely more geared to vlogging and video but for photography too, having a 20mp 24-70 that can fit in your back pocket is hard to beat.
I love this camera. I’m a professional photographer but I bought this just to document life and enjoy and take with me everyday. It reminds me of the old school Sony handycam. Open the flip screen, turns on, looks great on auto, sounds good, punches way above its weight. For the price, it’s excellent.
Thanks for watching, and I appreciate that! But your comment made me smile: as the ZV-1 was a gift meant to be simple, I embraced that. Everything was shot on auto white balance, with shutter priority at 1/50, on the default picture profile out of the box! 😄 I would never recommend that for more serious or client work, but it does make for a stress-free and simplified vlogging session. For shots on the Lumix S5 (beginning and at the desk), I do dial in white balance for that. As for the colors, there's an excellent LUT "TH-cam Punch" that I discovered many years ago from TH-camr Caleb Hoover (youtube.com/@CalebHoover) that he gives away for free in a pack. I typically dial it back to about 40-70% intensity to give a little contrast and color contrast. I do more in post with the S5, but for this video on the ZV-1, it was basically AWB with that LUT, and very minor changes in post.
@@JakeMully-xn9hh lol I wish I could tell you, was going to buy used but someone swooped in a bought it before me. Haven't seen a price that good since, so I'm holding off.
Thanks for watching! The opening speaking segment at my desk was shot in 1080p at the widest angle. In 4k when I'm walking around, there's a crop so it's much less wide. The mic at the beginning was the ZV-1, and so it was when I was using the camera out and about (at the end too). Great little setup but I'd personally stick with 1080 to keep the wider angle, or get an attachment!
Nice video! That place looks amazing for some textureporn photography, lot of rust and everything hehe Do you find the lack of viewfinder on ZV1 to be a problem for stills under bright conditions outdoor? You're able to compose and focus properly under those conditions with this screen?
thanks for watching! For stills and 1080p video, I find it to be plenty bright. However, in 4k, the brightness of the screen drastically reduces and it becomes very hard to see your composition or exposure. It must have something to do with power consumption, and the display brightness menu option becomes unavailable. I do trust the autofocus enough to focus where I need it.
Thanks for watching! I'm sure you can, I guess my big issue was that the settings weren't separated (so switching from video mode to photo kept the ND on, and I didn't notice). It'll only really matter if you're doing rapid back and forth between photo and video like I was 🙂
@@coreymullins don’t worry about the money, they just withholding mine too, after years of regular payments suddenly …. But hey that’s why I have a job, too 😂❤️
I did not know the release was different! The white is definitely more attractive but if you're trying to stay low key about taking photos or video in public, it sticks out like a sore thumb
Thank you for checking out the video! As far as I know, the ZV-1 does have a mechanical shutter, but the new ZV-1 II does not. I'd say I probably would miss an EVF or any viewfinder on a camera, but I like hybrid cameras a lot for just that purpose. Not having one might not be an issue on something like the ZV-E1 which is video focused. I will say though that the screen is plenty bright, it only dims when shooting 4k video. An EVF would be really helpful to frame shots quickly in something like street photography, but less important for landscape or architecture.
@@bijosn I don't blame you 😂 of all the bad naming that cameras get, Sony might be the worst offender. I personally would really value a mechanical shutter for photography.

This video is very well made. I love it! Keep up the good work. I just picked up the ZV-E1 so seeing a call back to this camera is super sick!

From 4:44 to 4:57 that's some very impressive deep focus. What focal length and aperture were you using?

Totally agree! Really just a joy to use, and that goes a long way in enjoying the hobby (or job). Thanks for watching Donavan
do you not miss the evf and mechanical shutter for photography?
Nice colors and consistently good skin tones. How’d you nail your white balance on run and gun style vlogging like that?
