This is one of the best camera review channels I have seen. The quality of the video is out of this world. How you don't have a 100k subscribers is beyond my imagination. Keep it up for those of us who can relate and appreciate your content. Thanks a bunch
Thank you so much! I can't express how appreciative I am of a comment like that... I'm really trying to improve my video making skills and put in a lot of time and although I don't have a lot of subscribers, I'm most grateful when people like you take the time out to give me positive feedback and fuel to keep going. A big thanks to you again!!
@@prince2thethrone ha ha... I guess I sort of snuck that in! And amazing, I'm checking out Urantia now and Seth books. Thank you!! I had never heard of them before but I will probably go down that rabbit hole now...
@@prince2thethrone I will definitely consider this, great idea. I don't take a lot of pictures in general but it's something I probably should try to do. Thanks for the idea!
Great video dude. Don’t sweat the vlogging in public thing, it’s awkward for sure and if it doesn’t feel weird that means you have main character syndrome lol (I don’t either). I eventually just stopped trying
Ha ha... I appreciate that and actually that makes me feel a lot better about all of my social anxiety! I do wish I had a little bit of that main character energy though... instead of that side-quest NPC thing that I feel when I try to put a camera near my face in public!! Thanks again
Great video! I don't have the ZV-1 yet (very soon I will have one). I was waiting to see what the ZV-1 Mark II would offer but was very disappointed with what Sony calls an " upgrade " to the ZV-1. The removal of the OIS in the Mark II was what really confused me personally. Glad I waited it out.
Thank you so much, and you are so right...and glad you picked the zv1 over the zv1ii! I am still hoping one day we get a proper upgrade for it... But probably not for a few years now. Hope you love the zv1 as much as I have!!
@@BrianCatalano I sure do hope that the ZV-1 Mark 3 will incorporate the OIS found in the ZV-1 Mark I (or even incorporate IBIS) and a couple of other new features that are not found in either cameras. I predict that the ZV-1 Mark 3 will be announced maybe late 2024 or early 2025. I do hope that one day Sony decides to release a new RX100 camera. Other than that, the ZV-1 will be my next camera!
I took my ZV-1 in pawn shop for ~450$. I filmed 2 full-lenght documentaries(~95% on this ZV-1) for TV and earned ~5000$. I used my FS-700R(with Atomos) and a7 III only on interviews and low light. Also I filmed intro for 1kk budget film series on this camera. Only producers are shocked about size of this camera 😂
Hey Brian, I recently purchased the Sony ZV-1! I haven't gotten into all the features yet, but I'm really impressed with it so far! Thank you for the great video!
Thank you, and I hope you love the zv1 as much as I have...and you are on to something, years later I'm still uncovering new features! It's a great camera to grow with!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it... sometimes I never know if what I'm making is 'good enough', so your feedback really does help in more ways than I can express! Thanks again!!
I've been bouncing between getting another lens for my FX30 or getting a vlog / b-cam / run n gun camera. After seeing the great colors in your video, I'm leaning towards the ZV-1. Having a compact camera that can capture great colors straight out of camera is a great choice. I've also watched your video on the A7Cii. And I'm feeling the same way. I had the A7C once and I really liked it. So, I'm definitely keep my eyes peeled for the release of the A7Cii. I've also subscribed to your channel so I can see what your experience will be like with it as well.
I really appreciate that... Thank you! I have to say, now that I currently own the fx3, a7c, zv-e1, and zv1 (I need to sell at least one of them), and the form factor of the zv1 makes that camera the one I'm least likely to get rid of. It's crazy how good it is for how small it is. So I often would travel with my A7C and could pack my ZV1 right next to it in my sling and it took up very little extra space. Great to have an a and b travel kit. Now, I travel with my ZV-E1 and zv1. This has become my new favorite combo! I really love ZV-E1, so I will always recommend it for people who are also considering the A7C... Or A7Cii. Now if the A7Cii gets the dynamic stabilization, I will probably sell the ZV-E1 for it... as it may be my perfect camera, so I'm looking forward to its announcement, getting my hands on it, and reporting here about it. Long story short, the FX30 and the zv1, if you really are in need of a b-cam, will also be a phenomenal camera combo. Really my only complaint with zv1 is the stabilization and focal range, but both can be fixed (with a wide angle adapter and by using Catalyst Browse). I also wish it had 10bit color, but you can't have everything... I guess. Hope that helps...and thanks again!
Hands down the best review I've seen on this camera! I've been looking to get into photography and video and like the look of the ZV1 or ZV1-F but didn't have all the info I needed until this. Thank you dude 💪
This is a really well-presented and intelligent review that truly stands out from the crowd. Although I appreciate it's not really a 'review' per se - more a checklist of points about the ZV-1 you think people are not fully appreciating or missing the point of entirely. Those with some idea of what they're looking for and why will thoroughly appreciate the salient points you cover about this camera with such fluidity and good sense. For example, as my phone has a 23mm lens and I have a 100mm on my DLSR I already know I'm in the market for something 'in-between' with the flexibility of a 24-70mm lens, which renders most other YT videos screaming "What the BEST compact camera?" completely useless as they try to compare 10 different cameras with 10 totally different focal lengths, some fixed, some zoom! For me anyway, the focal length and max aperture of the lens should be that starting point of every camera review - often it's the last or not mentioned at all! I come from a photography background focal length and f-stops really matter - I guess most vloggers making video reviews for each other (lol!) just don't care and just want whatever everyone else has. Also, very few reviews really take the time and trouble to discuss the built-in sound either - something you do really well here as well. I'm a sound-engineer - so again, this stuff matters to me. Thanks again. Subscribed.
I can't thank you enough for your review of my review! Honestly, I'm not even sure I deserve such praise as your thoughtful comment seems to exceed the quality of my review. Yet, you also land some solid blows about the nature of camera videos here on TH-cam that I hadn't really thought about... So much so, I now hope I too don't fall prey to those cliches in the future. Regardless, I appreciate it... and I do think the ZV1 is a pretty perfect intermediary tool between a full frame camera and our phones. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! Thanks again!!
I LOVE this camera and still use it a LOT in 2022/23! The only thing that could make this camera better is if they added 4K 60. Maybe 10 Bit 4:2:2... And a 16-35ish...
I completely agree and would love all those features! Not sure how many generations ahead of the zv1 we have to go before we get 10bit 4k 60, but hopefully sooner rather than later!
I'm currently using a Sony A7C [I shot most of the videos on my channel with it]. I want to buy a small camera as an addition to my set, and I think I will choose the ZV-1. Great movie!
Hello! It's a terrific B-cam for those purposes... And was my set up for a long time. The A7C and the Zv1! I also recommend a used zve10 for a similar price! Thank you!
Honestly out of the hundreds of camera review videos I've seen over the years this is easily within the top 3! Such an easy to follow, clear and helpful review mate! I particularly like how you where changing up the grading and audio examples to really give us an idea of the differences and I think you may have just swayed me to pick one of these up in the near future. I'll be hoping to use it to help start a Travel/Food TH-cam channel and I think it'll do the job fine. Cheers for all your hard work putting this video together and looking forward to seeing more from you. Regards from Australia!
I appreciate this comment more than you know... Just the fact you watched my review and commented at all, let alone a thorough and thoughtful comment means the world! I hope, when you do get the camera, you love it as much as I have... It's still one of the best purchases I've ever made: so many family memories gathered on it! Thanks again from LA to Oz!
Thank you so much!! Honestly, that helps way more than you know... It's hard to not get burnt out, so your comment definitely helps keep my head up, so I sincerely appreciate it!
Brain, you're crushing it on the camera reviews! The colors look great even if you don't shoot in a log profile. Lake Norman is a cool place. We pass it on our way to Hilton Head. Congrats on passing 700 subs! That's incredible!
Thank you so much Oliver!! I actually picked up some story elements from your videos, where you weave together your vlog with your script... So it was inspired! That's funny that you know of Lake Norman! And thank you with the subs, slowly but surely we climb!!
That's brilliant! Thank you... That's literally the best response I could hope for, so I really appreciate it! Also, killer deal on the M2... Great little gimbal!!
@@BrianCatalano what's your thoughts on this. I have a working Feiyutech G6 Plus but it doesn't connect to the camera so a bit clunky to use together. Does the M2 connect properly to the ZV-1?
@@FFFFelix hmmm, that's a good question... To be honest, I've never tried to link them. In fact, it never even occurred to me to try--maybe because it didn't seem necessary. Yet, now I'm curious and will investigate as soon as I'm able...
After watching your review of the ZV-1 I just had to subscribe. Very easy to follow and objective analysis of the ZV-1. Really appreciated your thoughts regarding the very few limitations of the camera as well.
I really appreciate you watching and taking the time time to comment--made my day--and then subscribe! I really agree, the ZV1 is an amazing camera with very few limitations!
@@thomasw5003 I'm really excited for you... I hope you love the zv1 as much as I have. If you ever feel that your videos are not stable or too shaky, you can use Catalyst Browse who is free. If you're interested, I did a tutorial on it. Best of luck! th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, and you are completely right... practice is the key! In general, I'm fairly socially anxious, so the camera only seems to heighten that for me. Yet, it's really helpful to know that I am not alone in this! Thanks again!
Here's the thing with the ZV1: I keep grabbing it instead of my bigger gear. Unlimited record time. The AF system from the RX100 VII (which was like having an A9). Just a well done camera.
@@davidfirth1 I totally get that... It's such an easy hybrid camera to pick up and keep on you. I think, as a point and shoot, it deserves more of people's attention than some of the other, more trendy cameras.
I'm really happy to hear that. It's such a compact power house! I hope you love the Zv1 as much as I have... and thank you; I appreciate it more than you know!
@@MissingThePoint-hu9iw I totally get that! All I can say is, try to push through and publish. All I do know is that my social anxiety convinces me of something that's absolutely not true, which is... people are far too preoccupied with their own problems to notice what I'm doing... So my fears are usually unfounded. I always worry that people will care what I post or publish, but usually they never even notice 'cause they are worried about their own insecurities (not ours)... So keep going and put your stuff out there! Hope you love the zv1 as much as I have and it helps you get work out there! Best of luck!?
Nice house! Mic level jumps around. Does the sound have a jumpy AGC? Shotgun has sharper sound. 13:42 Next time have Rocco gently wrangling the ducks toward you! Going to review the M2?
Thank you... and my parents home. I think you are right, I think the AGC is jumpy but it could be my editing presets too jumbled across multiple clips. I also agree a shotgun mic is preferred... I have no intention of reviewing the m2 as it seems more like a 1.5. I prefer the original but would happily welcome a true next generation version. Fingers crossed!! Have you picked either zv1's up yet? Thanks for stopping by!
Appreciate that... and I know; I still haven't gotten over it or grown any more comfortable with using my camera in public (unless I'm filming someone else). Thanks again!!

@@STILLONTOP hello, and thank you! As for why it might be shutting off, that's hard to say... What are your record settings (ex: 4k 24fps)? What kind of SD card is in there? Is the camera's temp set to high? Does this happen with different batteries? This never happened with my camera so it's either a settings thing, accessory, or camera might need a repair...
I’ve had the zv-1 for 1 and half years. I’ve had a few issues with it , sometimes it’s hunting for focus and image stabilization . If it had image stabilization that was usable it would beat the comp hands down ! You end up having to do fix image stabilization in FCP. I understand the EV-10 is not much better. Whilst it’s not weather sealed it can withstand getting rained on. For photography it’s also a really useful camera.
I completely agree with that, and it's true, the zv-e10 isn't any better with stabilization, the a7c and 4, are only slightly better, and the fx3 is decent, but it the biggest issue I have with Sony's, but frankly it's sort of an issue with all non action cameras. I do like the m2 crane gimbal, but that does defeat the purpose of the compact size... So I think you're right, when you know its limitations, you probably can enjoy the camera more for what it can do...which is surprisingly a lot!
I picked a Zhiyun Crane V2 gimbal for 75$ second hand off of facebook marketplace. I see them for sale all the time around 100$. Matched with the ZV-1 its amazingly good. I don't use in camera stabilization at all or in post. Brian is definitely right that most Sony cameras have terrible in camera stabilization so its not just the ZV-1. I also had a problem with focus breathing. I have found that if you turn the AF drive speed to normal instead of fast and the AF tracking sensor to responsive instead of standard it mostly eliminates that problem. Instead of rapid hunting its more of a slower smooth transition into focus that looks more cinematic.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the compliment and the sub... I've also had the zv1 for a little over a year and honestly feel like I've only scratched the surface with what it's capable of! Thanks again!
Thank you so much! I can't speak more highly of this camera and if you decide to get one, I hope you like it and use it as much as I have! Thanks again!!
Very nice video😀! I find the final shots at the end very telling…the A7c video is much more stable than the Zf-1. Any comment on that? Seems the zf1 needs a gimbal for stability.
Thank you...and yes, I completely agree. The stabilization is the main problem with most cameras within this price range, even my A7C... However, Sony gives supplies you with a free stabilization software called Catalyst Browse, that is actually easy to use. I should have tested it in this video, but I just ran the experiment, and now I'll probably always use this software: th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html
Great video man! I have been going round in circles trying to work if I should start shooting my future content on a bigger full-frame camera, my phone or just stick with my old Canon 600D, I'm glad I saw this as I think I've made my mind up now. Really great quality content, keep it up!
That's amazing! I'm really happy I could help you settle on a camera, and I hope you love it as much as I have. It's crazy how affordable it is for how solid the quality is... It's a perfect content creator's tool as it's as compact as the phone but way better to work with in post. Best of luck and thank you!!
I completely agree, the zv1 even with it's stability on is dreadful... yet, this video came out at a time where catalyst browse was super glitchy and was not working with my M1 Mac. However, nowadays it works flawlessly and quickly, and if I could go back in time, I'd fix it. I have made a video on the topic sense, but it is the biggest weakness of the camera for me!
@@BrianCatalano thank you so much, I will find and watch that video. I'm looking for a vlogging camera and I'm debating if the catalyst browse is an option for me. I had hoped that the enhanced stabilization in camera was enough 🙏.
@@thebentzenable it's a great camera for that and if you don't mind using Catalyst Browse which is free, then it's a fantastic value. Here's my experience with it: th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html However, maybe it's worth considering an action cam to vlog on, like a GoPro or even the DJI pocket 3!
I really appreciate that!! I'm sort of just starting out, so I never really know if I'm doing it right or headed in the right direction, so your comment helps more than you know... Thanks again!!
Thank you. Very useful product comparison ZV1 vs zv1f. i bought the zv1 a few years back and sadly havent used it much yet. I never thought of putting an xlr mike on the top hot shoe of the ZV1. Looks funky all right ! :) So .... I just came across a hi end Canon C300 with a huge xlr/monitor hotshoe on it and thout that it would look really odd on the ZV1...but unfortunately its not a Sony...the Canon has proprietary xlr cables that plug into the proprietary port on the camera. ( I am a total novice and couldnt resist getting a $600 Canon cinema camera this week which used to be $20k)
Wow, a c300 for $600 that's amazing!! I would use that instead of the zv1, too! Having XLR module on the camera is an amazing bonus... are you enjoying shooting with the c300? Does it have any quirks?
@@BrianCatalano Hi....actually it didnt come with a lens (I need the more expensive PL Mount cinema lens). I almost bought 3 Canon C300s with the E mount to use on TH-cam but it finally sold before I made up my mind on price.
Not worth it, unless you want to vloging only, but for this reason a good action camera is maybe a better choice. The main reasons: the ZV-1 has a weak battery, the optics are not wide enough, the image stabilizer is not very robust, the telescopic opening and closing optics lead to mechanical failure over time.
That's a fair critique and perspective... I own both a GoPro and this and as soon as I bought the zv-1, I stopped using the action cam except for using it for underwater or pov shots. The image quality is leaps ahead on the zv1 but you're right, the stabilization is not great nor is the focal range wide enough. I would say the zv1ii solves a lot of those issues, but it's still limited by the small sensor size. I still use it though because I can pocket it and it's far better than my phone, but would not recommend this for somebody who does want to take videography more seriously.
Yoo, this video is hot! I watched the whole thing and am going to back and watch again to see the points I missed! I've been using the Ulanzi selfie stick on my ZV-1, but you have given me an idea to try the Zhiyun M2! I have a Zhiyun Weebil S or something like that, but it is overkill for the ZV-1. I use it most on the S3 or A74. Anyways, this video was perfect for me to watch while eating dinner. Keep them coming and I will keep watching! Hahaha
Thank you for watching it all...as I know it's a long one! I started working on it and realized my first cut was 25 min and not 12 as I hoped (oops), so this was the shortest I could make it. I guess I just had a lot to say about it. I really do love that little guy, but yeah the m2 crane is super small and easy to travel with. My a7c even fit on it (but don't fully recommend). I didn't realize you had the a7s3 and a74, too!?
@@BrianCatalano Hey, the video turned out well! Long content is also good as we can have more information and not feel rushed while watching!:) Okay, you already convinced to give a look at the M2. @@francoismarc3 but you got the a7s3, so you're envious of the body of the fx3? Which is fair enough, it was the body's finish and form factor that caused me to go into debt temporarily, but I'm envious of your a74! I think that 33mp sensor with his video specs is the perfect sweet spot for hybrids.
Thank you so much!! I will definitely be doing more zv1 content. My most recent color grading and picture profiles videos were mostly Zv1 related if you want to check those out. Thanks again...and more vids are on the way!
Really nice vid and extremely informative. Thanks dude! I recently started creating YT videos for fun and currently use my 5yr old Android phone. The ZV1 has been on my radar for a couple of months now and am thinking it could be my next new toy 😬 It ticks a lot of boxes for me. Especially as a noob learning the ropes.

LOL. you just changed the title!!! But anyhow still good review. Don’t worry about not talking to the camera in public or at an airport specifically. It just means your NOT inclined to be one of those obnoxious people.
By the way, love the way your review things one of the best in class. I owned the Sony ZV-1 and can't wait to dive into the setting and learn it. This is my first time working with not auto mode. So excited to see how far this little camera is going to teach me to use proper high-end cameras.
Thank you, I really appreciate that, and I really hope you like the camera as much as I have. It's such a capable device that it can help you go from casual hobbyist to experienced photo/videography pretty quickly! Best of luck!

That's fantastic...and I also bought my ZV1 from eBay. It's a great camera to learn. Nothing wrong with the ZV1, I picked one up at a pawn shop for 200 bucks and it shoots pretty much like my A6000. For TH-cam vids it's perfect. I might not shoot a wedding with it, but for vlogging, it rocks
if u have zv1 and a74 and u absolutely dont wanna do any color grading . .. . how would u setup your pp or picture style for both cameras to match as close as possible?
Great question!! This is what I had been doing (I made a custom picture profile that I called z-Cinetone for the 8 bit cameras) to match it with S-Cinetone on the 10 bit cameras. Here's how I did it: th-cam.com/video/2f4Cp4dMWuo/w-d-xo.html
Could you do a video explaining the advantages, if any, of using the ZV-1 vs a phone (such as the latest iPhone, Samsung etc) for new content creators like me (who aren’t as familiar yet with SS, ISO, S-LOG etc). I’m trying to figure out if the next upgrade from a phone is the ZV-1 or ZV-E10, or if the bigger improvement will be the A7C and FX-30 etc. The attraction for me for the ZV-1 is that it seems as simple and easy to use as a phone. But I don’t know if there’ll be an improvement in video quality or the kind of shots I can take. Is it shooting in log? Would appreciate this greatly.
That's a great question and worthy of a video and will definitely consider it... Yet, what I can say briefly is that if I were you, I would get the zv1 as it's substantially a better image than a phone and way more versatile because of the lens...and you get real depth of field as compared to software generated. It's also a great way to learn how to use a "real" camera... and it's portable. You could dive right into getting a Sony A7C, but it's a much more costly experiment but still relatively the same learning curve. Sony menus can be difficult but first putting it in auto and tinkering around, you can learn it fairly quickly. My wife makes content on her iPhone 13, and it's a nightmare trying to edit the files and get enough light into the sensor. I should gift her my ZV1, but I love it too much.
Thank you, I really appreciate it!! Yes, the LUT is in the description of this video, along with how I use it: th-cam.com/video/mz6cIjVAGsA/w-d-xo.html Thanks again!
@@fotbulnufc great question but sorry, I don't know for sure. Hopefully someone who does may see your comment... My guess though is that it would not work as a product like the Pocket 3 basically has the transmitter built in whereas a non DJI product would not have that tech in it. I can't think of any camera that does either...
Brian, well…I just picked up a new (open box missing dead cat & cable) Sony ZV-1 for $ 499 yesterday. Ya think I did good ? Was going crazy trying to decide. Battery life, wide angle, usb-c etc… I decided the ZV-1 for the price of the ZV-1f gave me options Sony’s latest offering didn’t have. While the ZV e-10 is tempting, I think this will be realistically the $weet spot for a retired History teacher making updates on the road with the dog & trailer for my family. Thanks for the great videos. It is appreciated. AND anything more you can add for those of us in the ZV-1 world will certainly be valued. Hey, I have my fingers crossed about Sony firmware updates. What would you like to see them add for the ZV-1 or am I dreaming. And will this great little camera be forgotten? Thanks again!
I'm legitimately excited for you and that's a great deal! I bought mine used for $550 with no dead cat either... And I'm always contemplating getting the zv-e10 as it's such a great deal too. Yet, being able to pocket the zv1 with that zoom range versatility is better than it should be. The ZV1-F has too many limitations for me, but I could imagine it would be great for others! I have a color grading tutorial that I just did, a custom picture profile video, and an audio video for the Zv1 (with some of my other cameras too as comparison)... All within the last few months. I definitely will continue to make more zv1 content though! As for firmware updates, I really don't see it in the cards, but I could be wrong. Sony is very slow and strange with how they dole out or don't firmware updates. I think the software is pretty maxed out for what it is capable of doing. I really hope you enjoy this camera as much as I have and you get some good pics and video of your pup! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Thanks for the video! Which camera do you recommend between the Sony ZV1 and the Sony ZV 1F for videos on TH-cam where I play the guitar and for some holiday photos?
That's a great question! Yet for me, I would take the zv1 over the zv1f for a bunch of reasons, but mainly the zoom range and the zv1 is better for photography because you can shoot in RAW. I think the zv1 is even preferred for me over the zv1ii.
I wanted to love the ZV1 but had overheating issues with it (set on high) poor battery life and tricky to get the lens back to a very specific mm position without being able to manually focus (maybe some setting allows you to manually select this?).
I'm sorry to hear that... I definitely can see how the battery life and difficulty setting manual focus is as you have to customize the dials to be able to do that but it's almost not worth it. However, I've never had overheating issues... So I'm wondering if you have a camera that needs repair or some other issue like third party battery or bad memory card could be the problem. Yet, I have a really cheap memory card and third party batteries in it and again no issues for me. Hmmm?
Thank you! Greetings from Los Angeles... And I completely agree with the shaky footage. It was completely user error. I hadn't set up the gimbal right and I was zoomed all the way out at 70mm chasing ducks. It was not an ideal scenario. You can easily get much better results with a minimal amount more effort! Thanks again!
That's a good point! However, I have yet to buy any lens adapters for the zv1...but you're right, once you get a filter thread on it, you can use any ND that you might want!
Thanks man but I got a quetion. so I'm going to spend off my money and invest on a camera, my budget range is between 1000$ - 1500$. now should I buy the sony zv 1 or zv e10 mark ii cuz I'm just starting out, I do have a sony a6000 but I sell it on eBay in minus condition. let me know bout your thoughts!
@@TIMMYASSHIP1234-iq7mm that's a good question... If I were you with that budget, I'd definitely consider the zve10ii or a6700 with the kit lens over the zv1. It's a far superior camera and a better investment in my opinion!
zv-1 forces me to be better because i can't hide the background with bokeh, it really stepped up my composition by always incorporating the background into my shot
That's a really interesting take! I completely get that...as I also think I take better pictures with my phone because I am almost entirely worrying about composition but I didn't fully understand why until now, so thank you!! I might need to use my ZV1 more now for photos
@@BrianCatalano yeah, when i get back to my bigger sensor camera, i found myself to be a lot more deliberate with my composition and even stepped down my lenses to not hide the background in blur, it really helped me to consider my environment
@@ericfernando4296 I love that, I'm definitely going to try that approach. I know I get hooked on that fast wide open aperture look, but it can be a crutch that does not always serve the scene... So thank you for that little perspective shift!
@@BrianCatalano I recently found out one more "hidden" feature because everyone assume ZV-1 is mostly for video. ZV-1 inherits leaf shutter from RX100 so it has a flash sync speed up to 1/2000. It doesn't seem to work well with Godox trigger though, but it works flawlessly with on camera flash. This is a feature that you can't find in interchangeable lens camera except some medium format, but we all know how much that thing costs.
@@ericfernando4296 I had no idea of that either! You are completely right, the zv1 is overlooked as a tool for photography by most people... Including myself!! I've been thinking of maybe doing a video on this subject!
That's a good question... Obviously the gimbal is probably a better option for multiple reasons since the Zv1s stabilization is not great. Yet, having a remote is nice too. I have this remote for half the price of Sony's remote: th-cam.com/video/HyjUBRzi7BU/w-d-xo.html It's build quality is not as great, but for what it does, it's more than good enough. The crane M2 was my first good gimbal for the Zv1 and I love it. However, I now just use Catalyst Because to stabilize my footage and I might just buy the wide angle adapter and use that more. I tested it here: th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html I personally didn't feel the vlogging kit accessories the best value, so I chose the gimbal instead and then got that aodelan shooting grip remote instead.
That's a good question! I would not recommend for off-roading because it's not very weather resistant and the footage is not very stable. I would recommend a GoPro. I have the Hero9 which is still great and I have taken mine into the ocean. There's also the insta360, but I think GoPro's are easier to use and perfect for action shots because it's so durable and the footage is really smooth. You might know all this, but if you don't...
@Brian Catalano I have 2 hero 11's and they are great but unfortunately have no zoom features....so when I'm not close to the action it doesn't get the videos I really want.....what would you recommend for that?
@@carportoffroad Well, then maybe I might recommend a bridge camera like this Canon: amzn.to/3qvYprH. I am not precisely sure what kind of weather sealing it has, but it's zoom range is massive, and I imagine it's more durable!
@@stuartferguson7947 I know that's crazy! It does seem that the chip shortage has resolved itself a bit, and a bunch of new cameras that we probably don't need are on the horizon!
That's a great question and I suppose the answer is likely very specific for you personally... If you want to learn photography or videography... And/or want to get more serious into filmmaking, color grading, and editing then I'd say the Zv1 is a great step into that direction from the phone. The s22 can do some really interesting things with software that the Sony can't, so in some ways if you push your phone to its limit, you still could very much be a videographer with a phone. When I'm traveling, I will often take pictures with both my camera and my phone just in case... but the main advantage of a camera with a lens is getting 'real' depth of field (blurry backgrounds) and better lowlight performance. My wife is a content creator who uses her iPhone 13, and it's great but I'm recommending that if she wants to take it to the next level she should invest in a camera because, especially in video or RAW photos, the zv1 is much better. Sorry if that confuses you more, but it just depends on what you want to shoot. The majority of times, the phone is enough... until it isn't.
@@BrianCatalano hmm I love my s22 but I always wanted a camera thing is it cost the same as my phone does but in the future I plan to do more vlogging and hopefully start a channel maybe but even if I don't I just want to see some differences I guess does the zv1 shoot in 4k60
@@kindsplash21 I can fully understand all that... The zv1 however does not shoot in 4k 60, to get that with any camera, you are looking at an extra $1000 (be it Canon, Sony, Lumix, Fuji). There is a full frame zv1 coming out soon that will have 4k 60, but it will be an extra $2000. Maybe just use your phone for a bit, get your workflow going and see if there's any issue that your having that would require you to upgrade. Or get the zv1 and learn that way (you'll need a few extra batteries) and see if you later want to upgrade after that to a bigger camera, and in the interim you'll have learned how to use a proper camera. That knowledge is priceless and can be generalized across higher end cameras.
@@BrianCatalano wow I'm new the camera world I'm amazed the zv1 doesn't come with that especially at rhat price pretty interesting how much it cost to get something as basic as that I won't be able to get a camera soon anyway but I'll definitely keep this in mind thank you
@@kindsplash21 you're welcome, and I totally understand that. It's tricky because when you compare specs on paper, phones seem to be so much better, but it's really all about the size of the sensor regarding specs. The good thing is, phones and cameras are getting better and cheaper (value of what you get vs the cost) each day... So not really any bad options out there!
@@codythep no, you are right on... The stabilization is the weakest part of this camera, and the most common complaint with this video, and I agree. At the time, Sony's free software, Catalyst Browse wasn't working well, so I didn't stabilize the footage in post, as I would now. That being said, the ibis and active stabilization were on, it's just not great. I also wasn't being very careful and why I also recommend that cheap gimbal for serious video use...
hey brian your my go to guy for cameras ive been latly looking at zv e10 what would you say is it worth it vs zv1 i currently have canon m50 and am not liking it
Hey, thank you so much... And I do think the zve10 is both a big step up from the zv1 and better in many ways over the m50. For the price, I think it's the best camera on the market...and there's so many great lens options now for APSC. The only draw back is its lack of stability... So for vlogging, you will want to stabilize it in post (but not much different than the zv1). All in all though, I think it's a great purchase!
I wanted the Canon SX740 due to the zoom, but was also looking at the ZV1. The issue is I cant find the SX740 anywhere online or retail location. Let me ask you is it a huge learning cirve to go from Canon menu to Sony menu? I currently have a Canon SX530 and you cant beat the 50X zoom, but the camera is a bit bulky for travel, which is what I want the sx740 or ZV1 for. I am just concerned about the zoom range or the menu on the Sony being too complicated. I have only really ever had Nikon and Canon. Can ayone help me out here as far as commenting on the zoom and the menu? Thanks
That's a great question and hard to fully answer as I think it really depends on how flexible one is. I currently have a canon camera, a Nikon, a Fuji, a GoPro, DJI mini 2, my Google pixel 8 pro, and two Sony's right now... And it's always a pain to toggle between them because all their menu systems are so different. Yet, for me I sort of enjoy trying to learn new systems and like the challenge. The newer Sony's are the best for me, but the zv1 has the older Sony menu which isn't awful but takes a bit to get used to. However, with the zv1 it's still one of the easiest cameras to just pick up and shoot if you don't mind everything in intelligent auto and then you can slowly adjust as you learn more. So it's hard to say if it will be a huge learning curve for you in particular, but for me, it's been worth it! Hope that helps!
@@jensz9360 I mean the sx740's zoom range is crazy good and unmatched for it's size... And if zoom range is your priority then looking into a bridge camera might be the way to go, but the zv1 is a better hybrid point and shoot if you don't mind it's more moderate zoom range. Tough to compare the two though as again, it's hard to know what your focus is (what you shoot) or what your needs are in a camera!?
@@BrianCatalano Mainly city scenery at night and some during the day (70% night 30% day) is what I wil be using it for. Also maybe to film birds and other animals. So versatility is good, but dont want to deal with tons of bulk and lenses. I have EOS R5 and its become a pain to haul around. The SX530 is basically a bridge camera, but kind of a little bulky , which is why I was looking for a more compact camera with some of the capabilities. The ZV1 seems to check most boxes except for zoom. What is the actual zoom range on it? Also I was looking and seems that time lapse function requires more work than a Canon that basically does it for you. This is what makes me nervous about getting into the Sony brand, sems like it might be complicated. Cameras like Fuji and Canon are more intuitive as far as menus and useability. I was hoping they would come up with something more substantial for the ZV but all they did was the ZV1 F which is rather useless unless you are vlogging. The ZV1-II doesnt seem to address lack of zoom. Seems like cameras are being created more for vlogging than actual photography. Doesnt sem like anyone is really making any big moves in the compact category. The SSX was a good line but Canon jut stopped after the SX740. They failed to bring anything new. If I cant get the SX740 I might just go with teh ZV1 and as you said, learn a bit and who know maybe I will transition into a Sony camera person.
@@jensz9360 i can definitely understand your struggle... You are looking for a camera that doesn't quite exist yet, so in some way you'll be pleased with either choice and also disappointed with either's limitations. The zv1s range is 24-70 which is for a good standard zoom range but compared to a bridge camera, feels rather limited. I wish I had a clear cut answer for you, but I've loved the zv1, but my needs are a bit different.
I'm looking for an affordable point and shoot for concerts. I want to be able to take stills and videos. I'm a beginner and I really don't know what I am doing yet. I came across this camera because I was looking at used Sony px-100 vi. I have issues with my iPhone 13 Pro taking decent pics and videos of concerts because of the lights, movement and whatnot. Help.
That's a very good and difficult question because it's an extremely difficult environment for a point and shoot or a phone because both the Sony ZV1 and the rx-100 are one inch sensors, so they are not great in lowlight. However, they will both be generally better than the phone. The zv1's advantages will be better autofocus, better video, better picture profiles and a brighter lens... so slightly better lowlight performance. The rx100, has a much more versatile zoom lens, so probably works well in whatever seat you are in at a concert. However, the Sony ZV-E10 with a zoom lens of like 55-100mm would be a better option because it has an even bigger, APSC, sized sensor. Usually the bigger the sensor the better, especially for shooting at night. Yet, then you have to pay more for a better lens. I wish you could rent each of these cameras and test them out yourself because it's hard to describe completely what your limitations will be without knowing what the precise conditions are and what is the exact end result you are looking for... But I might lean towards the rx-100 just for the telephoto zoom lens. I apologize if that wasn't as helpful as you might need! Let me know what you decide on...
Great video. Makes me wanna hit buy now. By the way, you mentioned your thoughts on using it with a gimbal. How is that Sony tripod remote though? Is it worth it to pay the 100-150 extra?
Thank you so much... And I completely get you, I tried so hard not to buy it for so long, but it's crazy how good it is for the price! However, not sure if you heard but there may be a new version of this camera coming later this summer. Yet, it'll probably be more expensive, and I'm not sure if it will be dramatically better... might just be a rumor, but worth mentioning. As for the remote tripod, I chose to save money and get this one, instead of the Sony: th-cam.com/video/HyjUBRzi7BU/w-d-xo.html
@@BrianCatalano that’s some cool insight I had no idea about and didn’t expect to hear in response. Nice guy. I’m just looking to buy it off marketplace used around 500 ideally with tripod but now I can feel much better about finding a deal without that Sony tripod and getting that other one. Just thinking this cam will be much easier to use than the canon m50 within small rig cage with mic and light and all that feels so awkward when holding sideways for ig vid making. What model cam is that new one supposed to be anyways? If you ever have any easy recording solution for recording IG vids that I won’t have to mount or hold sideways, lmk.
@@Istaygrilling that's smart... I bought mine used too. I do think it's better than the m50 and just easier to pick up and shoot. I believe they make some cages that allow you to quickly change orientations, from landscape to vertical videos. Yet, I haven't bought one, I can't recommend one specifically. I believe the new zv1 will probably be called simply the ZV-1ii , but that's just a guess as well. I probably won't get it because again the zv1 is still great! Best of luck and I hope you love the camera as much as I have!
I completely agree! I'd love a 960fps 1080p one day in the ZV4 (or whatever)... But also true, the battery life is bad, however, I have so many of them and they're so small that it usually isn't a huge problem.
The stabilization was on for most of it, and you're right it is an issue with almost every non action camera under $4k or $2k. However, which I apologize for not testing, there is a free software by Sony called Catalyst Browse that, for free, will stabilize all the footage. Or, you can use the cheap M2 gimbal. Currently it's just a limitation for most cameras, there's either supper warpy digital stabilization or insufficient in-body-image-stabilization or a combination of each. This is why I have two gimbals and use one even on my $4k camera. You can stabilize in post in other ways, but I chose to keep it as is. You can get an action camera or use your phone but you won't get depth of field. It's an annoying trade off!
I'm not sure if you watched the rest of that video, but I did have the internal ND on in that clip and was changing the shutter speed to illustrate how to modify exposure that way. I'm not sure about you but 2 stops of ND is usually my starting point, so it's tricky when it's internal. Most of my VNDs are within the 2 to 9 stops range, so if I need a filter on, I'm probably turning to at minimum 4--especially in direct sunlight. I also, personally never adjust exposure with aperture unless I'm trying to bring both the foreground and background into focus or if I've run out of stops... Hence using shutter speed. Yet, I think everybody has different techniques to managing exposure, so whatever works for you is great! Thanks for taking the time to interject as I know you've done well with your zv1!
I just got my ZV1 at the end of last year and I was worried that the ZV1 M2 was going to be a huge upgrade. It’s not. I love the 24-70, and the 1.8-2.8 is great. To me, the lack of slow mo, combined with the F4 at the long end, is a downgrade.
I couldn't agree more... I was thankful that it wasn't a real upgrade at all, so I didn't feel the need to pick up the mark 2 either. I'd still recommend to anyone, if given a choice, still pick up the original zv1--especially for how cheap you can pick up a used copy now!
The shakeness give me eyepain when watching... I'm planning to get the ZV1 strictly for travel photos as this camera is most affordable now with a lot of punch when considering the competition. But I woldn't use it to vlog with it without a ghimbal. Gonna put a variable ND + CPL on it though.
I completely get all that... The stabilization is truly the worst part of the camera. However, I made this video prior to Catalyst Browse becoming as good as it is now, so what I would do would be get the wide angle adapter and stabilize everything in post... If I didn't want to put it on the gimbal. That all being said, it's still an amazing value for what it can do; it's hard to beat the price... especially if you get it used!
Yes, my whole review of the zv1 where it's indicated was either all shot on the zv1 or my talking head portions were shot on the Sony A7C. Yes, I love my GoPro too for how stable the hyper-smooth mode is! Yet, what action cams gain in stability they lose in image quality, lowlight performance, and ability to capture depth of field. In a perfect world somebody would combine the two... However, check out my most recent video, Sony gives you a free app that stabilizes your footage called Catalyst Browse... So you can get almost action cam smoothness with the image quality of a real camera with a fast aperture: th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html
@@BrianCatalano awesome, what are your thoughts on the old GH5? there are plenty of them still kicking around, second hand and many TH-camrs swear by them; great video stabilization, but again a little short on low light videos. I guess Sony's reply was a7iii but for some odd reasons, a lot of people still use the GH5. I wish there was a camera that would cover it all :-) I guess we are stuck with a few choices depending on the scene. thx
@@gregoz6 the GH5 is probably the best camera in that range for stabilization, I think because it's micro four thirds. It's much harder to get that stability with a full frame sensor. I'd personally prefer the larger sensor, better lowlight performance and better autofocus of the Sony A7iii or A7C (even better autofocus) and get a gimbal or use Catalyst Browse. However, the Lumix is a fantastic camera with a great image and codecs. You probably couldn't make a bad choice out of the bunch.
Thank you for this video. I currently have the Iphone 14 pro max and although i am happy with it, i am curious with the sony zv1. I am not a vlogger nor do i plan on taking videos. its more of pictures. Is the sony significantly better at taking photos/ portraits than an iphone? not interested in photos of places/scenery. my focus is people/ family portraits :)
Great question! I think the zv1 is significantly better than the iphone 14 at taking portraits or landscape pictures. However, the caveat is it's significantly harder to produce those better images. Yet, it is possible to learn quickly how to take better shots and learn lighting if you're motivated. My suggestion though if you really want to take better pictures, is get the Sony ZV-E10, which is about the same price for the body and then either buy the kit lens or invest in a good and fast portrait lens... The bigger sensor will allow you to get much better pictures with more depth of field, making it look more professional...and for not a lot more money. Hope that helps!
I am looking for a b cam for my FX3. I shoot slog3 24 fps 10 bit. I need a b cam to shoot some videos and photos of food in restaurants, so low light (but i have a pocket light) while my A cam is on a tri pod. My considerations are ZV-1, fx30 and a74. I like the price and compact factor of zv-1. Im not sure how the color of it will work with Cine EI of FX3. Somebody suggest fx30 because i dont need to buy new batteries and its is like a younger brother to fx30. A74 performs well in low light according to my research and good for photos too. Im not worried abt high temp bcoz i wont be using it for a long time. I dont like that it is more expensive lol. May I please ask which would you reccomend and why?
That's a great question and something I've constantly asked myself because my current set up is: A-cam- FX3, B-cam- ZV-E1, C-cam- A7C, & D-cam- ZV1... But I am in the process of selling my A7C and to pick up the A7CII (and then maybe sell my ZV-E1). However, the perfect B-cam, for me now, to my FX3 is the ZV-E1 because they share a sensor, but I only use my ZV-E1 in short bursts for pick-up shots in case it overheats...even though I've never had it overheat with a regular use. Yet, I really love having my FX3 rigged up and my ZV-E1 as compact as possible to take on the go. That all being said, probably the safest choice may be the FX30 because it has a fan and it will match well with the FX30, but it has worse dynamic range and rolling shutter performance. The A74 is a brilliant camera too but can also overheat but not likely in 4k 24... It may also be worth looking into a used A7s3 as it's been pretty cheap lately and it's a workhorse! As far as c-cam the zv1 is great but it does not compare well to any of the above cams... So, I'd probably say the FX30 is a great, dependable valued camera but that or the a7s3, ZVE1 and a74 would all work too and there's not a bad cam on that list! Does that make sense? Hope that helped and didn't confuse you even more!
@@BrianCatalano Yes that makes sense. Thank you for your well thought out and detailed explanation. The funny thing is now you made looked further into zv e1 too. I like how compact it is. In that time, most of the videos I have posted here have been about the zve1. My A7C vs ZV-E1 video you may find useful: th-cam.com/video/teF2Y7wkG54/w-d-xo.html Yet, I have had and loved the a74 and am looking forward to buying the A7Cii soon because that sensor is for me the most perfect hybrid sensor, so maybe it's worth waiting a few weeks until the A7Cii comes out as it's possible that there will be more a74s on the used market... Good time to scoop one of those up! I know a lot of creators who toggle between the FX3 and A74 as they match well together. You get the sharpness of the a74 and lowlight capabilities of the fx3... Good video. In real terms, how long will the battery last when shooting video while walking around on vacation? How many spare batteries do I need to carry each day (as I don't want to have to keep returning to hotel room to charge the battery)?
That's a great question, and I think the battery life depends on a few variables, but I imagine you're like me, shooting in 4k in intervals (not keeping it running) then it will last you a few hours. I have three extra batteries which were honestly so cheap and came with a three charging station, and they are all so small that you could fit a dozen in your pocket. So in total I have four with me at all time on vacation and am not worried about losing juice...more filling up a memory card (I recommend a 128g or 64g v30 card). I think a few spare batteries and a big memory card, and you're good to go!
I have a question here in regards yo the battery back up.... One could connect a powerbank to the A6300 and keep filming....could z1 do the same too?..also, is …$300 worth it in 2024?.@@BrianCatalano
@@motionoftheocean7524 yes you can trickle charger with a dummy battery which is a super cheap solution to run it all day... also $300 is a fantastic deal!! Check this guy out: th-cam.com/video/j0uI7Q3VNfU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=T57Lgp20osCbFhgh
Yes, the issue with any current budget camera is stabilization, frankly only my $4000 camera has good in-body stabilization. However, you can stabilize any footage with any editing software (like Resolve), but you will have to crop in so on the zv1 with active stabilization and then stabilized in post, you're depth of field at the widest will be around 30mm--which is tight for vlogging! The final solution is that Sony has their own post-processing stabilization called Catalyst Browse, and it works miracles on jittery footage... And it's free! It just takes time... Hence why I don't use it often, but it will fix your shaky shots!
Hello!! Thank you so much... I really appreciate that, and hello from Los Angeles! My wife is of Indian descent--just curious, where in India do you live?
I completely agree! It's definitely the limitations of the camera and sadly any non-action cam under $2k... That's why I made this and highly recommend using catalyst browse to fix the stabilization: th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html I since have bought the ZV-E1 because of the dynamic stabilization in camera and it's hard to go back, but Catalyst Browse is free and works great!
Yes, the battery life is not great, but it really depends on how you use the camera. If you're travelling with it and just taking clips here or there in 4k then it's ok, but I always carry 3 extra batteries (which are super cheap and tiny, like you could fit a half dozen in your pocket). Yet, if you're live streaming or shooting long intervals like a podcast, there's work arounds like connecting it to a power bank and then it will run for as big as your memory card is, roughly speaking. Now, the in camera mic is the best part, I did test it out in the video, but it also has a hot shoe so you can connect a bunch of different mics into it... Or just run a cheap shotgun mic into and plug it into the 3.5mm audio jack. My second to most recent video on my channel "Cheap Mics", I tested mics into the zv1 if you want to check it out... The camera has limitations (as one would expect for the price point) but it also a lot of workarounds.
@@BrianCatalano I appreciate the in-depth response. Thank you. I am wanting to do a lot of filming for Fitness and travelling, the battery life is something that could frustrate me BUT for an “entry” level vlogging camera this could still be one I look to get, especially because of the workarounds with the external mic & additional batteries I can buy. You’ve help me a lot. Thank you.
@@nayfworld4572 you're welcome... I do think for the price it's hard to beat the quality and compact versatility. It does seem then running it through a power bank might be the best option... But swapping batteries isn't too much of a hassle either. Best of luck!

Man your videos are amazing….rich in colours, sound, music scores, and editing. Hat of to you man. You know how worth is ZV1 . Thank you
Thank you so much!!
I really appreciate it...and glad this helped! Both are great choices, so I hope you like the zv1 as much as I have!
This review is all I needed, I have seen like a dozen and they are not that special. Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much! I was curious if the world even needed another review (but I love the zv1), so honestly that means a lot!!
Hey man, keep it up. The numbers will come this is quality and the effort is obvious. Appreciate it!

Very impressed with the image quality of the ZV-1 in your review. Excellent review.
Thank you so much... I really appreciate it! Yes, the zv1 is really capable--it's still a great camera!
Great review. On vlogging in public and talking, it takes practice. I sometimes get nervous as well.
You got me into buying one of those in 2023. Nice review, thanks!
I'm really happy to hear that. It's such a compact power house! I hope you love the Zv1 as much as I have... and thank you; I appreciate it more than you know!
I'm shy to vlog in public as well so most of my videos (80%) never end up published in my channel lol Ordered one and cant wait to see it in few days
@@BrianCatalano Thank you! I'll need it hehe Have an amazing day and keep up with the good videos ! :)
Great video. Trying to make some videos myself and talking / filming in public is not easy.
Appreciate that... and I know; I still haven't gotten over it or grown any more comfortable with using my camera in public (unless I'm filming someone else). Thanks again!!
I just bought zv1 last week after comparing with other zv1f, zv1ii, & zve10ii. zv1 still is great.
I couldn't agree more... Zv1 is the best value in the bunch, in my opinion, especially if you can get it used or on discount!

Many thanks for a really good and imformative and well planed video.
Thank you so much... I really appreciate it!!
@@canwefixit8129 that's actually a great idea/fix... I'm going to try that! Thank you!!

I should have tested it in this video, but I just ran the experiment, and now I'll probably always use this software:

This was truly a dope video. I thank you so much , very informative. Awesome keep it up!!

You should start on your phone. It's easier to use and will have better stabilization. Plus it's always in your pocket.
That was unbelievable shaky 🙈🙈 did you use any stabilization at all? Thanks for the video.
Here's my experience with it:
th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html
However, maybe it's worth considering an action cam to vlog on, like a GoPro or even the DJI pocket 3!

Definitely still worth it. You’re killing it bro!! When it’s over for my a73, I think I’ll get the IV
Thank you! You still using your 7s3 too!?
Long content is also good as we can have more information and not feel rushed while watching!:) Okay, you already convinced to give a look at the M2. if u have zv1 and a74 and u absolutely dont wanna do any color grading . .. . how would u setup your pp or picture style for both cameras to match as close as possible?
Thank you for the response.

Amazing video and review! I think it’s definitely still worth it

@@BrianCatalano thanks so much! You are very kind!
@@quieora1789 best of luck and let me know what you decide and first impressions when you get the camera in your hand!
Hmmm?
Great video!
Thank you so much... I really appreciate it!
Thank you. Nice video.
The gimbal duck shots are bit jittery though.
Greetings from Jakarta.
@@BrianCatalano thank you for replying
You can used an Nd filter that’s actually make s mount for it.
That's a good point! However, I have yet to buy any lens adapters for the zv1...but you're right, once you get a filter thread on it, you can use any ND that you might want!
Great video Brian 👍🏻 I love my small ZV1 😍 although I have a professional FX6 😂
I love your combination so much! It's really the best of both worlds!!
@@BrianCatalano but now when I have the ZVE1 I will give the small ZV1 to my sons 😉 but I think they love their iPhones and don’t need a normal cam 🙈
Would you recommend the ZHIYUN Crane M2 over the Sony Vlogging Kit for around the same price?
That's a good question... Obviously the gimbal is probably a better option for multiple reasons since the Zv1s stabilization is not great. Yet, having a remote is nice too. I have this remote for half the price of Sony's remote:
th-cam.com/video/HyjUBRzi7BU/w-d-xo.html
It's build quality is not as great, but for what it does, it's more than good enough.
The crane M2 was my first good gimbal for the Zv1 and I love it. However, I now just use Catalyst Because to stabilize my footage and I might just buy the wide angle adapter and use that more. I tested it here:
th-cam.com/video/k16BcvDj0Uo/w-d-xo.html
I personally didn't feel the vlogging kit accessories the best value, so I chose the gimbal instead and then got that aodelan shooting grip remote instead.
Is this water resistant? And would you recommend for shooting offroad content?
If your willing to spent a few more $$ the RX100 VII offers so much more, we own both and I know which one I prefer to use.
I completely agree! Yet, did you hear the rumor that the new zv1 mark ii might be announced at the end of May (from Sony Alpha Rumors)?
@@BrianCatalano - yes, lots of rumours about new products, it’s been a while, I’ve had my A6600 3 years and it’s still the latest model
@@stuartferguson7947 I know that's crazy! It does seem that the chip shortage has resolved itself a bit, and a bunch of new cameras that we probably don't need are on the horizon!
I have a s22 do you think it's worth getting a camera when phone ones are so good
That's a great question and I suppose the answer is likely very specific for you personally...
So not really any bad options out there!
ro! No one is saying anything about how shakey your handheld footage is, but I must!! Do you have ibis turned off??
Shoutout to the Kyballion tho
@@codythep no, you are right on... The stabilization is the weakest part of this camera, and the most common complaint with this video, and I agree. At the time, Sony's free software, Catalyst Browse wasn't working well, so I didn't stabilize the footage in post, as I would now. That being said, the ibis and active stabilization were on, it's just not great. I also wasn't being very careful and why I also recommend that cheap gimbal for serious video use...
@@codythep good eye!!
hey brian your my go to guy for cameras ive been latly looking at zv e10 what would you say is it worth it vs zv1 i currently have canon m50 and am not liking it
Hey, thank you so much...
@BrianCatalano thank you for reply boss man god bless. keep up the good work.
@@YuriyDtv I really appreciate you... Thanks again!!
@@BrianCatalano Thanks for the reply. What about the zoom range?
Let me know what you decide on...

thank you i just bought my ZV1 today!
Amazing! I hope you love it as much as I have!!

My big camera's don't do High Frame Rate.
The big down size is the short battery life. Bring batteries or tether.
I completely agree! I'd love a 960fps 1080p one day in the ZV4 (or whatever)... But also true, the battery life is bad, however, I have so many of them and they're so small that it usually isn't a huge problem.
Was stabilisation off, why is it so shaky?
Hey man great video .
Thank you Bryan!!
2:32 - Use INTERNAL ND and APERTURE, man! 😒
Nice review
Thank you... I really appreciate it!!
Hey there, have you recorded this video with zv-1? Because it’s noticeably shaking unlike my simple GoPro 10.
So you can get almost action cam smoothness with the image quality of a real camera with a fast aperture:

A74 is a strong contender for me because half of my b roll shots are photos.

@@swanhtet1 I really appreciate that and sincerely thank you...and glad I could help... Or almost help, as I threw in another camera for you to consider!
I have been using the ZV-E1 almost every day for the last four months and have really been loving it and surprisingly been using it to take photos with it as well... In that time, most of the videos I have posted here have been about the zve1. My A7C vs ZV-E1 video you may find useful: th-cam.com/video/teF2Y7wkG54/w-d-xo.html
Yet, I have had and loved the a74 and am looking forward to buying the A7Cii soon because that sensor is for me the most perfect hybrid sensor, so maybe it's worth waiting a few weeks until the A7Cii comes out as it's possible that there will be more a74s on the used market... Good time to scoop one of those up!
I know a lot of creators who toggle between the FX3 and A74 as they match well together. You get the sharpness of the a74 and lowlight capabilities of the fx3... Pretty much the best that Sony has on offer now!
...so I think your instincts are right on here!
@@BrianCatalano Thank you sir! I will wait for A7Cii to come out to make the final decision. I have also watched your A7C vs ZV-E1 video which is quite informative.
@@BrianCatalano thanks so much for your quick and very helpful reply. That is good enough to make me want to save up to buy this camera. Best wishes.

It's pretty jittery. Can you stabilize the footage in davinci resolve?
Great question, thank you!
Hi Brian Love your videos from India 💌
Hello!! Thank you so much... I really appreciate that, and hello from Los Angeles! My wife is of Indian descent--just curious, where in India do you live?
Its too shaky when u move the video shake a lot
I completely agree! It's definitely the limitations of the camera and sadly any non-action cam under $2k... That's why I made this and highly recommend using catalyst browse to fix the stabilization:

I since have bought the ZV-E1 because of the dynamic stabilization in camera and it's hard to go back, but Catalyst Browse is free and works great!
I heard the battery life on these is rubbish though? Roughly 1hr of filming in 4K? Is that right? Can you use an external mic with it?
