😮IMPRESSIONS: So far, I like the new Bugs 4W. It folds up nicely and is fairly compact (although I've seen smaller and lighter). It's a smooth flyer, but not one of the fastest MJX birds I've tested. It's packed with features and has a NICE price tag for similar quadcopters. I didn't get to do the MAX RANGE TEST yet, but will be posting that on the channel, coming soon. I also forgot to mention, the B4W's camera is NEW and it shoots in 2K. I'll play around with it a bit more, become more familiar with it and her ADVANCED FEATURES, then do another COMPLETE REVIEW. Although in this video I said I thought "this quad is slow," you have to consider, it's designed to be a HD Camera bird. The camera shoots up to 2K video, but at only 20fps, therefore (I'm assuming), they would have to slow down the bird to avoid dropping too many frames during video shoots, as you've seen before, when the quad flies faster than the camera shoots... (if that makes any sense!) I'll be doing more reviews on her COMING SOON guys, and of course, Eric & I will be doing the famous "Soul Force Quads" Range Test!!! POW!!! -djsoulforce!
A very good initial review my brotha. I have over a dozen drones 3 Phantoms, 1 Mavic, several smaller Bugs, Hubsan and XK drones. Here is my take on this latest MJX offering. Everyone is griping on about the camera and 2 - axis gimbal. Could it be better yes? I realize there is some concern regarding the controller battery capacity but just use some eneloop or Ladda batteries or other high quality brands. However in the overall scheme of things [I think] you get quite a lot for the price point. I am seriously considering this bird [based on your final review of course]. Why? It would be great [Mavic equivalent] beaters drone that I could do things with that I wouldn't with my Mavic [Go fishing for instance] and the fly more combo price is extremely impressive.

I like the fact that your having fun no matter what. Look forward to the range test. I knew the FPV would be the same as the other bugs. But that can be fixed with simple antenna mod. And yes your right, they do slow down camera birds. Mostly so there is no hard braking when slowing down. That kinda of stuff looks awful when watching the video. Thanks for the quick look. I sure hope it has more to offer then the bugs 3.

Hi again buddy. I have just bought a Bugs 4 and love. Had a couple of issues. I find sticks to sensitive even in LOW mode. Other day I took it out and at a distance of 30 or 40 meters transmitter started bleeping saying signal was lost and returned to home. It did it when going upwards too. I think parameter settings are set at lowest. Can you permanently change and save these or do you have to change on each flight? I know in setting you can type a different number in to make distance further. What happens if you just high-lite each bar green on the app, will that make it fly as far as you want to?
Once you set the parameters, they should stay the same. No need to change for each flight. Check to make sure you are not in beginner's mode! Let me know how it goes, good luck & thanks for watching!!!
I keep my B4W in low mode, is that what you mean by beginner mode buddy? as High mode is too quick on the stick.. Pushing the stick gently is still like John Wayne's finger on a pistol.. Lol!!!!! Wind and rain in UK my friend, so no chance of testing. But when I played indoors just with transmitter and phone, after turning off it went back to default. Others say I have to do it each time I fly
In the app settings - turn OFF the max distance and max height feature and it will default to max range & height! Good luck!!!

Seems really stable and she looks great. Sure wish the camera would film more than 20fps at 2k. That's bad even if it is not moving lol. Wi-Fi fpv range is disappointing but I'm going to wait for your full review before I come to any final conclusions. Thanks again DJ!

The original Bugs 3, hands down the most fun to fly!!! It's also the easiest to modify or add your own camera!!! POW!!!

Thanks for the videos, I upvoted! Just bought the mjx bugs 4w and my map won't update, it's blank, how do I get it to work on my bugs go app?
Sorry, I just got this message. First, go into your phone's security settings and make sure you turn on "location." Then, without using the Bugs Go App, open Google Maps. It should open up a map of your location, look for arrow pointing to your location. Save that map and you should be able to use it off line. Let me know if that works. Good luck!!!
Good first maiden test Darryl, i am surprised it only takes 2 AA batteries for the tx, makes me wonder if it would hit the 1.6km claimed range they are saying with not much power out of the remote! Also that tx looks very similar to the SJRC F11 i just received for review, (only done an overview as it's been raining here, It is winter here atm) and similarities even in the design of both these quads.
I look forward to trying this one soon, I will be hopefully getting the Eachine EX3 model once it's in stock from BG. Cheers for sharing POW!
Thanks for watching buddy and your feedback. I don't have the F11 (yet) but seems the only difference in the controllers are the Bugs 4W has a display with telemetry and the F11 does not, meaning you must use a mobile device with the F11. Happy flying bro, stay warm!!!

Nice review, thank you. Do you have any information how to activate the headless mode on this drone? According to specifications it has headless mod, but I don't see how to turn it on.
Very good question! I have gone over the user's manual again and I could not find any specifications or switches for Headless Mode. I don't think it has it, but I'm not sure (I never use headless mode!). If I find any information, I will let you know. Thanks for watching and your question!!!

Since I'm new to drones, I was hoping that the headless mode would make it easier learning to control it, but every now and then I hear that people don't use it, like you, or say that the headless mode usually doesn't work well. What's it about the headless mode, from your experience? Why people don't like it if it's easier to control it?
For us "old school" pilots, we don't use headless mode because it doesn't really improve your pilot skills (easier isn't always better!) and it's not a good learning tool for beginner pilots. To use headless mode is like "cheating" and DOES NOT TEACH you basic pilot skills like establishing drone orientation at a distance and "how to save" your quadcopter in the event that you loose orientation while flying long range. To answer your first question, "I don't think that that bird has headless mode, and it's not listed as one of the features!" Good luck and thanks for watching!!! 👍👍

Real nice flight DJ, I did order the quad after your sneak peek review because I did see a couple of other reviews and it seem to perform pretty good. I want to see how it compares to the SJRC F11.
I think it's a good flyer, I'm just a little disappointed with the slow frame rate (20fps) for the 2K camera. Looks like I'll have to get me a SJRC F11 to compare it too, I'm getting a lot of questions about that very same subject!!! Thanks for the feedback brother!!! Maybe you will let me know how it compares when you get your Bugs 4W and I can pass on the information to the guys. One thing I noticed right away is the F11 doesn't have a display on the remote controller making it necessary to use your phone for telemetry. (is that correct?)

Can you use other bugs controllers with it? Such as the bugs 5 controller, with the pitch control for the camera. Also, I don't think the bugs 5 has more than one speed. Pity.

Well, let me start off by saying that I watched a couple other reviews a few days back, just to get an idea of what a Bugs 4W is all about. Video results on those reviews were about equal to yours, which is not good. The video looks about equal to what I get with an 808 Keychain camera. I think that its a combination of poor quality lens, low frame rate (20fps) and a focal length optimized to about 10 feet. When you pointed the camera down while it was close to the ground, the video resolution seemed better. The Xiaomi YI had the same problem. It was set up from the factory to be optimized for a distance of about 2 meters .. which made any distant video look lousy (so most guys, myself included, refocused the lens to get better results). I think it does have a beginners mode, which limits range, etc. Not sure if that's the default. You'll have to run thru all your options on the App to see what's up. You might consider using your Nvidia Shield with a "Mavic tablet adapter" so that it fits to that TX .. it will be easier to see telemetry details and will probably function better than your phone. I agree, it does not hold up the "Bugs" sporty flight as seen on most Bugs quads. Now if you really want 'sporty', if Santa can bring you an Evo for Christmas, you can put that bird into "Ludicrous Mode" and fly at 45 mph ... that should be fast enough for you (but not good for taking real cinematic video). I'm sure you're going to work with it a bit and get back to us with another video. I really think that the onboard video of the 2W is the best of the MJX so called 'camera birds'. I think they put all the value in a pivoting camera and some sensors on this 4W. Looking forward to your next. POW!
I really didn't expect much from a MJX camera but I did expect it to be a better flyer. I agree with you about the Bugs 2W's camera, coupled with the Bugs 2W flight performance, I'll stick with old faitful!!! Thanks for the comment bro!!!
Nice job, Buddy! I’m starting to think MJX is resting on its laurels. Hoping we will keep buying the new stuff cuz the old was good. Anyway... you do manage to squeeze uses out of their products by adding 58mghz AIOs n such and simply taking advantage of whatever good qualities you can find in a drone. (Good range or whatever) MJX should give you a medal, reward, Job and high moniker... such as (King Bugs Mayer Dr. DJ Soul Force Magical Use Finder) ha ha!

I think it was a waste for MJX to put a 2K camera in a Bugs, but it only records a 20fps. Everyone knows that if it's a Bugs, you're gonna want to fly the pants off of it, so you'll need a faster camera! I'll have to check all of the camera specs in the App to see if maybe I can lower the resolution to 1080P and get a faster frame rate. More test to come, stay tuned my brother from another mother!!! POW!!!
I got the bugs 3 Pro and the bugs 5w so I think I will pass on this for now, maybe when it comes down. It looks nice, that 2 batteries is surprising.
I also have a Bugs 3 Pro, this new Bugs 4W feels just like it. I'm thinking this is just a Bugs 3 Pro in a new shell. At any rate, MJX needs to come up with new names for their new drones and lay the Bugs to rest! Thanks for stopping by Bryan and your comments.

Hey DJSF, appreciate yer honesty as always. Good initial review, and I agree ya get whatcha pay for. For the money whats sportier then their{mjx} B3, whats a more reasonable {decent} gps quad then the B2 line? Best of both worlds sporty camera types B6 and B8 pro. Every thing else, mjx must still be trying to build the perfect quad? Retailers are always trying to offer something new to temp the consumer. Just my thoughts.. dj my new bugs 4w will not start up do you need to hold down the red button lower left and turn the power button on at the same time to connect the drone wtith the conntroller..i did not try that yet.thats the only thing i did not try that yet.im stumped thats my question.help me out on this one.cannot get this bird to connect maybe its defective.
You shouldn't have to bind it to controller, but since it's not working, go ahead and try it. Hold down red button, turn on transmitter. Light on transmitter should be flashing. Turn on quadcopter, listen for a beep and the light on TX should turn solid. Turn everything off and restart. You should only need to bind it once. Good luck, let me know how it turns out!!!

That's a very good question! Answer: the picnic tables are not level as I found out one day when I laid a cigarette down for a second, looked for it and it was gone!!! The picnic tables also have metal frames & screws which could possibly interfere with the compass calibrations... POW!!! Thanks for watching and the feedback brother!!!

Hi, great video Sir. I had Hubsan H501S standard model and with being a newbie pilot loved it and never took it out of GPS mode. On only about 15th flight she just dropped from the sky without warning and smashed. Both transmitter and drone battery were full. Anyway I was gutted as it was a hobby that did not put strain on my body and was relaxing to do. I have had life saving operations in 2010 and follow ups in 2012 so this was a perfect hobby for me just like my Lock Picking I do on TH-cam. Anyway even though on a very low budget I am currently saving for another drone and was thinking of the H501S Advanced with better controller as would have spare parts from my basic H501. I really like the look of your drone here as it folds up but heard good and bad things so torn up on what to do as do not want to spend money on a drone I will be disappointed in. I also liked my hubsan as screen on transmitter which gave better distance rather than phone on the transmitter. Camera quality also maybe better on hubsan, not sure. Any advice greatly appreciated for this newbie pilot ;o)
I suggest the Hubsan over the MJX. If you shop carefully, you will find the H501s Advanced has dropped in price and is very competitively priced these days!!! Good luck.

I spent the last hour typing a reply and hit the wrong button and pow.. gone just like that... Kind of like what might happen to your 501s if you get another one? I have been out of the loop for a while but.. The 501s is a fantastic package and oh how I wish it did not give out on me so many many times, I have never taken one out more than 600 meters,, i dreamed about getting 1,000 like many of our friends but i think I wont be trying it any time soon with a 501s. I have confidence in my bugs 2 gps and the camera sucks but she has fallen only once. heck i came hear to ask about this bugs 4 w, How come it looks just like the jjrc x11? and why do they both look like the sjrc F11 dji wanna be? I was hoping somebody would tell me that the F11pro camera is really good for the price and the thing fly's well and has strong gps reliability .
Hi buddy. I am hoping that the newer H501 Advanced with the better controller has updated software to stop any glitched. I would have though if its the newer advanced one it will be a lot better. I once had my basic hubsan 280 meters high and would not climb any higher. I have a couple of hubsan videos on my TH-cam lock picking channel and in one of those videos I get the hubsan up to 240 meters. Footage is great even though it was a night flight. When I knew I had footage I wanted I just clicked RTH and she came straight back. Loved the way she flew, so nice to fly.

The factory suggest not more than 32gb. I usually put a 16gb card in my Bugs, the video files are not that large and I can get several flights in and record video before downloading the video. Good luck, thanks for watching!!!

Hello, best regards, I have an MJX BUGS 4W drone, it collides with a tree and then the drone does not synchronize with the control, how can I reset the control, factory mode?
Try re-binding your transmitter. Turn on drone. Hold down the red button on your transmitter while switching on the transmitter power button. Lights will flash... Let go of red button, then you should hear a beep, lights stop flashing, binding complete. Good luck, thanks for watching!!!

@@jhonsonnunez9105 I'm not sure what control you're trying to reset? There is only a "re-bind" the remote controller to the drone process as I stated above. Have you tried that yet???
i have my bugs just like that i tried to return to the seller because the remote controll just dies off even with a fresh super strong brand new alkaline batteries..the drone drifts uncontrollably..

Nice first look and that first flight where you get a feel for the quad. You're right about the naming structure, they should call the camera birds something different. Or maybe they should make a real camera bird before they release anything that goes slow. The camera quality looked ok from your video, but come on MJX this is mid 2019, and your still releasing camera drones that don't have any image stabilization. and charging over a $150 for them. You can get a Fimi A3 with a 2 axis mechanical gimbal for only $229. I really don't know what MJX was thinking of, don't they don't check out the competition? I look forward to your range test and for review, maybe I'm being too hard on this new BUGS.

I lost FPV at 110 m... how can I get more range out of my bw4?
Are you talking about FPV range, or control range? As seen in this video, th-cam.com/video/zFJcTwYqt0M/w-d-xo.html, the Bugs 4W can fly out over 1000 meters, however, wifi FPV range will vary according to your mobile device. To get more FPV range, I suggest using a 5.8ghz FPV camera system similar to the one I used in that video. I will add links in the description of this video for where to get the camera - only cost around $16 bucks!!! Good luck, thanks for watching!!!

Check the settings in the app for "max distance" and turn it off to get maximum range. If that doesn't work, you're having antenna issues. Let me know how it goes.

It more or less the same! The Bugs 4W adds Optical Flow Sensors and Ultrasonic Sensors, but we still have yet to see if it's worth it or not!!! Also, with the Bugs 4W, the camera has been upgraded to 2K video, but so far, it doesn't seem to be that much better than the Bugs 5W 1080p camera!!! Lastly, I think the Bugs 5W is faster and more sportier... POW!!!

Yes birdman, I'm still flying FPV. I've been mostly flying my ET115 v.2 and a modified Bugs 3 with an AIO in the nose of the bird. Also, I'm occassionally flying my Emax Tinyhawk around indoors along with some other brushed motor tiny whoops, but the indoor videos aren't that great. It's been a little too windy to get out and fly FPV here lately, but I have been running my r/c trucks with AIO's on them!!! (just as much fun😎) Thanks for stopping by and the comments. POW!!!
Hi nice video. I just got a bugs 4w. But if i put a sd card in it. I can't watch any of the video it has recorded but i can see the picture I've taken. And it will not record on my phone. If i remove the sd card the video will record to my phone. What am i doing wrong. Please help. Thank you
Not 100% sure, but try this... To record on SD card, use the transmitter's video record button to start and stop video. (do not use the phone app to start/stop video if there is a SD card inserted.) If there is no SD card inserted, which ever method you use to start/stop the video, it will be stored on your mobile device. Let me know how it goes.

Following this thread. I recently purchased an X21 from Bayangtoys for my paranormal group as it'll support our modified GoPro cam for night vision and full spectrum use, but found I need to get a standalone wifi fpv action cam for regular use for it as the stock one sucks the battery life down... That being said I really want to invest in a folding drone in the $300 to $350USD range with a gimbal for personal use and rail fanning. I'm torn between this, the F11 Pro, the X11, the zino, or the c-fly obtain (tho I've seen a ton of mixed reviews, none current however or any revisits with updated firmware), or the fimi x8 se(again mixed reviews). Would love to hear others input.
Based upon you wish list, my vote is the Zino or the Fimi X8. The other drones you listed do not have real gimbals, just motors to point the camera up & down, no stabilization. After a series of firmware updates, the Zino is now a great camera bird. Good luck with your decision & happy shopping!!!

as old as this is , i just snagged one with 3 batterys for 28.00, i do not plan on fpv because i still dont believe in wi fi and needing my phone to fly. my phone is a head ache. I would be really pleased if \i could get this to work with the bugs 2 non wi fi controller. as much as i rag on bugs 3 the bugs 2 is still my most confident gps bird.. if it was a hubsan it would have fell out the sky and gone missing by now. Okay you r really starting to bum me out. This is my first drone . I have been a subscriber since day one. Never know one which bugs to buy. Watch the couple videos they said they were good now I'm wondering if I should send this thing back LOL
Didn't mean to bum you out buddy. If this is your first Bugs, you'll enjoy it. In this video, if I sounded a little disappointed, it's only because I've tested every other Bugs on the market and I'm a little bias towards the Bugs 2W, one of my favorites. The Bugs 4W is a great value for the price and it's features and it's a smooth flyer. I'm more of a sport flyer nut myself so don't take my word for it!!! I decided ime going to save up and get a more expensive drone, with a proper gimble so I can do some propper ariel video I have had my time with cheap drones.
I hear ya bro, we all move up eventually. I have quite a extensive fleet of quadcopters, ranging from Syma X5 (toy grade) to the Bugs family and on to the DJI Mavic Pro plus more!!! My theroy is, have a bird for whatever the conditions call for... and of course, a couple of sport flyers as well. (never too many quads!!!) Happy flying bro!!!
@@DJSOULFORCE Its a bit of a con really with micro electronics macking circuit boards 2 a penny today, they could easily bring a cheap drone out with a proper gimble if they really wanted to, but they no it would effect the market everyone would be buying that, there not daft the toy companies they no what people want.

That's a good question bro! I just checked the user's manual and I couldn't find anything on how to activate headless mode. I'm not sure, but I don't think this drone has headless mode. Not sure bro, sorry! I don't use headless mode, that's why I didn't discover this during my review! Thanks for watching and your question.

Only one beer...! Dude you're gonna need a lot more than just one beer to review this one ... LOL. Ok, it's not the worst drone but it obviously isn't the best either and it is really a questionable release in 2019. The 20fps video makes *no* sense. 5.8ghz Wifi (which isn't even stable on this quad) is so old and tired at this point when you have drones like the FIMI A3 coming in with 5.8ghz Analog signals for around $200 with some specials... MJX needs to try harder, or price this one around $120 and no more. I think.... you're right, this is the Bugs 3 inside a folding drone's body. They added an LiHV battery which is really the main reason for the longer flight time -- nothing special. I've also seen this quad in what appears to be a rebrand under JJRC as the X11, you can actually get it cheaper sometimes under the JJRC brand. It makes me wonder if MJX even "makes" their own unique drones anymore or are they too now just rebranding things and selling them. And what you said about the naming at 18:20? Yeah they are really riding the "Bugs" brand name because of their one-hit wonder for as long as they possibly can. Anything new and they are going to call it a Bugs. I don't blame them, but they're not doing themselves any favors to keep releasing models like this either, and it's confusing to their customer base. Imagine how silly it would be if DJI released every new drone and called it a Mavic or a Spark... LOL.

I said before to other videos and I say it again: in my eyes MJX has lost its direction. For one thing this drone is quite the same as a few others and similar to even more others. Secondly that 2k camera with 20 frames per second is a nonsense, that one should not fly this thing fast proves that. The last distinguished and really good drone for its time ( time is flying for these kind of things) by MJX was the Bugs 5. Changing its appearance just a bit , giving it a two axis gimbal and placing it below $200 would make it a real winner. Too bad they lost direction...
MJX makes good flyers, but they're not winning any awards for design & looks, lol!!! It also seems like the camera on their birds are the last item on their checklist... I just don't get it(?) Thanks for watching and the feedback buddy! POW!!!
