Wasnt the name Sauron given to him by his foes? I am not sure, but I believe I read in The Two Towers that Sauron himself doesnt call himself that. Sarumans orcs had an S painted on their armors. Gimli or Legolas suggested that the S stands for Sauron. Aragorn (or Legolas) replied that he doesnt call himself that.
It's interesting to see how Sauron, or Mairon, was troubled within himself. Perhaps it was all a ruse on his part, but I'd like to believe he truly wants to do good in his own twisted way.
"Wants to do good in his own twisted way" is literally Sauron's character - he values order above all else, no matter the cost. He is defeated, claims he repents and is compelled to return to Valar and go before Manwe and receive his repentance and judgment. He chooses to flee to the Far East instead. So I would say that as far as the show goes to try and paint him in a more sympathetic light, he remains what he always has been: Sauron the deceiver. The player of the long game.

I really like what they've done with Sauron. Halbrand is so very likeable. It was always hard to imagine how the wise Elves could have been tricked for so long. Well, now we know. It was vital that the audience gets to experience that feeling for themselves: to feel that they've warmed to someone who is merely using them. It's fascinating, too, to watch these clips and wonder just how much Halbrand/Sauron is telling the truth. About being penitent. At times he really seems to mean it. My theory is that, as an evil being, he simply does not understand goodness. He WANTS to be good, but it's a power beyond him. He thinks being good is just saying the right things and taking the right side. He's the psychopath who says sorry but never truly understands what it was he did wrong. And that's his tragedy. He'll never know why he failed at being good.
The thing about Sauron was he was actually a being with good intentions right from the start. He understands good, just not wholly. His vision was to organize and bring order to all of Arda, in a grand scale. What he doesn't understand is how little things also is good. To him, anything smaller than grand unification was merely a tool. And his actions to him were a necessary evil for what he perceived to be a noble purpose. And so, as time passed, he fell further in further to evil because of what he did in his ambitions.
Everyone can interpret Season1 how they want, but I did not see him deceiving Galadriel all along, he repeatedly and consistently tried to stay away from Middle Earth and her plans. When he did join her he went all in fighting her enemies and helping her, even later helping the Elves with their project. Since we aren't following the books by the letter, I think it's less than clear that he is actually gaining anything by working with the Elven smiths of Eregion at this point.

I absolutely loved his arc in this show, and I thought the show was great as a whole. The only thing I wish they did different was waiting to reveal Sauron's identity. I know it was becoming pretty obvious that Halbrand was Sauron, but everything coming to fruition kind of felt a bit rushed to me. I wish they took more time for Mordor to be created and for his actual plan to be enacted. Allowed him to be king for a little while and win over his people. Made room for him to develop an even deeper bond, "trust," and even kindred love with Galadriel. I guess it depends on where the show takes his character, especially since they seem to be taking the stance that he actually was trying to repent and avoid Middle Earth but was thrown back into the darkness inadvertently by Galadriel. But right now, it feels like something they could have let sit a little longer.
He wants order because he believes chaos to be the truest evil. To achieve the power necessary to bring about the order he seeks, he takes after Morgoth, because he recognizes Morgoth’s power as a great tool for constructing the order he desires. Unification under one ruler. One Middle Earth. One Nation.
What a plottwist. The Dude who is interessted in Celebrimbors smithing art and is a master smith himself is Sauron?! The Dude who looks like Gandalf is Gandalf!? In season 2 we will find out that Galadriel is THE Galadriel from LOTR!
This is a good edit. Sauron was the only character I actually enjoyed in this show. The actor did a good job despite the writing. I actually sympathized with him.
I really love this world, the world created by Tolkien. Long before this series, I was thinking about the path of becoming Sauron. And I'm glad that this series gave me a chance to see this little line between good and evil, where Galadriel and Sauron inspire each other, bring each other back to life. So that everyone goes their own way.. The path of evil and good, the amazing line between these worlds. Evil helps good, and good helps evil, they are united in their despair so much that love is practically born..
"I have been awake since before the breaking of the first silence. In that time, I have had many names", my fav quote of all time. i know who he is before it was revealed at season finale. i'll wait for his arrival.
You say it was obvious but I never considered it. Of course, I don't go to forums or read tweets about a show while it's on, because I know in the past I kept reading theories that ended up spoiling stuff, so I stopped doing that.
"You bind me to light, and i bind you to power" I feel like this is important line because the one rings idea was binding people in the darkness. I feel like Sauron was offering Galadriel a way to defeat Sauron by making him a good person "bind me to the light" and that in order to do that galadriel had to be okay with being his queen "Bind you to power" Galadriel saw this as a perversion, where she thinks that if she's bound to power, he would corrupt her. But i think maybe this isn't truly what could have happened if she had said yes and forgiven him of his past sins. It's worth noting that a 3rd option, is that this line is a lie and its all a deception...where Sauron is just super super evil beyond redemption.
This edit seems to blame Galadriel for his transition…but, “You gave him everything he wanted and then thanked him for it.” I like the edit in spite of that though, because it also could show how he tried to slowly brought Galadriel to the edge of being turned to him.
For those who have never read Tolkien's works and have only seen the Prime Video series, they think it was all very good. From the point of view of aesthetics, photography and special effects: yes! It was wonderful. However, for me, the script choices were terrible. The change of Sauron's name when he helped forge the rings of power in Lindon, assisting Celebrimbor, from Annatar to Halbrand: why? No sense at all. Galadriel's story is nonsensical. Tolkien never said that Galadriel was in Númenor when she was in Middle-earth. Furthermore, he was a High Noldor, he would never have needed Gil-Galad's permission to return to the Undying Lands (in fact, not even Gil Galad had this power, which was the Valar's alone). The arrival of the Istari on a comet tearing through the sky? What the fuck! Although they couldn't use the story of The Silmarillion or The Lord of the Rings in the saga (due to copyright issues), they had to make the story AT LEAST make sense in relation to the first and third eras.
Absolutely fantastic! I would love to see a remake when more seasons come out so we have more content of Sauron to add to this. Sadly his appearances in the Jackson films dont quite add a lot of content to tributes...

Nobody could have seen this 😂
😂😂😂😂
keep dreaming...theres no way galadriel from the series is galadriel from the books :D
Great edit. Look forward to more Charlie Vickers as Sauron.
In Italy we say, "Piango anche l'acqua del battesimo." This video is a masterpiece, thank you!!! ♥
Thank you so much !!
Credo di non aver mai trovato un commento più puntuale di questo su YT 😂
In Greece we say "είσαι πολύ όμορφη και σε αγαπώ πολύ". ❤
In Hungary we say: ez a videó egy remekmű, köszönöm! ☺️
In that time, I have had many names", my fav quote of all time. i know who he is before it was revealed at season finale. i'll wait for his arrival.
love how this reveal was totally a surprise... did they have Pulitzer prize winning writers to disguise it so well? the world may never know
This edit is better than the whole show.
This is S tier. Please make more sauron edit 🙏
You say it was obvious but I never considered it. Of course, I don't go to forums or read tweets about a show while it's on, because I know in the past I kept reading theories that ended up spoiling stuff, so I stopped doing that.
Wow this was actually brilliantly done
This time I stand for Sauron [doge].
This is my favorite, best done Halbrand/Sauron video
BEAUTIFUL video.....
thank youuuuuu
this edit is better than the whole show. They should remake the way they handle the elves in the upcoming seasons.
This edit is just brilliant ❤
This feels like watching anakin skywalker slowly transforming into darth vader
Amazing work... Congrats this edit is awesome!
She should have accepted and ruled with him together Middle Earth, would have been best and prevented another wars. Light and Power.
10/10 video, watched it like 5 times.
an amazing video befitting the true lord of the rings
Maybe Sauron wasn‘t that evil, maybe just misunderstood…
Damn, this epic edit almost makes the show look good...
“Identify what it is your opponent fears. And give them a means of mastering it.”
Sauron want to change his ways and wanna do good...but that dumb galad restricted him not to be...
I am so mad at frodo because of the murder of this reasonable man
ikr
Beautiful edit!
Despite many things the RoP did wrong i think that the Halbrand and Adar are well made
this edit is better than the actual show
Amazing video, thank you!❤🙏
Love this video!! Can't wait for season 2.
Amazing edit😍 can't stop watching it 😄
Damn this makes sauron actually likeable
"You bind me to light, and i bind you to power"
I feel like this is important line because the one rings idea was binding people in the darkness. I feel like Sauron was offering Galadriel a way to defeat Sauron by making him a good person "bind me to the light" and that in order to do that galadriel had to be okay with being his queen "Bind you to power"
Galadriel saw this as a perversion, where she thinks that if she's bound to power, he would corrupt her. But i think maybe this isn't truly what could have happened if she had said yes and forgiven him of his past sins.
It's worth noting that a 3rd option, is that this line is a lie and its all a deception...where Sauron is just super super evil beyond redemption.
This edit seems to blame Galadriel for his transition…but, “You gave him everything he wanted and then thanked him for it.” I like the edit in spite of that though, because it also could show how he tried to slowly brought Galadriel to the edge of being turned to him.
amazing! 🤩
Another Rings Of Power banger!
This is amazing. Thank you!
Beautiful video.
Although they couldn't use the story of The Silmarillion or The Lord of the Rings in the saga (due to copyright issues), they had to make the story AT LEAST make sense in relation to the first and third eras.
plz, reveale the musics name beyond the video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are written in the description box
He's the only character who is nice to Galadriel.
You forgot Elrond and Elendil...
Thats not true!
because he was trying to recruit her
not out of his goodness.
he tried to drown her when she refused to join her.
Love that music and put it into LOTR Saga 🤩
Why would the dark lord fight alongside elves and humans?
The same reason Hitler fought alongside the Soviets against the Poles.
because thats what he did in the books most of his time until last age.
This is amazing edit. Sauron is not a villain in this video.
Esse edit ficou melhor que a série.
Absolutely fantastic! I would love to see a remake when more seasons come out so we have more content of Sauron to add to this. Sadly his appearances in the Jackson films dont quite add a lot of content to tributes...
Wonderful
Amazing edit!!
In Turkish we say, "şahane olmuş". It means "It is awesome (The video was made expertly)".
wow! this is very well done
his name is not Sauron it is Saurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrron
i cannot wait for the next season lets go already
Very well made. Thank you
Everyone missing that point that Sauron SHOULD be likeable, he’s not called Sauron the Deceiver for nothing. The writers nailed it tbf
Amazing video!
Halbrand is a fascinating character who chooses evil as his guide in the guise of Sauron.
*What do you know of darkness?*
🔥👁🔥
i had no clue he is sauron. i know the movies pretty well and watched them like 50 times, haven't read a single word of the books though. the fact that he was sauron in the end was VERY disappointing.
why disappointing ?
Most people knew it.
