- Hello my beautiful ladies, handsome lords, and gorgeous nobles! This is my historically accurate cover of Don't Lose Your Head from Six the musical.
Now, I adore Six, don't get me wrong, but there are some places where it doesn't quite line up with history. And that's alright - art doesn't always have to be perfectly correct, it's about interpretation and telling new stories. However, there are some places, especially in this song, where some of the facts are just incorrect, and my history geek brain goes into overdrive trying to make it "right". So, I wrote alternate lyrics to the song that are all 100% historically accurate.

It was kinda sad how the original Song (which is still a banger) made her say that she indeed had multiple affairs, which not only wasn't true but claims made by Henry to have a reason to divorce her. Just like other wives like Catherine or Aragon and Anne of Cleeves, Henry ordered to find as much dirt as possible to justify a divorce (in Anne's case even being engaged years ago)
In Anne's case they accused and executed a handful of men for the sin of being mentioned by her and one small and not even physical interaction. She also got accused of an intimate relationship with her own brother. (Most knowledgeable comes from documentaries I was able to find in German so not everything is necessarily true)
Anne wasn't popular due to her temper, religious beliefs and replacement of Catherine of Aragon so of course many happily believed what was said.
Kinda sad that the charges used to justify multiple executions were implied to be true
But daaaamn I love the idea of an historically accurate version
WOW so well researched! Everything you say is very accurate. I've made a study of Tudor history, the lives of these wives specifically, and you're dead on. it does seem impossible that she could actually have had an affair, but she was sort of a nasty person for sure. As to the innocent men put to death on her account, a lot of them were not well liked or trusted and this was sort of an excuse to get rid of them. I'm so glad you liked this version, I couldn't fit as much in about her story as I liked but thank you so much for this very well-thought-out analysis!!
@@TheGoldenLady15 One thing that kinda facinated me was how reputations influenced how we see the queens today (let's be real here, Elizabeth gave her mother's reputation a slight push upwards).
Also from what I remember the only thing I remember that made people sympathetic towards Anne for a brief moment was history repeating itself....Henry wanting a son and replacing the woman he was still married to and not making it a secret. God, Jane even used similar tactics as Anne did, accepting gifts from Henry and reciprocating his advances sometimes and then refusing. Makes me also think if his marriage with Jane would have stood this positive for longer or if he would look elsewhere after some years too.
@@FillaneAmmisto That's very true. Because we associate Elizabeth with Anne, it sometimes boosts her in our minds. And yes, some people did feel sorry for Anne, but a lot of people had the "that's what she deserved" mentality. I would be really curious to see what would have happened had he stayed with Jane. According to sources, the love he had for her was different than what he had for the others, it was deeper and truer. I personally think they would've stayed married and he may not even have strayed, he never did while she was alive and he never loved another woman quite the way he loved her.

@@TheGoldenLady15 what's ur opinion on Anne Of Cleves? I've only really learned things about her cuz of this vid from another yter. I forget the username but she does recreations of what historical figures would look like if they were painted to look like how they were actually described n then makes modern recreations with ai to make their eyes and mouths move (not a fan of that last part). Throughout the video she talks about the lives of the historical figures in-depth n doesn't hide her opinions on them. I'm not sure if ur familiar with the channel. If u haven't watched the vid, i really recommend it. Made Anne of Cleves my fave of the 6. Haven't watched the musical yet cuz my mom canceled our hbo max subscription a month before I realized it was on hbo max. Anyway, her ending statements about how Anne and Henry interacted after their marriage made me consider her the most wondrous. Saying this makes me wanna rewatch it lol

Just a suggestion but you could swap out the last three lines of the first verse for these ones, and it could've worked, or you could've made it the start of the second verse..

She's maybe my favorite queen of the SIX, and i remember feeling kinda offended at first (yes, offended by a comedy musical) bc of how they portrayed her in Don't lose your head (which, ironically is my favorite song of the musical towards All you wanna do).
I feel like you make justice for this beheaded one. Your voice is soooo beautiful, you really found a way to match more accurate lyrics with the musicality, they're way too catchy 😳

Golden Lady thank you for making this song because I really think you actually did with the careers of musical were trying to do which was make a musical that de stereotyped The Six Wives of King Henry VIII but with the first three wives they kind of failed at that because with no way they basically just capped up with the stereotypes that Catherine of Aragon had and with don't lose your head they kept up with The Stereotype of Anne Boleyn being a not going to say it but you know I was going to say and with Heart of Stone will you ever get to know who Jane Seymour actually was and be honest that isn't six musicals fault because we don't know what Jane Seymour's personality was like because like the only source we have is Henry as we all know Henry is an unreliable narrator so we don't know exactly what Jane Seymour's personality was all we know is that she was basically just Henry's dream wife the submissive loving and caring wife and maybe there's something that says more about Jane Seymour but that's pretty much all we have

I don't understand and I've never understood what people are so uptight about a musical being historically inaccurate. First off it's a musical meaning you're supposed to have fun and enjoy it not be so anal you can't figure out how to enjoy it unless it's 100% accurate. Number two if it were 100% accurate it would not be an enjoyable musical. Number three learn how to read namely the programs you get when you go to the musical and the minor notes in the CD because they explain some of the historically accurate details of each of the queens. I'm a theater person that did 25 plus years in theater and even I understand that a musical is there to have fun and enjoy and if you can't enjoy then go find something that's more your thing.
I adore the original version of the song and the show and I know it's well-researched, all my love and respect goes to the creators. I wrote this version for people to have fun and enjoy it. If you can't enjoy, go find something that's more your thing. Love and light.
