The tourist impression is actually more accurate than many New Orleans natives. Many don't fully appreciate the exotic, romantic nature of their own culture. They are likely to see the TV series Treme as more authentic than *The Big Easy.* But then diarrhea is authentic, in a sense, and more desirable than the Third World quality of Treme. Yes, New Orleans has become a human garbage dump full of crime and dishonesty, but we can hope that it can return to its more uplifting heritage.

However in my experience working in the French Quarter my whole career they think we're going to speak like we're from Alabama or Georgia. They think we're supposed to have that thick country accent.
