Good morning garden family ❤ about a month ago I started my sobriety journey and commented under a video that included some garden cocktails. It's always such a shock when someone who appears to be super chill like Aaron, be blunt and say: "Well first of all: none of your business". I was like whoa! 😮 Nice. 👏👏👏
Thank you Aaron! Spot on. It really is 'none of your business'. I think my respect and admiration for you both went up about 50% after hearing your no nonsense attitude toward parenting and the idea of just giving children money for existing! Nailed it. Stand firm, your approach is what our country needs more of!
And that should have been the end of their answer. I would not have given any further explaination. The impropriety of some people is shocking. Everyone mind your own business.
We absolutely love being able to watch your site as a family! More families need to take you both as an example of how to be a loving, caring and training a child in the way they should go. 👏👏👏
I totally agree! Kids are a joyful part of life and should be involved in learning, whether that’s gardening, cooking, or occasionally being on TH-cam. It’s a big difference between having a channel which focuses on the child making money as a star and a child being shown as part of regular family life. I love seeing the kids involved from time to time, especially because my kids are just a little younger and I can see what activities will be age appropriate for them soon, but it’s certainly not my reason for viewing the channel 😂
OMG I can't believe how some ppl take such liberties in asking such questions, especially about your children, non of your business in right Aaron! Anyone who has watched your channel for years knows how important family is to you both. Thanks for sharing your gardens and whole life with us 😊
I LOVE this family! The entire family and watching Laura carry those babies and have those babies and be blessed to witness a tiny peak inside has been.. has changed my life honestly. They are so loving and she has great parents and she is such a great mom.. & anyone who has watched this channel for any real length of time understands that their children are in no way part of the ‘business’ part of it and would have never asked that question & it is absolutely none of anyone’s business!!! #NoManners! 🙄
I love the kids popping in and out! In no way do they look like they are being exploited. Aaron and Laura are wonderful parents, they have the kids best interest in mind.
They might have the best interest for the entire family but there are the stalkers out there that want all the personal dirt they can find. It’s a sad world that people have to share together.
Nah…..I’ll listen to the entire video, but at the start, hate to see Aaron labeled as King of Negativity. “Back and forth” is always good. You two are excellent. Period. Gifts to the world. Thank you.
They display how to have "discussions" or "conversations" as partners. Agreed, a gift to the world. The look on Laura's face after Aaron: "...please agree with me.."😅😅😅 priceless.
Aaron, 100% “not your business”. Great answer. Also to both of you…wise parenting methods concerning work, expectations , allowance. You are rare in this age of zero expectations and responsibilities. Your reward will be great as you raise responsible hard working adults.
Oh my word - one of the best recaps because of the banter between the two of you. Just loved it. So real and funny. Don't talk for my heart of hearts. LOL
Absolutely loved Aarons answer to the kids subject. This is why I love watching you guys. Always real. And totally agree your kids are not the channel subject.
I’m going to agree with Aaron on making the chicken coop/Hartley area 2 separate rooms. I can’t remember if it was a video when you were working in the Hartley or a pic you posted but it was clear that these 2 areas were not jiving with each other. Both beautiful, but definitely 2 different styles.. hope that helps Aaron!
As beautiful as the Hartley is and it is no need to cover it up, the chicken coop brings it down just a notch which kinda keeps the Hartley from being so formal, a down home country feel which I think is who this family is 😊. The Hartley is a a stand alone entity and nothing will ever change that ❤.
Now a question. Why do people say anything about landscape fabric? And yes DeWitt Pro is the way to go for sure, but if you don't want to use Treflan (not organic, but a chemical weed pre-emergent) then fabric like where you have used it is a must. So unless fabric haters are willing to come and pull all the weeds then fabric here and there is a must😊.
Put the pallet walkway by the barn or pond or that new red barn somewhere. Rip out the wisteria and have a pretty view that isn't blocked. They could even make a trellis by the red barn for the wisteria if they want to keep it.
It was sad to watch the pallet walkway come up mostly due to the fact that was a project that most novice gardeners could easily and affordably do. Not mention it was about one of the last honest DIY garden projects that Laura had done before switching to the big production. I recall finding Laura when I was building a raised garden bed and she was building a garden box on her deck. That dates back a lot of years, and have watched every episode since, loyal viewer. Just miss more of the simpler DIYs that were done before, that were affordable and easy for a procrastinating, partially lazy, really frugal, garden hobbyist could do!
@@DS-mw8yu I think she said she is going to put it somewhere else where it will go better. It is kind of a rustic vibe and with her formal gardens now and more land, she has many more options for the pallet walkway.
I love the open and honest way you approach everything. I sometimes feel some of us need to apologize for the liberties others take in the comments. Whether it’s your hair, Laura, or your shoes, or the way you parent your children. You both are an inspiration to us all and while we watch the videos for education, we see the love and support you all have for each other. I could have hugged Aaron when someone commented about exploiting your children. “#1. It’s none of your business”. 😆. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and for giving us something uplifting to look forward to every day. ❤😊
There is absolutely no way that Aaron can be called The King of Negativity. He views everything from all angles and takes his emotions out of it. Thank the Lord he has the ability to see things from all perspectives. YOU GO, AARON!!!
Lol the sas from Aaron on this one 😂😂😂 I think the idea of making the coop area seperate of the Greenhouse area is great, but I agree with Laura, there's room for a wisteria AND evergreens in there 🙃
About the kids appearing in videos question: As someone who feels super passionate about this, I see a distinct difference between people who are monetizing their kids and their channels can't exist without them vs. you are creating content about something and your kids happen to appear sometimes (AND you give them agency to say no).
I loved the, “none of your business” comment by Aaron! What a hero and protector of his family. You and Aaron are the heart of the videos. Everybody else is icing on the cake! Stay focused and moving forward!
Well said on the question about your kids! I have always protected my daughter from being posted on the internet because of informed consent. That being said I understand that you guys make your living making videos, and I have always respected the way you include your children. It never seems forced or contrived and it’s obvious that you’re making content that they happen to be in and not using them to make content.
Some people that are really into social media get the feeling they know Laura and her family personally and cross the line asking too many questions that isn’t their business. These are the ones that need a real life.
Love the pallet walkway, BUT it is now in the wrong spot. Sorry Laura, I have to agree with Aaron on this one! It is time to build a green screen to close off the coup from the Hartley. Move the wisteria arch & pallet walkway somewhere else... perhaps a pathway behind the barn to the basketball court?
Aaron , I agree 1000% ! We are farmers & ours kids understood there is/was a certain amount of work that needed to be done. Our kids never asked for or expected an allowance . Now that they are adults, they’re grateful for growing up on a farm. Any time they applied for a job, the fact that they grew up on a farm, was always the key factor on why they were hired! You aren’t lazy if u grew up on a farm ! 🚜🐄🙏❤️🙏 Sry Aaron, couldn’t find a green tractor for my tractor emoji , we are John Deere people too ! 😉
Hey Aaron! Cat owners don’t bring their cat to the vet after it is dead from eating toxic plants. They bury them. I have never heard an UTube vlog person ever warn their viewers about toxic plants. Not sure if it is from lack of knowledge about plants themselves or what. Hellebores, lilies are deadly, also. You should do an vlog on deadly or toxic plants for cats, dogs and humans. It is a disservice to the viewer. Viewers need to learn not just be entertained. You have had in the last several weeks people bring up toxic plants. You just laugh it off. Why is that?
I agree the chicken coop is too informal next to the Hartly and they seem a bit odd next to each other. I thought you would eventually need to move the coop but blocking it off would work too.
My son had chores he was required to do. We paid for grades. School was considered his job. He is now 23 and talks about how thankful he was for that lesson. He lives on his own, chores are a must.
I think you handle the kids on camera very gracefully - it's clear to me they come and go as they please, and they just want to hang out with Mom ❤ I'm with Laura on the path and wisteria - wait to get the boxwood hedge completed and see how the wisteria performs. No need to rush! It is so lovely to watch your garden waking up, thank you for sharing it with us 😊
Aaron you crack me up - please please agree with me. Plant the evergreens to block off the view of the chicken coop. This one I agree with Aaron, one is farm Hartley is English garden. 🧐
As much as I love the arch, basket boy, and pallet walkway, I agree with Aaron that that the chicken coop and Hartley are two different tyes of areas and need the evergreen buffer I bet you can easily find a better, permanent spot to move the wisteria (ugh!), arch, pallet walkway, and the basket boy where they will be more appropriate. It could be a secret area out towards the red barn or in the dirt lands.
They have such a great relationship. Laura's positivity is what makes her so likeable, but Aaron is so dead on when he occasionally nudges her toward reality when she gushes over a plant that I think most folks would agree is unattractive.
100% AGREE that kids should learn to earn money from kids appropriate jobs. Teaches them So Much - mostly responsibility!! It is incredibly Rare these days - try to find a teen to mow your lawn or help clear weeds or haul hay is impossible!!! Young adults today have such poor work ethics that business’ suffer for it & kids take Everything for granted - so sad….
Laura's not super-worried about moving 60 roses with their infrastructure like mulch, drip, landscape fabric, because SHE'S A BEAST and could do it in ONE DAY! LOL
I just watched this for a second time just to hear Aaron say " that's none of your business". Absolutely! I enjoy seeing your children in the videos and it certainly is a learning experience for them. They are so adorable. I have watched them grow and love watching them. Put people in their place, Aaron! You two are wonderful parents! And I enjoy your videos!
This was such a funny recap. You guys are totally precious. People need to learn gardening from you and Aaron and stop being so critical of everything. Love you both and just look forward to seeing each video.
The pallet walkway is the project that brought me to Garden Answer. Laura, the enthusiasm and ability that you installed that walkway with always brings me back to see what else you have brewing. Glad to see you're keeping a piece of the walkway as a secret garden. A fitting monument to all your work on it. Thank you for keeping our days so bright. 🙂
I really appreciate you guys. You are sooooo gracious in answering some sensitive questions 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 If you ever got duck, oh my…. You would’ve to close the pond area or cleaning it every day. To me, ducks (don’t get me wrong, I love them) are the pigs of the bird world.😂😂
My husband got me a livestock marker which is used for marking on livestock ear tags and it works great! It doesnt fade nearly as fast as other markers! You can get them at farm stores. 😊
You both have great instincts as parents. I enjoyed your discussion on the pros and cons of allowances for children. Every child should be so fortunate as to have such smart and caring parents.
Aaron had me howling with laughter today - on top form! Thanks guys for the great videos - I watch them everyday at the end of my workday to relax all the way in Milan, Italy. You have inspired me so much to garden with the small terrazzo garden that I have - this week I picked my first daffodils I have ever grown 💜💜💜💜
I agree with Aaron. I'm in the UK 🇬🇧 we tend to have garden rooms with each having its own private space. My favourite garden is the Kings garden at Highgrove. That's where I take my inspiration.
Roses, what if you just take out rows 3 and 6. You can walk on the outer sides of rows 1 and 2, 4 and 5, and 7 and 8. You can just cut back and trim from one side if each row. No moving every plant, mulch, etc. Then remove plants you aren't fond of and replace with some of the ones from rows 3 and 6. Hope this makes sense.
I have to say how much I appreciate your high production value. I recently purchased an expensive online flower course and was immediately struck by how much more production value GA had in comparison. I said to my husband, "I can't believe the free youtube channel I watch has such better camera work and sound quality than this high-end, expensive online class!" You guys are amazing. Thanks for putting so much heart and energy into crafting something truly beautiful.
Aaron is correct about the chicken coop, the pallet walkway, and the wisteria. You can't be too sentimental in a garden. If a wisteria is that important, then plant a new one. It's not like you're both 80 and won't see it come to its fruition.
The wisteria needs to be moved before it is a major problem IMO. Maybe in their area it will be manageable but most places it becomes a monster that you can never get rid of.
There are several different ways to grow and train a wisteria than just an arbor. Think outside the box. But....I think that the little basket boy, raised up just a bit, and the wisteria cascading around him from the arbor will be absolutely beautiful. With a stone pathway.
Aaron reminds me of my hubby, not negative, just a realist. And like Laura, I am more of a dreamer and it will all work out. 🌷 Love all you do, excited about your future developments of your new properties! Side note, my first seeds germinated! 3 types of statice! So very excited for spring!!
Laura , you and Arron are awesome people and parents. I also loved when you talked about tithing! Keep tithing , God will bless you for your obedience.
Daily maintenance chores inside and out were expected as we were not paid allowances to be contributing family members. There was always a list of jobs to be done with monetary values attached so we kids could choose to work or be broke. If none of us wanted to take on a responsibility listed, then somehow, an eagerly anticipated activity did not happen because parents were busy doing all the jobs remaining on the list. As an adult looking back, I thought the distinction between chores and jobs was wise ❤
I love it when you and Aaron share whats happening behind the scenes with the kids. Part of what makes your videos so enjoyable lately has been watching the interaction between you and the kids and their eagerness to help. It is such a positive moment in my day. Please don't let nay-sayers who question the childrens participation in the videos make you question what you are doing.
Yes i also thought the rest of the pallet path needs to come up. Looks to choppy with the other leading lines near by. Also looks to cutsie going to a arch
This made me laugh so much. When you two were talking about how there's no room to walk between the roses in your new Rose Garden...does anyone else remember Laura mentioning how little room there was to walk between the roses when they first moved into the house, with the roses planted on the walkway to and from the car. 😂 Love you both SO much 💕
Great parents and wonderful kids! Family work together in the garden is a vacation! My children move out many years ago, sometimes , they sent my grandchildren home, it's so fun watching them to play in the garden.
guys this was an amazing video i felt as if i was sitting at sunday dinner with you and Aaron and just chit chatting!! absolutely loved it!!! and i for one think you have a perfect balance of work and family and you n aaron don’t exploit your babies so i agree Totally with aaron”NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS “lol
I love you two! Your banter! I'm team Aaron on most "discussions," and his voice of reason, but I do understand Laura's passion for cramming things in, lol.
Great recap as always. Love watching these. Your children are you great and you are great parents. I agree with Aaron on the earlier, not our business. Have a blessed day.
You know what Laura, I agree with you! The idea of the arch with a statue under it is such a lovely and beautiful idea! There are plenty of skinny evergreens that could screen and be small enough 💜💜💜
Speaking plant toxicity...I had a beautiful wisteria but found out much later after planting it that the whole plant is toxic. My son's dog and my neighbors dog like to eat dried leaves. My son's dog got very sick from eating the wisteria leaves. He doesn't bring his dogs over anymore. I cut down the wisteria😢 last summer after my neighbor got a new puppy. I just could not justify keeping the plant when I knew it might cause her dogs to get sick. Now I'm planting climbing roses on the existing arbor. WIN WIN!
Straight rows seem to detract from the idea of a "rose garden" to me. Vegetables and cut flowers make sense for 60 ft rows, but roses deserve a little more "staging" for my taste.
The garden around the chicken coop is one of my favorite things about their garden!💕 The relaxed, homey feel is charming and soft on the eye and a nice relief from the formality of the sharp angles of the sidewalks and boxwoods around the Hartley.
The pallet walkway was how I first discovered your channel. I was searching for backyard path ideas and there you were. Would hate to see it go but you always come up with beautiful and tasteful ideas.
I’m with Aaron on the wisteria. Take it down. You can always start some new plants from it. Just lay them across some soil and they will send out roots. I like the idea of a stone pathway there too. Also as far as solar, you don’t need to put it on a roof. My son has some acreage and he’s installing them in a field. There are some out there that move with the sun also. Love the interaction between you in these recap videos. Thank you for sharing. 💕🌺
I love the conversation about the kids. Teaching about tithe is so important...you and Aaron are wonderful. You two brought tears to my eyes hearing you talk about the kids, money, praise, choirs🥰 God bless you Both and extended families..
Good morning, all! So fascinating to hear how each family teaches kids where money comes from. My family was big on "chores are simply apart of living in the house, but school is your job, so that's where you get paid." So my dad would give us $10 for each A, $5 for each B, and a bonus for straight-A's. It was a super effective system! All my siblings and I worked hard at school and enjoyed spending on our hobbies. Then we all got multiple scholarships going into college. I think my parents saved money altogether. 😆 🥰
Hi! Re: the chicken coop vs the Hartley, I must agree with Aaron. It would be ideal to screen between the two areas. I feel that the chicken coop/run is a distracting view when you're in the Hartley. 38:42
Don’t complicate your kids enthusiasm to be contributing to your family with money-They will learn that in all due time. You both are wonderful parents, thank you for sharing your family and life with us
My girls are now in college, but when they were little we came up with a chore/allowance system that worked for us. Chores, things that you do because you are a member of the family and live here (making your bed, cleaning up the kitchen, feeding pets, taking out the trash, etc) were UNPAID. But, money could be earned by doing extras. For example, small/age appropriate projects (washing a car, pulling weeds, dusting ceiling fans, etc.) This gave them the experience of working for money and it was a choice.
I absolutely agree with Laura about the wisteria and archway - I love garden rooms too but I feel that the chicken coop is so beautiful alongside the Hartley :)
LOVE your comment about the children/youtube question, Aaron. Good on ya! Just because you are out on youtube does not mean all your business is our business. Thank you!!
I agree with Aaron. Having evergreens would amp up that chicken coop area and the Hartley would be the focal point. 🌟. That concept would create a Monet effect for the landscape. The deep green is the back of the canvas and the blooming deciduous shrubs, trees, annuals, and perennials are given their best show. I don’t think he is negative. He brings a lot of foresight to the job as once it is done, it does not have to be moved. I planted stuff before and now 15 years later, they are too big to move and I wish I had the mind of Aaron. You are so lucky to have his ideas. It will amp your place up to look like an estate. That definition makes me think of the way P Allen Smith designed all the rooms on his place. He does use evergreen specifically for design definition. Love you both!! You are fun to watch! I think he is gracious and funny. He is doing his best! We subscribers are so grateful for this channel and the recap videos!! 🌸🌳🕊🙏❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😘

I agreed with Aaron, because the coop is truely a different place 😂 Love Aaron expressions
@jgwood10 Oh, thank you, Jane, for bringing this up! I so heartedly agree with you.
@jgwood10 so true. NO boundaries with the folks that think Laura and Aaron str ",their friends". Happens all too often in videos. YUCK!
100% accurate that it isn’t any of our business what they are doing with the kids and the financial aspect.
I agree with Aaron on blocking the chicken coop and on his views on allowance...you both are great parents and I enjoy seeing your children helping..
I agree with Aaron. Remove the wisteria and pallet walkway and hide the chicken run from the Hartley. Keep them in separate zones.
Some flowers are like your babies. I love that Laura is not snooty about the Hartley.
I agree Aaron ! The Hartley needs its own space . 😂😂what could I pour on it 😂.
I think you handle the kids on camera very gracefully - it's clear to me they come and go as they please, and they just want to hang out with Mom ❤
I'm with Laura on the path and wisteria - wait to get the boxwood hedge completed and see how the wisteria performs.
Lots of eye rolling and sass, just what we love!
I absolutely love seeing you two argue/banter. A great example of disagreeing but also listening and hearing a different opinion with an open mind.
LOL
I agree with Aaron. Hide the chicken run. Make them have separate rooms.
Been watching you guys for many years now, never ever considered Aaron negative! Both of you are very down to earth, warm and humble human beings 😊
Aaron, I couldn’t agree more with you about the space between the chicken coop and the Hartley.
Aaron always knows best! He is so adorable how he honors you and just stops talking, always a gentleman!
🌻🌻🌻yep, we all remember the sunflower incident! 😂
And that is the only time I got mad at him.
You are sooooo gracious in answering some sensitive questions 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
If you ever got duck, oh my…. You would’ve to close the pond area or cleaning it every day. To me, ducks (don’t get me wrong, I love them) are the pigs of the bird world.😂😂
Great analogy! Ducks are so awfully messy!
I reserve judgement on the pallet walkway, until I see Laura's vision come to fruition 😜
You guys were feisty today, and I loved the faces Laura made. I respect your parenting style, as well.
My husband got me a livestock marker which is used for marking on livestock ear tags and it works great! It doesnt fade nearly as fast as other markers! You can get them at farm stores. 😊
Ooohhh. Those things have to last because those ears are in the sun, rain, and wind all the time! Thanks for the tip!
You both have great instincts as parents. I enjoyed your discussion on the pros and cons of allowances for children. Every child should be so fortunate as to have such smart and caring parents.
36:38 ducks are loud and dirty. Don’t do it! Way too much maintenance!
A duck pond in the pasture might work. Nowhere near the house.
@@YSLRDthey will venture near the house and poop everywhere!
100% agree with blocking off the view to make different spaces. For the Hartley and chicken coop.
I love watching the kids getting involved in helping with projects. 💜💜
Wonderful family dynamics, love how the kids get involved.
Yes, they need chores. Teaches them responsibility.
That’s a great idea. I wonder if the lack of symmetry will bug her though
My children move out many years ago, sometimes , they sent my grandchildren home, it's so fun watching them to play in the garden.
guys this was an amazing video
i felt as if i was sitting at sunday dinner with you and Aaron and just chit chatting!! absolutely loved it!!! and i for one think you have a perfect balance of work and family and you n aaron don’t exploit your babies so i agree Totally with aaron”NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS “lol
YES. The Chicken Coop and the Hartley need to be separate areas. I Agree. That arch is out of place.
I love you two! Your banter! I'm team Aaron on most "discussions," and his voice of reason, but I do understand Laura's passion for cramming things in, lol.
Paw Paw Everlast Label Company is what I use for metal garden markers. They have different sizes and shapes and have lasted for years for me.
Not only are you teaching us all about gardening you're also teaching us how a family can include everyone.
You both are amazing parents! You had great upbringing and are doing it all great! A joy to watch you all. ❤️
WIN WIN!
SUGGESTION:: Maybe MOVE the roses to a NEW LOCATION on NEW PROPERTY & design a WALKING rose garden?!?!
Straight rows seem to detract from the idea of a "rose garden" to me. Vegetables and cut flowers make sense for 60 ft rows, but roses deserve a little more "staging" for my taste.
Aaron: "Please agree with me." hahahaha Ya'll are the best.
Aaron ‘people will agree with me’ lol
Well yes and no on those topics he brought up! Their banter is great to listen to.
The garden around the chicken coop is one of my favorite things about their garden!💕 The relaxed, homey feel is charming and soft on the eye and a nice relief from the formality of the sharp angles of the sidewalks and boxwoods around the Hartley.
Who here would help Laura and Aaron move roses for pizza ❤👍🙌
Probably all of us up and able. The property would be standing room only!
I'll bring the pizza!
I don't even need the pizza 😅
The privilege of visiting that garden in person would be worth some shoveling
Me, me!
🙋🏻♀️ 🍕 Heck, I’d *bring* the pizza!!!
The pallet walkway was how I first discovered your channel. I was searching for backyard path ideas and there you were. Would hate to see it go but you always come up with beautiful and tasteful ideas.
Yes, yes, yes I agree with Laura.... do the alcove! That would look really nice. I am rooting for that wisteria!! Bloom, wisteria. Bloom!
You two brought tears to my eyes hearing you talk about the kids, money, praise, choirs🥰
God bless you Both and extended families..
Thank you!!
I'm choking with laughter, Laura, after your comment about the deer dying from the toxic foxgloves. Great humor!
I love the banter in these recap videos. Keep it up. 🙂
Aaron’s “please agree with me” was a laugh out loud moment! I do agree with you Aaron.
You guys crack me up!! I LOVE your passionate opinions about gardening and placement of landscape planting!!!🤣
