I'm on the same page Laura! I don't buy fancy clothes (actually a lot of thrift store shopping),I color my own hair, no manicures, drive an older car (2010), have very old furniture, go out to eat rarely, no gym membership, etc. BUT, when it comes to my gardens, THAT is where I DO spend my money. That being said, you and Aaron DO NOT have to explain to us how you spend money. You are maintaining a business, it's your livelihood, and, it makes YOU happy...that's it! Both of you are so relaxed in your videos now, you've really gotten into your own groove. I wouldn't change anything on your platform. I look forward every day to watching you and your family, and am so appreciative of all you share with us!! Can't wait to see what 2025 brings to Garden Answer!!
AARON! THANK YOU for commenting on how the (loving) cost of gardening is simply a love of our hobby. Unlike many hobbies, gardening is adding something positive to the environment, AND our souls.
I do feel guilty sometimes because so many plants die in our harsh Texas summer and that feels like money down the drain to me. However, some are successful and there are so many benefits in the process itself that I have decided it’s a healthy hobby to keep. I don’t really spend money on much else, anyway.
Hey Laura, just an idea, but could you put galvanized stock tanks upside down in your raised beds to fill the bottom, I think it would work, I dont know.

Hey Laura. I am going to clue you in. You can thank me later. When chosing appliances, do not fall into the "oh how pretty" category. I used to work at Lowe's for years. I worked in shipping and receiving. So I saw everything we had problems with that had to be sent out for repairs. Yes the new stoves, refrigerators, washer and dryer are oh so pretty but most are crap. Stay away from Samsung and LG. I know, they are cool, beautiful and offer the most gadgets on them but they were the #1 appliances that failed shortly after being sold. Most of the time it was the main computer board in the appliance and to replace that is almost as much as the original cost of the appliance. So don't be taken in by all the new bells and whistles. All that shimmers is not gold. Ok, have a Happy New Year!
So true! We had a 2 yr.old Samsung, the computer board went, to replace was just as much as a new washer! Now we have a top loading, no bells and whistles, it's 4 years old now. Gets used every day, at least 3 loads daily.

Laura, you would fall in love with Biltmore estate and gardens. Do plan your first visit this Spring as the tulips are spectacular... actually everything is spectacular 😊
I was wondering how long Garden Answer has existed. Over 10 years is a great milestone. I think you should recap the last 10 years. It would be interesting to see how the channel has evolved. I found you years ago when I googled fairy gardens for a coworker. I was sold after that. So, I have been with you for quite a while. I have learned so much. Thank you for being a bright spot in our day. Happy New Year and may your dad have a fantastic birthday ❤

Love all Garden Answer videos - content guidance and inspiration. I received a tee shirt kneeling pad and gloves from my husband for Christmas (thank you); With the potential re-work on the space outside the kitchen door how about using the extra rocks to build a Gabion walls for the strawberries as a raised bed; I watched this video after you built the container system to go store your extra rocks.
If you go to Longwood Gardens, be sure to go to nearby Winterthur, Mt. Cuba and don't miss Chanticleer! The idea of a stream through a tropical greenhouse - mind blowing
I live in south Carolina about 1 hrs. from Biltmore. Christmas is magical. But spring is absolutely beautiful especially when all the tulips are blooming and rose's. You would love it and so would the kids just walking through the house and the grounds.all the little hiding places and tunnels are awesome
Hello hope you all had a blessed Christmas. I chuckled when you said the hummingbird was dancing in front of you. That it’s way of begging you to put out the feeder 😊. Mine will find me every time the feeders get low.
Me too. It’s always the female that will fly around my one sliding door to let me know that the feeder is out. I usually put sage and salvia right outside or the tube style fuchsias so they never go hungry either way
You guys are the highlight of my day and so inspiring. I also have gnat problems and use mosquito bits. I've used them the past two years and haven't had a problem since. I have tried everything. I thought I remember you using mosquito bits on a video several years ago. Hope you and your family have a fabulous New Year!
Ditto. I have also used Gnatrol but find that I get superior gnat control by sprinkling Mosquito Bits on the surface of all the new potting and seed starting mixes I use.
I was just at Longwood Gardens and noticed some of their outdoor planters were similar to ones you did this year with the greens , large eucalyptus leaves and red and yellow branches. (Love them!). It made me wonder if you had ever visited Longwood. I was shocked in today’s video when you mentioned you would like to visit there someday. I live in Delaware, not far from Longwood and I can tell you it’s beautiful no matter what time of year you visit! There are other DuPont estates nearby which also have gorgeous gardens. Highly recommend seeing these estates and gardens - you won’t be disappointed. Happy New Year to you and your family - love watching all your videos!
Always, always, you guys are inspiring! You could always use the extra fencing and river rock for the base of the tall raised beds. You always know how to make things beautiful!
I rescued my lemon tree from the Home Depot clearance section. It has one lemon that is ripening, but it had a TON of blooms and is still blooming. Spent the summer on my patio and is now in my living room with southern exposure. How exciting! And I am moving a whole bunch of geraniums in as I remove Christmas decorations/plants and starting a few more from seed. The Mavericks are so good.
Thank you for answering my question! I loved the Russell story you told, btw🥰 It looks like I’ll be ordering a Meyer lemon, and maybe a miniature peach! Happy New Year, and happy birthday to your dad! I wish him many, many more!
Happy New Year Garden Answers family another year has come and gone and I can’t wait to see what you and Arron will be up to Ive learned so much from your Chan and just want to thank you your truly a joy to watch it’s the first thing I do to start the day
I gain so much from your videos. I can look around my house and garden and see so much of your influence, too many to list. My best wishes to you and your entire family throughout the new year and future!
You really need to visit Longwood in PA. My husband and I visited there on a whim while we were visiting Philadelphia, PA one summer. There is a large green house there. Beautiful. The plants and water fountain show is awesome.
I thoroughly enjoy Orchids! Here in hot dry Texas, I find it helpful and successful to put my Orchid pots on a tray of pebbles filled with water. The evaporation helps with the humidity around the plant. Best New Year to All! 😊
I so enjoyed today's video...but I repeat myself with that each week. Uggghhh, the comment about justification of spending habits on gardening/plants....You both owe NO ONE any explanations about how you spend your gardening thus businees (for you folks) dollars!!!! Aaron you were gracious enough to speak to the audacious comment and were right on in your reply. Thank you for all you share with us. As I have shared before, I consider myself a pretty accomplished gardener and despite that have learned SO much from BOTH of you. Have a blessed, healthy and peaceful 2025.
Thank you so much for the past year of videos. Actually, for the past five years I've watched, the videos have been awesome. I can't think of a single one that has not been terrific. Happy New Year to you all!🎊🎈🎉
Hey Laura. I am a long time fan and haven’t missed a video since I retired about 5 years ago. You also inspired me to start a small flower farm on my 5 acre property! I would love to know how you plan for your videos? Do you sit down once a week and plan out what you are going to do or do you think about it the night before? Or do you just get up that morning and decide what you are going to do? Inquiring minds want to know! Watching your videos with my morning coffee is my zen time for my day! Thank you!
Congratulations on your success! I watch everyday while having my decaf coffee! Just wanted to let you know my neighbor used cinder blocks for her raised beds and decorated it with the brick like you have on The Hartley! Hope this is an idea to help you guys! ❤🌸🎄
Happy 10 years Laura and Aaron!🎉 I've been a faithful watcher since 2016...I think. Your channel is a daily ritual for me, often to the detriment of my personal discipline, but it is my guilty pleasure. I love how it feels like you are talking directly to me and although I live in a different growing zone (10) I've learned so much. It's like having a buddy where you help each other. I'd love to think I helped you too (look inside that rolled up towel and you WILL find the missing washer). Here's another tip...I splurged on that green-handled box cutter a few years ago and I love it! You should carry that in your store. It would make a great gift item!
From my experience with a well and water softeners, I was told not to have the faucets that you are going to use for drinking or cooking hooked up to the softener. This is probably the reason you are having these issues. Hope this helps! ….. I can’t start my day without watching your video! Obsessed! Thank you! ❤️
A plumber needs to run a water line directly from the well pump to the faucet instead of thru the softener first. I was told you should not be consuming softened water.
I’ve always gardened, but it wasn’t until I discovered GA that I started creating truly beautiful gardens. I may die a pauper but I’ll have the prettiest garden beds on the whole block!
Hey, Laura and Aaron! Happy New Year! Thanks for giving us great videos for so many years! Every single one is appreciated! I wanted to let you know I made the lemon cake and it was such a hit with my family! It is definitely going to be repeated! I used some lemon juice mixed with the water in the cake part because I had a bit more than the glaze required and I’ll do that again next time! Thanks for sharing that recipe! Can’t wait to make it again! ~Cassandra
Happy New Year ! Thanks so much for all the super videos this past year. I bet Paul could lay that brick for raised beds...haven't seen anything he can't do yet
Happy New Year! Love your videos and love listening to you and Aron discuss options or gardening ideas! I made the lemon cake for Christmas Eve! Delicious! I have learned so much from you!
We all know that cats can find the most comfortable spots where ever they are & Russell found his on the kneeling pad with you! That video of you cleaning out the garden & Russell sitting next to you on the GA kneeling pad is so sweet and should definitely be on your web site selling these! Love Russell & Douglas.
I bought the opal ice maker after you talked about it. Sure enough ours started whistling after yours whistled. We did not bother with the warranty. I went out and bought different size ice trays and once a week I dump the ice into a couple of containers. I decided sometimes simple was easier for me. When the ice maker whistled it reminded me of the wicked witch in Wizard of Oz..." I'm melting, I'm Melting." LOL
@@yesterdayseyes I live in western Washington and the Anna's hummingbirds stay all year long. I keep feeders up all year. You can help the Anna's now with building their nests by putting out hummingbird nesting material. The Rufous migrate to Mexico and return in March.
Good morning and thank you for today’s recap. You asked about fungus gnats. I pretty much top dress my houseplants with Mosquito Bits. It does seem to help. I also have sticky traps. Most recently, they have come in my amaryllis bulbs- I believe within the skin layers of the bulb because I potted them up myself with soil I have already used. 🤷🏻♀️
Regarding fungus gnats…I first observed from Gary @The Rusted Garden to use boiling water when moistening the soil for seed starting. I only plant out a few trays but have found success with that method.
I JUST returned from Biltmore Estate!! It was a sweet little birthday treat from my husband to visit during the Christmas season... truly beautiful and amazing! The gardens are in their winter state, but it's easy to appreciate the evergreen interest, and the greenhouse??? Unbelievable!!! Please put it on your bucket list!! It's very special!
Hi Laura - thank you for opening the discussion on what is my nemesis, the fungus gnat! I too have had unmeasurable results with gnatrol, so I'm using a hack I read about online that is giving me better results. It's one 32oz bottle of hydrogen peroxide in one gallon of water. I water the plants with it, making sure to get around the edges of the pot. It kind of foams up a little and supposedly kills the larvae and doesn't seem to harm my plants at all...a couple of rounds of this while also using the yellow sticky traps will usually eliminate them until I bring in the next plant with new potting soil and introduce the problem again! I'm excited to hear what others are doing!
The humming birds come to Tucson, AZ.....I have hundreds of them hanging around. No fear either. They come inches away from my face when I'm filling up our fountains and feeders ❤
Yes, there are large appliance repairmen. Just look up your appliance company (or vendor) they contract with local licensed repairman. Most large appliances have minor issues to fix, but most people are quick to replace the appliance. 😳 The big eyes for the dream stream conservatory was 😂. WOW, I love that idea.❤
The Biltmore In North Carolina is amazing to visit. Would give that a bit to repair after the hurricane damage they sustained this past year. Longwood Gardens is a must see. It was on my Bucket List for years and we did get to see it. Stunning!! But you are so much closer to Buchart Gardens on Victoria Island, British Columbia….. that is a must see for any garden lover. I got Blue Poppy seeds there, but no success growing here in Northwest Ohio. Love your channel… can’t wait to see all the exciting things to come in 2025.
A conservatory sounds beyond wonderful! Be sure to make it tall enough for your trees to mature. Both your faces lit up with the idea and it brings on daydreams for me. (Retired horticulturalist and I live in a condo.) Love you all! 🪴🌴🥑🪴
I think I have to go back and watch. I spent Christmas Eve at family friends. I ate one piece of fudge. Then 1am Christmas morning headed to the ED. Got my gallbladder out at 10am. Caught a cold in the hospital went home at 4pm. Today I turned a corner. Feeling good and excited to watch garden answer.
Store Idea!! Someone asked about the canning funnel - I find all my canning supplies at my local garden center. Maybe you can source a canning kit to sell: wide-mouth funnel and a pair of long-handled tongs with the silicone grip! Garden Answer fans can buy their own canning jars locally (or let someone else do the glass jar shipping 😉). Happy canning everyone and thank you Garden Answer for the canning ideas! Happy New Year!
Your gates are awesome, and very necessary. I don't think a lot of your viewers realize how important they are. Signs don't deter a lot of people these days. I've had to put up a solid 6-foot fence on one side of my property because the visitors to the church next door kept coming up to my wire fence, wanting to "pet the doggies." I have 2 Great Pyrenees, an Akita, and a Pitbull. Only the Pitbull, which is the smallest of the dogs, wants pets from strangers.
Laura I love your videos, I learn a lot from them. Longwood gardens is amazing, I live 4 hours away but visit at least once a year, every season is beautiful. You will love it!
Hi Laura. I love your videos! So inspiring! I had an awful time with fungus gnats in my houseplants, so I add hydrogen peroxide to my water EVERY TIME I water, and I haven't seen a gnat in years. I don't measure, but everything I have read says you can mix up to 1:4 peroxide:water ratio. I probably use quite a bit less than that as a preventative and I swear by it. Thanks for all you do. ❤
Laura, you can use any pot for an African violet. Just set the plastic pot inside it. It has to be glazed terracotta to keep the moisture in but no one said you couldn’t glaze the inside of the pot instead of the outside. Hope this helps. Happy new year 🎆

Thanks for a great recap! Enjoy your time off! We will all survive!!
Biltmore also has a tropical greenhouse. Have you been in the “Halloween room” there? It gave me the heebie jeebies.
Always love you recap videos. Thanks for you and your family sharing your life with us
I was just at Longwood Gardens and noticed some of their outdoor planters were similar to ones you did this year with the greens , large eucalyptus leaves and red and yellow branches.
Good Morning! Love watching your Sunday recap videos with my pup Sophie and a cup of coffee. Wishing everyone a Blessed day .
😂Laura blazing through her recital… and trying to imagine the look on your mom’s face..that’s the funniest thing!
Love that 'mini' orchid... and I have never had one! Thankyou for your transparency and all your motivation!
You really need to visit Longwood in PA. My husband and I visited there on a whim while we were visiting Philadelphia, PA one summer. There is a large green house there. Beautiful. The plants and water fountain show is awesome.
You should definitely make the trip here to Pennsylvania and go to Longwood gardens. Its absolutely beautiful.
I thoroughly enjoy Orchids! Here in hot dry Texas, I find it helpful and successful to put my Orchid pots on a tray of pebbles filled with water. The evaporation helps with the humidity around the plant. Best New Year to All! 😊
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Love these Sunday recaps. Favorite part of my day. Coffee and recap
I was happy to find your channel. I LOVE plants and was graced with having a green thumb. Your content is so for me!!
Thank you!
Happy and blessed birthday to your dad! Happy New Year to you all ! Blessings 💞🙏🏻💞
I love the way y’all’s mind is 🤔 thinking 🤔…
Can’t wait for future projects!❤️
😃😃😃
Congratulations on your success! I watch everyday while having my decaf coffee! Just wanted to let you know my neighbor used cinder blocks for her raised beds and decorated it with the brick like you have on The Hartley! Hope this is an idea to help you guys! ❤🌸🎄
Glad u had a great Christmas, wish your Dad a wonderful Birthday ❤️❤️
Happy New Year to All at Garden Answer and all their families!! 2024 was Incredible and so will 2025!!!
Hope you are able to drive north to McCall and enjoy yourselves! We are envious you have a nice destination possible. GO!
Laura, you are so right about there being a need for better pots for African violets.
Happy New Year. You are my favorite "show"!
From my experience with a well and water softeners, I was told not to have the faucets that you are going to use for drinking or cooking hooked up to the softener. This is probably the reason you are having these issues. Hope this helps! ….. I can’t start my day without watching your video! Obsessed! Thank you! ❤️
Curious, how did you do the insert to the "well water softener"?
A plumber needs to run a water line directly from the well pump to the faucet instead of thru the softener first. I was told you should not be consuming softened water.
@@SueBraxtonGarcia-z9z Exactly. I live in an area of hard water and our softener only softens water for the hot water tank.
Our whole house is softened except for the kitchen sink and the pot filler at the stove.
~Cassandra
Love your videos! I've watched and learned from you for years. You're an inspiration. Thank you❤❤❤
Exactly, nothing is wasted if we can learn from the experience.
Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to your Dad! I love your videos for whatever you are doing in the garden or greenhouse.💜🎂🎉🎆
Happy new year to the garden answer family
Good morning. Love the videos. Your hummingbirds migrate to Mexico in winter.
Interesting!
I've heard that, but I'm in Oregon and ours stay here all winter. Different family perhaps.
@@yesterdayseyes I live in western Washington and the Anna's hummingbirds stay all year long. I keep feeders up all year. You can help the Anna's now with building their nests by putting out hummingbird nesting material. The Rufous migrate to Mexico and return in March.
Western Washington is 2 zones warmer than Eastern WA.
You also need to realize it will be killing any mychorrizae(sp?) and other beneficial living organisms.
Laura Asheville is beautiful at Christmas but the way you love flowers spring time is amazing. I have been there both time.
Asheville might not be the best right now, though.
@@cynthiafisher9907, for sure 😔.
Laura, I think what you want may be an Orangery. Just check the definition and see if it fits. Another nice hour spent with Laura and Aaron. Thanks. 😊
Thank you for all you share. Happy 2025. Can't wait to see the adventures
Happy New Year Aaron & Laura
🎤🧔🏻♂️🎙️👩🏻💻☕️
Thanks for a great year of videos!
The humming birds come to Tucson, AZ.....I have hundreds of them hanging around. No fear either. They come inches away from my face when I'm filling up our fountains and feeders ❤
We enjoy them here in Mexico. Cute little things. So friendly.
Thanks for sharing many years of great videos- Looking forward to what happens in your garden in 2025!
Yes refrigerator repair people exist. They're amazing and can help you prolong the life of your household appliances.
My grandson looked up how to fix the refrigerator...took a few minutes...rereading. my old refrigerator is keeping everything cold.
We'ed be very interested in your meal planning menus. Coming up with ideas is 90% the challenge.
I see the wheels turning! The new green house/Dream Stream extension sounds wonderful!
I've had to put up a solid 6-foot fence on one side of my property because the visitors to the church next door kept coming up to my wire fence, wanting to "pet the doggies."
I have 2 Great Pyrenees, an Akita, and a Pitbull. Only the Pitbull, which is the smallest of the dogs, wants pets from strangers.
Laura I love your videos, I learn a lot from them. Longwood gardens is amazing, I live 4 hours away but visit at least once a year, every season is beautiful. You will love it!
I really enjoyed this video. You and Aaron do such a great job! May the Lord bless you in 2025!
Laura, your happiness is plants 🪴. You go girl., spend spend. You bring me joy, love your channel and learn so much. You know when is too much. ❤
Laura, you can use any pot for an African violet. Just set the plastic pot inside it. It has to be glazed terracotta to keep the moisture in but no one said you couldn’t glaze the inside of the pot instead of the outside. Hope this helps. Happy new year 🎆
That's what I do with mine (put the plastic pot inside a prettier pot) and it seem to work well.
