    hey man Those people complaining about the suppressors are the same lame ducks that call the police because of the noise... The only reason I don't have one is cause of the price... If you could make your own or buy one without the penalty price.... That would be good for the folks that don't want to hear it!!!! Always a great job, With detailed info.... thanks Johnny's Reloading Bench!

    Myself and 2 other friends use h335 in our ar's . We did ladder loads from 23 to 25 gr. with a 55 gr. fmj . All 3 guns shot inside an inch at 100 yds. All 3 liked 23 grns. As we increased the grns. the groups would open up .

    I'm sorry, but your rant at the beginning of the video is absolutely hysterical... I can relate to that rant for sure. Fortunately the new range I go to is filled with much more experienced shooters, but all the ranges in the more suburban areas where I live are filled with Tactical Toms.

    I don't worry about velocity only about group size. Yours would group better if you got yours set up like mine. Also I had 3 misfires with the Federal Match primers out of 1,000. In over 30 years I have never had a misfire with CCI BR. primers.

    I always shoot from a clean cold barrel when working up hunting loads. 20 minutes between groups isn’t unusual. When I switch powders I also give the barrel a good cleaning. This is as close to a hunting situation as I can get, unless you wait 20 minutes between shots, which most people don’t have the patience for. This is tedious but my group’s tend to shrink.

    My favorite hunting round is the Nosler solid base 64 grain. I load it hot over BLC-2 for highest velocity/accuracy. It hammers deer, they drop in there tracks. I agree about brass pickup I only pick it up if I ask first. Otherwise it’s super rude...

  • @452Rob
    @452Rob 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    At 11:53, first shot with 335 being off to the left...I have found very frequently that when switching from one powder to another, the first round will go wild...not always, but frequently enough that I fire a first shot off my test target. And maybe I'm jumping the gun before finishing the video and you may have mentioned that:)

    I'm a wannabe, but I'm 86 now and just don't have the energy to do all the planning and testing that you do so well. While I like to think I'm an accuracy aficionado, I aim to improve my scores with my M1A and Mini 14 rather then some more accurate hardware that I just don't like as much. The work you're doing and have done makes my planning much easier. Thank you.

    I LOVE the 65gr SGKs! My Proof barrel eats them up. I put them on 25.4gr H335 in lapua brass and get about 3k fps. I just picked up some starline brass, so I’ll need to rework it. I found between damaging the brass from hitting the ground/stepping on and just losing my 223 brass. Lapua isn’t a great choice for me. Starline for 1/4 the price hopefully works out.

    I have 2 powders w748 and w460 the 460 is a bulk powder said to be similar to tac but anyway their 556 powder the w748 wouldn’t cycle my ak! But I needed it too so 3 grains of pistol powder as a booster got it shooting perfectly. Duplex load!!! Don’t do it very dangerous! Ppl do it . I load a lot of 556 x39 x54 the x39 requires a faster powder my new w460 powder cycles the ak fine at 29 grains but it’s probably not perfect the w748 wouldn’t . U can definitely hear the difference when u add that booster. I’m just sharing my experience. The primers looked perfect. I didn’t velocity check the load. It’s be nice to have a universal powder ! But now a days your lucky to get any powder at all especially value priced. 556 is just much cheaper to shoot

  • @johnnybarbar7435
    @johnnybarbar7435 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bet if you back off incrementally with TAC, you will find a sweet spot that you can settle into the middle of so wide temperature swings don't blow out your precision. I use it with 75 grain Hornady bthp's on a LNL AP press and have been happy with it. My Foxtrot Mike 223 Wylde nitride 1:8 16" upper places them into 0.8" or less and that is plenty for coyotes.

    whoa man those are some hot loads. I shoot 24.5gr of TAC with the 65gr Gameking or a 64gr npowerpoint for about 2920 fps in a 18.5" barrel. I was peircing primers at those pressure levels, maybe if I switched to the AR primers I could go hotter but I think these non-bonded hold together better at more moderate velocities.

  • @jmartin9059
    @jmartin9059 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    With PSA I suggest that you try the Colt BCA and Colt H2 or H3 buffer. There is something different about Colt Buffers. Loose material specifically engineered by Colt reduces bolt bounce during action lock-up, somewhat like a dead-blow shot filled hammer. { Colt buffers sound somewhat like a baby rattle when shaken. }... You could re-crown the PSA muzzle. Since it is uncoated stainless steel you could you could shorten, re-thread, re-crown if deemed necessary or possibly beneficial. Also, copper fouling can give weird results. Sweets 7.62 or similar solvent does a good job of getting copper out and it can dissolve plastic grips, wood finishes or optic lenses. ??? Did you get any deer with the 65 grain 5.56 Sierra Game King load ???

  • @THutch556
    @THutch556 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great Vid, Keep the .223/5.56 content coming. I own several PSA uppers and I think you may be just at the limit of there freedom stainless line of Barrels, I think 1.5 to 2 inches is what you can expect out of that line. Their premium barrels by FN seem to shoot a little better for me.
    I've had great luck with Faxon Gunner Barrels as well as ballistic advantage Hanson profile barrels, both shooting sub MOA if I do my part and with the right match load. And neither are to expensive when compared to high-end match barrels.
    Looking forward to the .223 deer hunts, and thanks for the vid.

      ive got 2 with that same barrel on both and 60g siera varmiter over 26.8g varget will shoot under 3/4" outa both guns but neither of mine are freefloated thats the barrel they use on the dissipator's but the barrel is smaller in the receiver side of the block and bigger on the muzzle side .750 so they can mount fsb on the end and run a rifle lenth hand guard on a 16"gun if his gun wont shoot the load i mentioned under an inch it probably doesnt do well free floated is my guess

    Yeah, that Ramshot data for TAC 5.56 is screaming hot. Some of those max loads can make your brass almost one time use. I'm surprised the lawyers let them put that data out

    • @Nick-sx6jm
      @Nick-sx6jm ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lyman also has some hot data. They state 27.0 for H335 and 55gr bullets or 26.4 for 63gr. They list pressures and its right up at 60k psi. IMO if you have a 5.56 gun you might as well use the full potential of the cartridge. Like you said only downside is 1-2 reloads before primer pockets are cooked.

    I wonder if you stabilized the rifle a little better if your groups would tighten up. Just by holding the rail to reduce the jump. Please let us know. I have gotten sun MOA with PSA standard uppers.

    I'm also working up a hunting load for my AR (which is what brought me to your video), so I enjoyed the information you shared. But I was curious about one thing. Why do you shoot out of a warm to hot barrel? In a hunting situation your first shot will always be from a cold barrel. When I'm working up a load for my hunting rifles I always shoot from a cold barrel.....letting it cool between shots. It takes a lot more range time, but I think you will get better results. I also load Sierra Gamekings exclusively, 243 and 30-06, and they perform great on deer, hogs, and paper. Thanks again for the info.

    • @nicsu2128
      @nicsu2128 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Super old comment. You probably know more than I do at this point. But for others that may have the same question; I shoot out of a warm barrel to get the tightest groups possible. Giving every shot as close to the same parameters as possible. Once I’ve found my load, I will then find the cold bore 0 Vs warm barrel 0. When hunting I will account for that POI offset.

I'll bet you wont find much wrong with the PSA. Work on finding a load the PSA likes. It may not be the choice you use. Love your vids. Keep up the good work.

      I haven't tried the ELDs yet but the amax fragment at high velocities my 100yd target looks like it was shot by a 410. You might try an ELD or Ballistic Tip, I don't think I would use a HPBT although it might be fine. I really think the powder is the secret. Mine really loves the lite to medium loads of powder and lower speeds. Plenty fast to kill a Whitetail. Why not use your 6.5 .

    Johnny your best group was with the Colt and 26.3 Gr's of TAC, Sierra's Data is from a 20 inch 1:7 twist AR OAL is 2.260. With H335 MAX load is 25.6 Gr's for 2950 FPS , with TAC MAX load is 25.5 Gr's for 2950 FPS. Using Federal Brass and Remington 7 1/2 primers. Your TAC load is over Sierra's MAX load.. You had bad flyer with 25.4 Gr's of H335 that could have been bad trigger control on your part, maybe a unstable rest or your OAL of your rounds. You had your seating die set for 2.250 some of your rounds measured 2.250, 2.252, 2.249. All of this variation in OAL WILL effect the way your loads group.

    Hi there let first start by saying this is the 3rd video of yours I'm watching (mostly because of the length which I like you start and 7/8 of the way finish something others take 8 videos to complete) I am 14 and started reloading mainly for the hobby of doing so but Aldo for better accuracy I recently saved up and bought an AR-15 db-15 and started reloading this summer for another rifle can if its no trouble and if you don't already have make a video on 55 gr. sp. cannelure 223 rounds as this is what I reload I never have time to actually go outside and setup paper to record reliably what happens if you read this please don't allow it to be trouble thanks. wesjwa

      Thanks for watching! Sure, I can definitely do a video on the 55gr SP w/ cannelure. Do you have any specific powders you'd like me to test with?

    Once again a great video look forward to more videos as mentioned is this load for the does I am guessing and .300 blk for the big 8 if he shows himself on the right day. Just wondering would you be comfortable shooting the big 8 with the .223 If not how are you going to bring the .223 and risk the 8 point showing and not being comfortable taking the shot

    • @JohnnysReloadingBench
      @JohnnysReloadingBench  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the opportunity arises, I will definitely shoot the big 8 with .223! I think with the right shot placement it won't be an issue.

      Johnny's Reloading Bench ya true don't know if anyone would pass up on the 8 point if they were confident in the shot placement keep it up

    I have a new rifle: Mossberg MVP LR bolt gun in 5.56 NATO with a 1/7-twist 20-inch barrel. I plan on deer hunting with it this fall. I want to use HEAVY bullets in the 68-78 grain ball park. What powder do you recommend, assuming I can find it? TTA

    I may have missed it, but what is your barrel's rate of twist?

    • @fryetactical
      @fryetactical 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Colt LE6920 has a chrome lined, 16 inch, 1:7 twist barrel. The PSA SHOULD be a Stainless, 16 inch, 1:7 twist barrel. (not 100% sure on the PSA though)

    Are you actually shooting a 5.56 or is it a .223? Its my understanding that the 5.56 has a longer throat/free bore and in general faster twist rate. .223s are 1:10 and 1:9 etc. generally speaking. So what is the info for these rifles your shooting. Thanks
