  • Extremely satisfying encounter of Tiger sharks while scuba diving in Kailua Kona. In two days, two sightings of this incredible animals at Crescent Beach near Honokohau Harbor. While this is common summer resident in the area this time of the year (mid November) was a real treat to see them. Massive looking fish, slowly gliding between the divers gives you a little perspective.... It was very exciting underwater experience and one of my best so far. Hard to stay still while it's moving around you:) Diving trip with Kona Diving Company.
Recorded with GoPro Hero4 Black Edition. Edited in Sony Movie Studio 13.

Very nice. You all look like you got a lot closer than we did last year. 4 dives so far this week and no luck. Such beautiful sharks!

I was lucky. I guess. 2 times out of 3 trips we have seen Tiger sharks. Beautiful animals. Unbelievable experience. Thanks.

Great video. We saw one near there in December of 2016. We were shore diving from Crescent Beach although we did swim out past the boat moorings. I'm hoping to go back in the summer and see more. They are amazing critters.

Craig Hansen Oh yeah. This sighting completely blew my mind. I was not expecting to see Tiger sharks when planning scuba trip. Highlight of my stay.

Did you have a filter on your GoPro?

Yes. I always use red filter for underwater filming with GoPro.

Are you afraid they might attack you?

It's a good question. I always remember that we enter their world and those are wild animals. My experience tells me that sharks do not attack scuba divers unless they are provoked. So, I would say - respectful fear.

Extremely rare for a shark to attack a diver. (Better chance of getting struck by lightning.) Unless, as mentioned, you provoke them or you’re engaging in activity that gets them riled up... chumming the water or spear fishing. In fact, the most dangerous creature you’ll encounter while scuba diving is... a human being.
